ALICE
So all this was because...
My feet couldn't move. My lungs stopped working, then they resumed proper functioning a few seconds later. I wish my brain recovered that fast. Like a dried-up plant, I staggered to the side and supported myself on the balcony rail. The men rushed forward, arms outstretched to help me. Like they could.
The news was not only devastating but a great shocker. I should have gone inside when I had the chance. Why didn't I go ahead with my plan to pace the sitting room and peep from the curtains after the men left?
Draco wasn't joking. I could see it in his eyes. And if a seer could tell him that a s****l encounter he was involved in birthed a child, then she possibly couldn't be wrong about...
DAISY.
The lines were slowly falling into place now. I had always questioned why Daisy was yet to show what specie she belonged to. If she was going to be a witch, she should have, by now, run to me in fear after accidentally lifting an object or emitting her magical essence. And I should have seen signs of little flaky scales if she was going to turn out a dragon (why didn't I think of this before now?!). Wolf and Vampire babies' usually had signs later on (around twelve or so. Sometimes, at the end of adolescence), but you could see little signs in their appearances and behavioral patterns.
She would never belong to a specie... because she was a prophetic! She would have to juggle understanding the powers of more than 7 species within her.
The news made me weak.
"Daisy..." Draco laid a hand on the barrier. "I can almost see everything going through your mind now. But be rest assured that everything will be okay. I have this planned out."
"Daisy is a prophetic?"I asked in disbelief, my eyes wandering to the floor, unblinking, as the cool night air helped my brain resume functioning. "And what all of you care about is whose sperm she was made from."
"Not the exact way I thought about it," Jasper murmured, knitting his brows like he pictured what I said and didn't find it pleasing. "We only intend to—"
"Know who is responsible among you three so Daisy can move in ASAP," I completed, my eyes still stuck to the ground, surprise now taking over the shock in me. Damn, I'd f****d stupid men. Or maybe they weren't stupid. Maybe I was the stupid one.
These men were formidable leaders of their respective people, their names and fame preceding them. And there was me, a nobody. I'd seen Jasper in an open debate with a distinguished elf construction officer on the reasons why reinforcing the clan's walls would be of more benefit. He supported the motion. And won.
That was way before I even knew he was the leader of the vampires, and way before that night...
Damon was so smart that the other packs away from the district were said to tread carefully around him since his traps never failed to catch prey.
Lord help me, Draco... Calm, very sweet, and always thinking. And smart.
But the moment they came around me, it was a different case. You'd think they were crazy s*x-starved idiots when they had dozens of women lying in wait...
So why? Thinking about it now, I couldn't think of a reason why they had even agreed to collectively please me that night.
If news got out that a prophetic was in Riverdell...
"I have to go now." I hurried to the door while they tried to call me back. "Leave!!"I yelled behind me and slammed the door. I slid down the door and pulled my hair.
Just when I thought everything was finally over. Just when I thought nothing could go wrong. Just when... Just when I was happy.
Prophetics were insane creatures sent after a collective decision by the gods and goddesses to Earth, one every ten thousand years, and filled with insane magical essence that they could copy the characteristics (in all aspects) of any specie, throughout their long-as-f**k lifetime. They could be vampires, bare their teeth and seek blood, turn into a full wolf, breathe out fire, control the use of nature like my specie, or even shift. Shifters could turn into any animal of their choice. A very difficult power to master.
Daisy would have all these, and even more, because there were lots of other species I couldn't remember. All she had to do was think it and it would be a reality. Such powerful life-force essence. Such burden.
The moment the news spread, Daisy would be in danger. Everyone would want her. All the species would fight to get her for themselves and train her to their advantage. It always happened. I wasn't alive during the last release of a prophetic, but it ended in a war. The poor boy had to run into hiding when his parents and siblings were murdered in a bid to get to him. Then got his power release and soon started life on his own. Everywhere he stepped, respect, love, war, and bloodshed followed.
He ended up an ally with the wolves and lived low until he was called to be in the afterlife.
Daisy was only six... Goddess, why would the supreme beings still send out prophetic kids despite everything that has happened?
I jumped off the floor and rushed into my room. None of those men probably cared about Daisy. Not Damon. Not Jasper. And not Draco who was only interested because he was told that a foursome from years ago produced a prophetic child that could be his. The reason that f*****g seer even saw anything about his s*x life in the first place was because of the type of jaw-breaking product that night created. And it was probably the conservative nature of the powers that kept the vision of her paternity hidden. I didn't know much about prophetic kids, but I knew that their powers were so crazy that they even protected them from magical control or attacks... Must have been the case when that seer tried to spiritually check if Daisy's distinctive unseen aura matched Draco's, a test that would have confirmed if he was the father or not.
Packing a bag wasn't hard. The hard part was leaving.
I had been staying in this part of Riverdell for over six years now, and I was already getting used to the house and its surroundings. Daisy, too. How do I even break the news to her? What excuse would I give?
This had been my hiding spot for so long. Not only was I attached to the house, but Daisy was already settling here. She loved the scenery and beautiful landscape. Late in the evening, she would sit on the front porch, hugging her stuffed chameleon, and smile as the sun set for the day. On many occasions, she even expressed her love for the serenity of the environment.
How could I take this away from her? What if she didn't like the new place? Hell, even if I moved to somewhere else here in Riverdell, the three kings would be on my doorstep before evening. Now that Draco had a seer, I would need to cast a covering spell over me and Daisy to keep us safe from spiritual view. I did not want witches and sorcerers following us through the subconscious.
A plan struck me. I ran for my phone.
After three rings, it connected.
"b***h, it's past midnight. What are you—"
"Chloe, I need help," I cut her off before she entered a long sermon about how I just cut her sleep short when she had a long list of things to do in the morning. "I need your help now."
