“HEY ROOKIE, GO PICK UP the evidence from forensics and bring it to the locker room,” Detective Hawthorne Wingo barked at Officer Toboggan. Detective Wingo and his partner, Clyde Monroe, had been assigned the gruesome murder case, which was soon to become a high-profile serial killer investigation. Wingo and Monroe were veterans of the DPD who had handled several murder investigations, but never a serial killer case. The two African Americans had been partners for a decade and had become best friends off the job as well.
