Dating

Raven. It was supposed to be an act. The kiss wasn't supposed to happen, and yet, it had, and so were many other things. He hadn't just declared me as his girlfriend in front of the whole school, he had also defended me against Julian, and now, I was dangling on his back, as he carried me to where he only knew. Curious eyes followed us, and when I walked past Julian, I happened to catch a glimpse of his pale face.. He looked like he had just seen a ghost..It was ironic, wasn't it? He had already betrayed me and confessed to being in love with someone else. I had even chanced on them literally sucking the living breath out of each other. So, clearly, he didn't love me. And yet, he couldn't stand the thought of me loving someone else. Some privileged Roth heir he was! " Put me down!" Too lost, berating my ex in my head, I was only snapped out of the haze by the sight of the huge gates. It turned out, Chase had carried me from the sports arena all the way to the gates. " No one is watching, put me down!" Out of the public scrutiny, I dared to be myself as I wiggled out of Chase's strong arms. Luckily, he didn't hesitate before putting me down, and now that I was standing on my feet, looking at him, I didn't know how to face him, especially when I recalled how boldly I had latched onto him earlier, and how I had shamelessly kissed his back. Some real nerve I had there. And in a very crucial juncture, the earlier courage betrayed me, just like Julian. Just damn perfect! Now, I didn't know how to broach a topic, especially when he was looking at me so intensely. Was I supposed to thank him for saving me from that embarrassing moment? Was I supposed to blame him for playing along and taking it a little too far? Think, Raven! I muttered under my breath as I bit on my bottom lip, hoping for the pain to restore clarity. I had always been smart, I never knew that a day would come when I couldn't come up with a solution to such a simple situation. " I...I." I started, digging my nails into my palms for composure. " Captain Chase, I apologize for taking advantage of you earlier." I whispered, as I nervously tucked a strand of a stray hair behind my ear. " And, I also want to thank you for helping me.." I added, steering my gaze away from his face. Damn it! That was the most awkward moment I had ever been in. "Now if you don't mind, I will be on my way..." I added, and I didn't even wait for his response before I started walking away, my movements fueled by fear and desperation. I couldn't wait to create some distance between us and I wanted to disappear, as quickly as possible. As much as that little act had been flattering, I couldn't allow it to get into my mind, and especially so, when I remembered Julian's earlier words.. I didn't belong to their old money and fantasy worlds. And, it was better if I didn't try to tangle myself with them. But just before I could take another step away, my wrist was gripped, so tightly that I froze mid-step. " You have just taken advantage of me, and now, you want to disappear?"Amusement glazed over Chase's eyes as he asked, and to that, my heart sank. " You kissed me, professed your love for me, and now, you think a mere apology can change that?" He whispered to my ear, and goosebumps painted my skin when his warm voice fanned me. Damn it! What had I gotten myself into? " Okay.." I dragged, cupped his face and locked his lips into mine. For the next few seconds, I kissed him, following his earlier lead. " There." My voice shook as I whispered. I had just broken the kiss. I was the one in control, and yet, from how flustered I was, that didn't seem to be the case. " A simple apology wouldn't do.But a kiss would, right?" I asked, forcing a smile to feign composure. He had helped me. And since an empty thank you wouldn't do, I had just kissed him, again, to express my gratitude. I honestly hoped that that would suffice.I couldn't thank him with money, right? He wasn't short of such. After the brief kiss, a deep chuckle rambled in his chest, and genuine curiosity flickered in his eyes as he stared at me. It was like he had just encountered a very funny character for the first time in his life. And I, on the other hand, couldn't seem to grasp the joke. If anything, I was just stunned. The ice captain had laughed, and I didn't know what to feel. And yet, from the look in his eyes, I could tell. I was in deep sh*t. "That's not how it works, Raven.." He whispered, lifting my chin with two fingers. " When someone does you a huge favor, the reward has to triple the initial effort.." He explained, so patiently you would think he was another person, and not the infamous brooding and Icy Chase. " Your gratitude should directly translate how sincere you are after all, Dear Raven." He added, with the same tone, and yet, there was a familiar way that he called my name, as if, it was something he had spent his entire life doing. And more shocking was the fact that Chase actually knew my name.. Like I said before, I wasn't popular.. I was just a scholarship student, nerdy and always buried in my books. Even when I was Julian's girlfriend, I wasn't famous, either. Our relationship was known, but only to a few. To discover that the Captain actually knew my name, I wasn't flattered, I was alarmed. " What do you want?" After listening to his words, there was no need to beat around the bush with him. I wasn't stupid. I knew how the rich operated. Capitalist in blood and names. " Good. As my reward, I want you to be my girlfriend." He stated, without even missing a heartbeat. If it weren't for how serious he looked, I would have assumed he was joking. " You mean, fake dating?" I asked, my voice trembling for reasons I couldn't name. " No," His gaze held mine . "Real Dating,"
