One winter night, Between the Logs got drunk and came home to find his wife missing. He went searching for her and found her on the road headed for home. He, certain she had been with another man, took a tree limb and beat her until she died. She had not been with another man though. She had been with Sally helping bring a baby into the world. This would have been expected of her as the wife of the future chief. By Wyandot Law, the brave should have been put to death, but he showed such great remorse, that the council agreed to let him live. It was then that he received Christianity. He promised to spend the rest of his life making up for his terrible deed, even though he knew he would now never be Chief.
