Chapter 8:
Cat and Mouse
I couldn't sleep.
Every time I closed my eyes, I saw her. Raven. Her golden eyes burned with anger as she pushed me away. Her voice was cold as ice: "I can't be your mate and I won't be your mate."
*You killed her, remember.*
The words echoed in my head. Over and over. A reminder of the worst thing I'd ever done.
I'd executed my mate.
My wolf howled inside me, pacing restlessly. He didn't understand why I'd let Raven walk away. Why I hadn't chased her. Claimed her. Made her understand that she belonged with us.
But my wolf was wrong. She'd rejected us. And maybe we deserved it.
I sat in my private study, surrounded by papers. The same papers I'd looked at a hundred times before. Evidence against Celeste. Proof of her betrayal.
Except... was it proof?
