Chapter 2

1139 Words
The forest was thick with the scent of pine and the buzz of late summer insects, but the peace was about to be shattered. Adriana, small and slender, her omega nature making her vulnerable, was cornered by two of Ryan's mates, Tom and Jamie, both grinning like they'd won some dark prize. "Come on, love, don't make this harder than it has to be," Tom said, his voice dripping with false charm. He was tall, broad-shouldered, with eyes that seemed to enjoy her discomfort a bit too much. Adriana's heart was beating like a drum in her chest, her breaths short and sharp. "Let me go, Tom. You don't want to do this." "Oh, but we do," Jamie chimed in, his laughter echoing through the trees. He was leaner than Tom, but no less imposing. "Kesha's orders, you know. Ryan might be the leader, but Kesha's the one pulling the strings." Adriana knew that all too well. Ryan, once her protector, had fallen under Kesha's spell, his decisions now swayed by whispers in the dark. She tried to push past them, but Tom grabbed her arm, his grip like iron. "You think you can just walk away from this?" Tom's voice was now a snarl, his patience wearing thin. Her eyes darted around, looking for an escape, but the forest seemed to close in. "I'm not your plaything, Tom. Let me go!" The desperation in her voice did nothing to soften Jamie's smirk. "You're going to learn your place, omega or not." With a sudden burst of adrenaline, Adriana kicked out, catching Tom off-guard. He stumbled back, cursing, but Jamie was quicker, pinning her arms behind her. "You think you're tough, huh?" Jamie taunted, his breath hot against her ear. "You're just a weak little omega." The struggle was fierce, Adriana's body twisting and turning, trying to break free. Her resistance only fueled their frustration. Tom, recovering, lunged forward, his hands rough as he tried to control her flailing limbs. "Enough!" Tom bellowed, his patience snapped. "You're going to—" But Adriana wasn't listening; she was fighting for her life now. She managed to knee Jamie where it hurt, making him loosen his grip just enough for her to slip away. But her freedom was short-lived. Tom, his face contorted with rage, grabbed her again, this time with a ferocity that left no room for escape. The ground was cold and hard beneath her as he forced her down, his weight pinning her. She screamed, her voice piercing the quiet of the forest, but the only response was the distant hoot of an owl, uncaring in the night. "Stop fighting," Tom growled, his hand covering her mouth to muffle her cries. "You're making this worse for yourself." Jamie watched, his expression a mix of horror and thrill, as if he was detached from the reality of what was happening. "We're just doing what we were told," he muttered, more to convince himself than anyone else. Adriana's body trembled, not just from fear but from the cold that seeped into her bones. Her mind raced, looking for any way out, but Tom's strength was overwhelming. She bit down hard on his hand, tasting blood, hoping the pain would make him let go, but it only made him angrier. "You little—" Tom's words were lost as he struck her, the force sending a shock of pain through her skull. Her vision blurred, and for a moment, the world spun. Jamie moved closer, his voice now a whisper, "This isn't right, Tom. She's just—" "Shut up!" Tom snapped, his eyes wild. "We're too far in now." Adriana's clothes were torn as she continued her futile struggle, her nails scratching at Tom's skin, her legs kicking out in any direction they could. But with every move, Tom's grip tightened, his actions becoming more aggressive. "Please," she managed to gasp when Tom momentarily loosened his grip on her mouth. "Please, don't do this." But her pleas fell on deaf ears as Tom's control slipped further into brutality. The forest was silent except for their heavy breaths and her muffled cries. Jamie stood there, his earlier bravado fading into a reluctant participation, his hands occasionally moving to hold her down when she tried to escape. The attack was relentless, each moment stretching into an eternity of terror and pain for Adriana. She felt every harsh touch, every cruel intention, her spirit breaking with the realization of her helplessness. As Tom's actions escalated, Jamie finally turned away, unable to watch further, his conscience pricking at him. But he did nothing to stop it; the fear of Kesha's wrath was too potent. Finally, exhausted and broken, Adriana's resistance weakened. Her eyes, once bright with life, now held only despair. Tom, panting and disheveled, stood up, looking down at her with a mix of disgust and satisfaction. "This will teach you," he said, his voice devoid of any remorse. Jamie, his face pale, muttered, "Kesha won't like this. She wanted her humiliated, not... not this." They looked at each other, the weight of what they'd done settling like a stone in their guts. With grim determination, they decided to cover their tracks. They gathered wood, their hands shaking, and built a pyre. As the fire consumed Adriana's body, the smoke rose like a dark omen above the trees. Once the flames died down to mere embers, they collected the ashes, their silence speaking volumes of their guilt. "Let's get rid of this," Jamie said, his voice a whisper, as they walked to the edge of the forest where a deep ravine cut through the earth. They scattered the ashes into the void below, watching them disappear into the darkness. Back at the pack's meeting place, Kesha was waiting, her smile cold. "So, it's done?" she asked, her eyes gleaming with something dark. Tom nodded, his voice hollow. "It's done." Ryan, standing beside Kesha, looked uneasy. "She was just an omega, but... was this necessary?" Kesha's laughter was a sharp, cutting sound. "Necessary? No. But effective? Absolutely. Now everyone knows the price of defying us." The night air was thick with the scent of betrayal and the lingering smoke of the pyre. Ryan turned away, his stomach churning, questioning his loyalty for the first time. As the group dispersed, the forest whispered secrets of its own, the wind carrying tales of vengeance and sorrow. Somewhere in the shadows, the echo of a scream or perhaps the howl of a wolf, promised that this was not the end, but merely the beginning of a much darker chapter. As Ryan walked alone through the woods, his steps heavy with guilt, a pair of glowing eyes watched him from the darkness. Something, or someone, was coming back, changed by the flames, by the betrayal, by the night.
