Rosa felt powerless at her words. She could not speak words did not come from her mouth. Emma was looking at her with those blank eyes. She was raising her head up to talk and pulling on Rosa’s hand trying to pull her down to the pool of blood which has risen up to her knees.
Rosa shook her head. “I did not run please believe me Emma I did not run away. I had to save your brother. That is why I had to leave. I had to save him.”
Aunt Olivia grabbed her shoulder, “Why did you abandon us? I took care of you when you were sick and you left us.” Her brown dress drenched in blood. Her hair was matted in dried blood. Rosa felt like vomiting,
