Chapter 3

Emma spent restless night in the hospital with fear and uncertainty,As the first ray of sunlight filtered through the window,she resolved to stay strong for Lily sake. She has to be strong for Lily sake,she has to juggle her new project,her daughter's health and the threats hanging over her.



Emma looked at her baby,she was sleeping so peacefully when she felt a presence in the room.



Good morning, Ms. Donovan; Dr Mitchell greeted with a clipboard in his hand.



Morning, Dr. Mitchell;Emma replied.



I have more observations on Lily's health issue,she needs to be kept for a few more days in case of any unfolding illness and also don't forget she needs some counseling."



Emma nodded. Thank you, Doctor. I'll make sure she gets all the help she needs."



Emma drove out to a nearby restaurant to get Lily some food,so when she wakes up she won't get hungry. She got back to the hospital gave the food to one of the nurses in charge of taking care of Lily,she also gave the nurse some money so as to watch over Lily intensively since she would be so busy during the day.



"Thank you very much ma".I'll watch over her very well. The nurse appreciate gratefully.



Emma thanked her and drove back home to get ready to go to Blackwood Enterprises. As she couldn't afford to miss another day and risk the contract. She still needed to make good impression on Ethan Blackwood and secure her future.

As she approached Ethan's office,she took a deep breath,straightened her posture,and knocked the door.



"Come in,"Ethan deep voice called out.



Ethan entered carrying her design portfolio. Ethan was behind the desk,his eyes so focused on her. "Ms. Donovan,how is your daughter?".



"She is stable thanks for asking. It was a scare,but she's getting the care she needs,"Emma replied, grateful for his concern.



Ethan nodded. "I'm glad to hear that. Now, let's discuss your design ideas. We have a tight deadline,and I want to ensure everything is on track."



Emma launched into her presentation,her voice steady and confident. She detailed every aspect of the redesign,from the colour scheme to the furniture arrangements. Ethan listened intently, occasionally nodding in approval. 



"Your ideas in redesigning my office is quite unique and impressive, I'm so convinced, Emma," Ethan said ,leaning back in his chair. "I believe you're the right person for this job. But I need to be upfront with you. I've heard rumors that someone is trying to sabotage your work here. Do you have any idea who that might be?"



Emma's heart skipped a bit. Could if be Mark?or someone he hired?she decided to be honest. "I have been receiving threats. My Ex husband is trying to gain full custody of our daughter,and I suspect her might be behind this."



Ethan's expression darkened. That's unacceptable. I assure you, we will take every measure to protect you and your daughter.



Your work here is very crucial,but so is your safety. I'll have our security team look into this matter immediately.



Relief washed over Emma. "Thank you, Mr Blackwood. I appreciate your support."



As she left Ethan's office,her phone buzzed again. Another unknown number. She hesitated but answered,her heart pounding.



"Ms.Donovan,this is detective Harris from the NYPD police department. We have traced the threats you've been receiving. It appears your Ex husband is indeed behind them,but he's working with someone else,someone more dangerous."



Emma's blood ran cold. Who?



"We are still investigating,but you need to be cautious. I'll arrange for police protection until we get to the bottom of this."



"Thank you, Detective," Emma said,her voice trembling.

Over the next few days,Emma balanced her time between the hospital and the office. She worked tirelessly on the redesign project, often staying up into the night to ensure everything was perfect. At the same time,she spent as much time as possible with Lily,reading her stories and reassuring her that that everything would be okay. 



Ethan checked in on her progress regularly,offering his his support and ensuring she had everything she needed. He seemed genuinely concerned for her well-being, and his presence became a source of comfort.



One evening,as Emma was finalizing some designs elements in her temporary workspace at Blackwood Enterprises, Ethan knocked on the door.



"Emma,I wanted to let you know that we have increased the security around the office and your home. You shouldn't have to worry about these threats while you're working on this project."



Thank you, Ethan," Emma said,feeling a surge of gratitude." I don't know what I would do without your support."



"We are team now ,Emma. We'll get through this together." Ethan said,giving her a reassuring smile.



Just as Emma thought things couldn't get more intense, Detective Harris dropped a bombshell:



You mastermind behind Mark's scheme was a former Blackwood Enterprises employee, hell-bent on revenge against Ethan.



One fateful night, Emma's instincts were on high alert as she spotted a suspicious figure lurking near her car.



Racing back to the office, she frantically called Ethan and the police.



Ethan burst in first, his face a mask of determination. "Stay safe inside, Emma. I've got this."



Moments later, the police arrived, catching the culprit and finding key evidence.



As Emma watched from the window, her heart still racing, Ethan returned with a reassuring smile.



"It's over. You're safe now."



Then Ethan drove her back to the hospital to meet Lily. “Thank you very much for Ethan” Emma said feeling exhausted.



“Do make sure you have some rest Ms. Donovan”

Ethan replied giving her a reassuring smile then he drove off.



Lily got back to the hospital too tired to do anything she checked up on Lily, She was sleeping peacefully,she pecked her forehead and then drifted into a deep sleep for there's going to be a long day tomorrow.
