The body lay sprawled on the bedroom floor, blood pooling beneath the masked assassin. My heart still thundered in my chest, my grip tightening around the shattered remains of the lamp I had used to fight back.

“They found us,” I whispered.
His jaw clenched. “They won’t leave here alive.”
