DETECTIVE WILLIAM ALLY took a deep breath, listening to the on-hold music, Don McLean’s “American Pie,” play in his ear. Ally had just been assigned a murder case – a headless woman had been found in the back of the parking lot at the Pueblo Zoo. Ally knew there had to be a connection with the serial killings taking place one hundred thirteen miles north in Denver. The slightly built detective had been on the force for seven years and had earned his detective badge one month prior. Newly married to a wife who was still getting used to her husband’s long hours, Ally’s stress level climbed.
