I took a step back, my words sharp like a blade. “You were never doing anything for me, Levi. You were doing it for yourself. You and Kelly, you planned it all. You killed me once, and now I’m back. I won’t make the same mistake again.”
Kelly, who had been standing silently to the side, suddenly stepped forward, her face contorted with fury. “You don’t know what you’re talking about, Ashley! You think you can just waltz back into our lives and undo everything?” She laughed bitterly, but there was something else in her eyes fear. A deep, crippling fear.
I crossed my arms, feeling the weight of my decisions settle on my shoulders. “You killed me, Kelly. And you’re going to pay for it.”
The air between us crackled with tension, like the calm before a storm. Kelly’s lips trembled in barely contained rage, and I could feel the storm building in her eyes. Levi was pacing now, his anger taking over.
“You think you can just take everything from me?” Levi spat, advancing on me. “This is my life, Ashley. I’ll ruin you.”
I didn’t flinch. “You’ve already ruined me once, Levi. But not again. This time, I’m the one in control.”
A smirk tugged at the corner of my lips as I walked away from the two of them, not bothering to glance back. “Consider this marriage canceled. Consider your life and your future destroyed.”
I heard Levi shout after me, but I didn’t stop. I didn’t need to. I was done with them.
Just as I was about to exit the mansion, the door swung open. My heart skipped a beat as I turned to face the imposing figure standing at the doorway. Caden Frost.
He was everything I wasn’t expecting dark, dangerous, powerful. A man who exuded control with every step, every inch of his towering presence. His eyes locked onto mine, and I felt an electric charge run through me. His gaze was piercing, like he could see straight through me. There was no warmth in his eyes, no softness. But there was something else. Something I couldn’t quite name.
“I think we need to have a conversation, Ashley,” Caden said, his voice deep, gravelly, and commanding. “You belong to me now.”
And just like that, my entire world shifted.
