Chapter 22 The next day, I introduced Anna and Brad to Nonna, Marta and Bruna. Even with the language barrier, we had a blast making the pasta. Anna asked if she could take some photos for her story and “The Nonnas” were playing the part, smiling, gesturing and posing for the camera. I helped Anna take some notes about the tradition behind the making of the orecchiette, while a small crowd of tourists watched on. Nonna sold three extra kilos of orecchiette and claimed that Anna was her “portafortuna” or lucky charm. We feasted on—you guessed it—a plate of orecchiette, this time with Nonna’s three-cheese sauce.
