A Stranger

960 Words
Melinda stood outside the closed door of her matrimonial room, her heart pounding in her chest as she listened to the unmistakable sounds of intimacy emanating from within. Tears welled up in her eyes, and a sense of profound sadness washed over her. She felt like a stranger in her "husband's house." After all, she and Dag were legally married. The thought of Dag being intimate with her best friend on their matrimonial bed made Melinda's heart sore. Now she was confronted with a painful reality: her husband, whom she loved and trusted, was sharing intimate moments with her friend. The moans and whispers behind the door felt like an assault on her soul, tearing apart the very fabric of her connection with Dag. She felt a mix of emotions – anger, betrayal, and heartache – all jumbled together in a tumultuous storm. As the sounds intensified, Melinda's emotions reached a boiling point. She wanted to rush in, confront them both, and demand answers. The urge to break open the door consumed her, but a part of her hesitated, fearful of the aftermath and the inevitable confrontation. She walked down to the sitting room, tears streaming down her cheeks. Dag had never brought a girlfriend into their house, let alone their matrimonial room. Now, it was clear that things were worse. "Hey, beautiful!" Melinda suddenly heard a male voice as she walked into the sitting room. She looked up to see who it was. Then she saw a tall young man already seated on one of the sofas in the sitting room, smiling broadly at her. It was one of Dag's closest friends, Brian. Brian was known for his womanizing ways, and she had heard Dag reprimand him on several occasions about his strange obsession with ladies. "Come over here, dear. What's the problem?" Brian asked when he observed Melinda sobbing. Melinda simply ignored him and moved on to the dining, but he followed her. "Mel Darling, I know you are upset about Dag's behaviour. I wonder how he could be so foolish to bring a lady into this house, let alone your matrimonial room! That guy is something else... You know I always told you to forget about him and give me a chance, but you never listen. Look, I'll make your life beautiful. You're a beautiful lady and you don't deserve to be treated like this," Brian said, coming closer to Melinda and fondling her cheeks with his fingers. "Please, leave me! I never said I need your sympathy... Let me be," Melinda spoke firmly, as she walked away from Brian to the nearest room, meant for guests. Brian was not in any way different from Dag, and she knew that Brian was only saying all that to get her attention. He had been pursuing her for a relationship for a while now, and she always turned him down, telling him that she was married. Even if she wasn't married, she didn't see Brian as an option. "Hey, Melinda, don't be childish!" Brian pushed open the door of the room and entered. "Melinda, I love you. Give me a chance, and you won't be disappointed," he said as he moved close to sit beside Melinda on the bed. "I said leave me alone, Brian! Get out of here!" Melinda yelled, her eyes burning with fury. "How dare you talk to me in such a manner?! Who do you think you are? Now, listen. You have no choice but to adhere to my wishes," Brian spoke harshly as he walked up to lock the door and close the windows. Then he moved close to Melinda and began to touch her. Meanwhile, Dag was now out of his room with Flora and was surprised not to see Brian sitting in the living room where he had left him. "Brian, where are you?" Dag called out. On hearing Dag's voice, Brian quickly adjusted himself, while Melinda tried to fix her attire. "Brian!" Dag called out again. Within a short time, Brian was out of the room. "Hey, Dag, you were calling me." "What were you doing in there?" Dag asked as he saw Brian walk out briskly. He knew he had left him in the sitting room before going upstairs to his room with Flora. "Well, I was trying to have some fun with Mel. She came to meet me while I was waiting for you and Flora. She told me that you had starved her of intimacy for a long time now, and she was feeling in the mood..." "What?!... I don't get you. You were trying to fill in the gap for me, or what exactly?" Dag asked in fury as he slapped Brian. "How dare you hit me?! What have I done wrong? Isn't she like trash to you? You told me you don't love her, so don't act like you have a wife. Forget it!" Brian responded as he walked out of the house. In the blink of an eye, Dag rushed into the room where Melinda was. "You... You had the guts to have s*x with Brian, right under my roof! How could you do such a thing?" Dag yelled, moving to confront Melinda. Flora was behind him, so she moved closer to Melinda. "So you were just waiting for an opportunity, huh? You were just waiting for a chance to cheat on him, you gold-digger," Flora said, lifting Melinda's chin and looking into her eyes. "How dare you touch me? How dare you?" Melinda tried to resist. "Keep quiet, fool!" Dag's voice interrupted Melinda. "You still have the guts to talk?! You'll stay in this house, but I'll make your whole life miserable. Since I can't divorce you, I'll make your life a living hell!"
