Zara’s POV
I knew I was going too far.
But I didn’t stop.
After what I saw in the system—my brother’s name was marked as removed—there was no way I could go back to normal work. Every file, every system, every hidden layer inside this company now meant something.
It meant answers.
Or danger.
Maybe both.
I sat at my desk, pretending to work, but my eyes kept moving to one thing—the restricted door across the hall.
LEVEL 5 ACCESS.
That same door I saw on my first day.
The same level connected to Project Eclipse.
My heart beat faster just looking at it.
Daniel was connected to that project.
Which meant whatever truth I was looking for… it was behind that door.
I slowly stood up.
No plan.
Just instinct.
I picked up a file from my desk to make it look like I had a reason to move. Then I walked.
Calm steps.
Normal breathing.
Don’t attract attention.
The hallway felt longer than usual.
Every camera felt like it was watching me more closely than before.
When I reached the door, I stopped.
Just for a second.
Then I tried the handle.
Locked.
Of course.
I looked around quickly.
No one was close.
My eyes dropped to the access panel.
Fingerprint required.
Level 5 only.
I exhaled slowly.
“I need another way,” I whispered under my breath.
Then I turned to leave—
“Looking for something?”
My body went still.
That voice.
I didn’t need to turn to know who it was.
But I did anyway.
Slowly.
Ethan Cole stood a few steps behind me.
Calm. Still. Watching.
Like he had been there longer than I realized.
“I… got the wrong hallway,” I said quickly.
Too quickly.
His eyes didn’t change.
He stepped closer.
Not fast.
Not slow.
Controlled.
“No, you didn’t,” he said quietly.
My chest tightened.
He knew.
Not everything.
But enough.
“I was just—” I started.
“Curious?” he cut in.
Silence.
I didn’t answer.
Because it was true.
And dangerous.
He stopped right in front of me now.
Too close.
Close enough for me to feel the pressure of his presence.
“This area is restricted,” he said.
“I know,” I replied.
“Then why are you here?”
His voice wasn’t angry.
That made it worse.
I swallowed.
“I like to understand where I work.”
Another pause.
His eyes stayed on mine like he was trying to see past my words.
“And what have you understood so far?” he asked.
I hesitated.
Then said carefully, “That this company hides a lot.”
Silence.
A long one.
For a moment, I thought I had said too much.
But then—
Ethan turned slightly and placed his hand on the access panel.
The system scanned his fingerprint.
ACCESS GRANTED
The door unlocked.
I froze.
He looked back at me.
“Then maybe you should see more,” he said.
My heart skipped.
Was this a trap?
Or an invitation?
I couldn’t tell.
But I stepped forward anyway.
Ethan’s POV
She was standing at the door.
Level 5.
The one place she should never reach.
And yet… there she was.
I watched her before she noticed me.
The way she looked at the door.
Not confused.
Not lost.
Focused.
That confirmed everything.
Zara Williams wasn’t just curious.
She was searching.
And now she was getting closer to something dangerous.
I could have stopped her immediately.
Security.
Restriction.
Removal.
Simple.
But I didn’t.
Because I needed to know how far she would go.
And why.
When I spoke, she froze.
That reaction told me something else.
She wasn’t fearless.
She was careful.
There’s a difference.
She turned and faced me, and for a moment, I studied her expression.
No panic.
Just tension.
Controlled tension.
Good.
That meant she was still thinking.
When she said she “got the wrong hallway,” I almost corrected her immediately.
But I didn’t.
Instead, I let her speak.
Let her try to explain.
People reveal more when they think they still have control.
But when she said, “This company hides a lot,”
I stopped thinking of her as just a suspicious employee.
That sentence wasn’t random.
That was awareness.
She knew.
Not everything.
But enough to be a problem.
Or…
Something else.
I stepped closer.
Close enough to see her reaction.
She didn’t step back.
Interesting.
Fear would have made her move.
But she stayed.
That meant she wanted something more than safety.
Answers.
I understood that feeling too well.
For a moment, I considered sending her away.
Locking the door.
Ending this early.
But something stopped me.
Curiosity.
And something deeper I didn’t want to name yet.
So I made a decision.
I opened the door.
Not because I trusted her.
But because I wanted to see what she would do when the truth was no longer hidden.
I looked at her.
“Then maybe you should see more.”
Her reaction was immediate.
Surprise.
Suspicion.
But also—
Determination.
She stepped inside.
That was all the answer I needed.
Zara’s POV
The room inside was darker than I expected.
Not empty.
But controlled.
Rows of secured terminals lined the walls. Screens showed encrypted data, system maps, and files I couldn’t read from a distance.
This wasn’t a normal archive.
This was something else.
Something deeper.
I walked slowly.
Carefully.
Every step felt important.
Then I saw it.
A central screen.
Larger than the others.
And on it—
One word.
ECLIPSE
My breath caught.
This was it.
The place Daniel had been connected to.
The place that erased him.
I stepped closer.
My hands felt cold.
I reached toward the screen—
“Don’t.”
Ethan’s voice stopped me.
I froze.
“Not everything here is safe to touch,” he said.
I turned to look at him.
“Was it safe for my brother?” I asked quietly.
The words slipped out before I could stop them.
Silence.
Heavy.
Dangerous.
His expression didn’t change.
But something in his eyes did.
A shift.
Small.
But real.
“Careful, Zara,” he said softly.
My heart skipped.
He said my name differently this time.
Not like a CEO.
Like someone who knew more than he should.
“You don’t know what you’re asking,” he added.
I held his gaze.
“Then tell me.”
Silence again.
Longer this time.
Then he said something that made everything inside me go still.
“You’re already deeper than you think.”
