The beta winked at her, a smirk playing across his face. Lena squeezed his hand, her core heating up at the thought of the things they could do in his office. Two flights of stairs later, they reached four doors that branched off a short, dimly lit hallway. Dominic led her to the very last door on the right and held it open for his beloved, memorizing the subtle swish of her hips as she walked.
Lena looked around at the room. It mirrored the contemporary look of the rest of the house, composed mostly of black Italian leather furniture and brushed bronze accents. The walls were covered with charcoal grasscloth wallpaper, giving a moody feel to the room. Lena noticed a closed door in the corner and pointed to it.
“My bedroom. And bathroom,” Dom answered, settling into an oversized chair. She nodded and walked to the large desk in the middle of the room, noting an open first aid kit on it. Hmm. That seemed strategically placed, and she almost rolled her eyes.
“How are your injuries?” She turned to him, raising an eyebrow. The doctor knew he likely only had scars left by now, but she feigned ignorance anyway. Maybe he would let her check them, giving her an excuse to be close to him and touch him. He shrugged.
“I think they're fine, but maybe you should take a look," he replied. It worked. In one swift motion, Lena crossed the room and placed her fingers at the collar of his shirt. She looked to him for permission, and once he nodded, she worked to undo every button on his shirt. Dominic's eyes darkened as she grazed his hot skin with her fingertips, leaving behind a trail of fire.
“How do you know where my cuts are?” He asked, his voice husky. Dominic didn't care if or how she knew. This time, Lena winked at him.
“Just a hunch,” She said, undoing the last button she could reach. The rest of his shirt was tucked into his slacks, and her gaze traveled down to the zipper of the slacks. She bit her lip, thinking about her mate without clothing, and stepped back so he could finish taking off his shirt. When he stood, he was so close to her that her nose almost touched his bare chest. A small gasp escaped her lips as she took in the view. His body was a work of art. A perfectly sculpted chest, chiseled shoulders and biceps, and beautiful ab muscles. She pressed her thighs together, becoming intoxicated yet again by his scent. The aura of power he exuded, though he wasn't the alpha, could entice the most prude females. Lena couldn't help but be turned on by it.
She spotted the scar on his bre*st.
"Here?" she asked. Dominic nodded. Yes, it was almost healed, just a pink hue from the new tissue. He watched her closely as she studied it, noticing her long eyelashes and the shape of her nose. Moving down his torso, she found the next scar just above his bellybutton. She touched it, and the moment she did, Dominic growled and pulled her against him roughly. He couldn't hold himself back anymore. She was such a tease, and he loved it. He kissed her ferociously, biting her lower lip and placing a hand at the back of her neck. He gently tugged her hair, gaining access to her neck, where he planted long, sensual kisses. Lena moaned, closing her eyes as he traced his tongue down the side of her neck. It was almost too much. Almost. Every electrifying jolt of pleasure was exhilarating. Her wolf wanted him to mark her right then and there.
Dominic broke away from Lena to take a breath. She gently pushed on his chest, guiding him back into the leather chair behind them and climbed on top of him, straddling his legs between hers. She took a moment to pause, admiring his features. Rays of sun peeked in through the window and landed on Dominic's body. Lena thought he couldn't get any more attractive than now. She resumed kissing his lips and neck, one hand tangled in his hair and the other grasping his bicep.
“Oh, goddess,” He groaned, squeezing her hips as she kissed his neck. He could feel the warmth between her legs. He wanted to take her right now. Throw her onto his bed, rip her clothes off and mark her. Mingan howled in agreement. He slipped a hand under her blouse, cupping and massaging a soft br*ast. He pushed her bra up, exposing an erect n*pple, which he teased gently with his fingers. Lena moaned, and the beta took the opportunity to kiss her parted lips again. Lena squealed as he squeezed her a*s, delighting in the rough sensation.
“I want all of you,” Dominic whispered into her neck. He pulled back to look into her eyes. “I want to make you mine. Forever.” Gold flashed in his eyes as he growled the last word, his wolf almost in control. Lena shivered with pleasure.
“I want that too,” she said, and Dominic was already standing, holding her bottom to lift her so she could wrap her legs around his waist. Just as he started walking toward the bedroom, a curt knock at the office door sounded, halting Dom in his tracks. His eyes darkened, the look on his face shifting to annoyance.
“What,” he barked, not bothering with formalities. He was a little busy at the moment. It was a gamma with enough sense to stay behind the door.
“Sir, I'm sorry to interrupt,” He started, urgency in his voice. “Something very important has come up, and you need to see it.”
He set her down gently, kissed her one more time, and buttoned his shirt.
“I will be right back. Stay right here,” he said. Lena nodded, smoothing her shirt and watching him leave. The room was eerily silent, not even the sound of wind penetrating the walls. Unsure what to do, Lena leaned against the desk, looking around at Dominic's office. She glanced toward his bedroom, contemplating whether to snoop around or stay put.
Lena shook her head and noticed a bookshelf. It lined one wall, filled with books of various sizes. She walked over to it, reading various titles, when a rectangular navy blue velvet jewelry box caught her attention. It was just sitting there on the shelf in front of the books, next to a small framed picture. She stared at the box, then at the picture. It was so small that she could only see the outline of a group of people. Lena's pulse quickened, fighting the urge to investigate. She already felt awkward, being left in here alone after such a passionate moment. Now, curiosity gnawed at the doctor's conscience. It was none of her business. She shouldn't even be in Dominic's office right now. They were nowhere near the level of familiarity for her to be here by herself. This was inappropriate and disrespectful.
Resolved, Lena walked swiftly to the entrance of the office and touched her hand to the door. She turned the knob but stopped, squeezing her eyes shut. Surely, if he didn't want the picture to be seen, he wouldn't have put it on display. What harm could come from looking at the picture?
“D*mmit,” She muttered under her breath. She slowly let go of the door knob and walked back to the jewelry box, tenderly picking up the frame in her hands. Four people in the picture. Lena squinted, noticing balloons in the background and seeing Dominic on the left side. He was standing next to an older gentleman, then a woman of the same age in a wheelchair. Next to her stood a young girl who looked similar to Dominic. They were all smiling. The woman in the wheelchair was wearing a beautiful satin purple dress, though it hung from her thin body. Her hair was brushed down around her sunken face. Lena guessed that it was a family photo, and the couple were Dominic's parents. It appeared they were celebrating something, maybe a birthday or anniversary.
She carefully placed the photo just as she found it on the bookshelf. Whoever they were, the beta cared for them deeply. The woman in the dress, presumably his mother, was obviously ill. Lena wondered if she had passed away and if the jewelry box was a precious item of hers. The gravity of the small memorial snuffed her curiosity quickly, and she abandoned the idea of seeing what was inside the box. She spent the remainder of her time alone studying random books.
