Chapter 13The Green Corn Feast That fall Charles received a letter from Sally, written by someone named William Walker, inviting him to come the reserve on August 15 for what she called the Green Corn Feast. As soon as Charles arrived, he located Mr. Hicks. Inquiring about the person that had written the letter, he was told that it was William Walker, Jr., a very influential man. Hicks went on to tell him that Walker was probably the smartest man in the territory, that his father, the first William Walker, had been captured by the Indians back in Virginia. The son had been born around 1800 in Michigan and went to a fancy college back there.
