Adriana opened her eyes slowly, letting the silence of the house greet her. After a few moments of sitting on the bed and taking a deep breath, she got up, fixed her hair with her fingers, then stepped out of the room. Her footsteps sounded light but hesitant as she walked down the corridor of the house that felt quiet. There was no sound, no aroma of cooking that usually filled the morning.
