Chapter 13. Claire

616 Words
I walked with Carter to the town hall and kissed him goodbye. I walked on to the clinic. I greeted the ladies at the front desk and headed to my office. I got caught up on all my paperwork. Then I began to make rounds helping anyone I could. I was determined to stay busy to keep my mind off of Rosie, it didn’t help much. After a particularly difficult case, a young child sick with a horrible case of RSV, I text Tara. Pls send me a pic of my bby I could rlly use some of her cuteness Y wht happened? A rlly sick bby 1 sec Just a moment later my phone pinged Tara had sent me a picture of Rosie curled up sleeping in a bassinet. The rest of my shift at the clinic passes rather uneventfully. I finish my remaining paperwork before leaving for lunch. I meet Carter outside town hall and we head to lunch. We walk into Doreen’s. John waved us over. “Hey what’s up,” Carter asked. “Tara’s got baby fever,” John said. “That crazy woman just told me she wants to adopt ten kids.” “What does she want a sports team,” Carter asked with a chuckle. “I don’t know man,” John said, shaking his head. We order our food and the boys chat jovially. I, however, can't help but think about Tara and how she so badly wants children and decided to make a prayer for her when I got to the temple. We ate our lunch and said goodbye to John. Carter gave me a kiss and headed back to town hall. I headed to the temple. I cleaned the temple and put out new candles. Then I knelt at the altar and began to pray to Selene. In moments I was in the place we meet every time I pray. “Hello, my dear child.” “Hello Goddess.” “Does something trouble you?” “Yes my friend Tara, she wants children. I would love to help her.” “You care so deeply for your friends, but don’t fret. A plan is already in motion.’ “Thank you Goddess.” “No need to thank me. On a different note I must warn you a fight is coming your way and you must be the strongest you’ve ever been.” “What do you mean,” I asked her worriedly. “You’ll soon find out, now go.” With that the connection broke. The pack link was screaming at top volume. I could only make out bits and pieces and they all seemed out of order. “Weapons,” one shouted. “Witch,” shouted another. “A strange man,” one jumbled . “Silver dagger!” “Loaded to the teeth!” “Alpha!” “Luna!” “Help” “Danger.” Those were just the ones I could make out. I ran out towards the town hall. Suddenly among the chaos a calming commanding presence takes charge. It could be no other than Carter. “Tara, Becca, Nadia, and Emily take the children and hide. Eric and Jamison guard them. Everyone else take cover.” I finally made it to the gathering hoard near the town hall. I pushed my way to the front. “Who are you,” I hear Carter call out as I reach my place by his side. “My name is Roland,” the man answers. I look at him for the first time and my blood runs cold. He’s older, dirtier, but I would recognize those cold, dead, rage filled eyes anywhere.
