The mansion fell completely silent.
Fu's mother stared at Seli.
Then at her son.
Then back at Seli's stomach.
“Is she pregnant?”
The question hung in the air.
Seli's heart pounded.
She instinctively placed both hands over her stomach.
President Fu noticed.
His eyes immediately turned toward her.
“Seli.”
She looked at him.
“Are you pregnant?”
Seli couldn't answer.
She had hoped she could keep this secret a little longer.
She hadn't expected to be standing in the middle of President Fu's mansion with his mother staring directly at her.
Fu's mother stepped forward.
“You are?”
Seli swallowed.
“Yes.”
Fu's eyes narrowed.
“How far along?”
Seli looked away.
“That is private.”
Fu's mother scoffed.
“Private?”
She turned toward her son.
“A pregnant woman has been brought into this house, and you expect me to believe there is nothing going on?”
“Mother.”
“Don't ‘Mother’ me.”
Fu's expression hardened.
“I said she's staying here tonight. That's all.”
His mother stared at him.
“Then why are you looking at her like that?”
Fu went silent.
Seli looked between them.
She suddenly felt as though she had walked into a family argument that had nothing to do with her.
“I should leave.”
She turned toward the stairs.
Fu immediately stopped her.
“Where are you going?”
“I'm leaving.”
“You're not going anywhere tonight.”
Seli looked at him.
“I don't want to cause problems for your family.”
“You aren't.”
His mother's eyebrows lifted.
Fu looked at her.
“Mother, please.”
She folded her arms.
“Fine.”
Her eyes returned to Seli.
“But I'm not finished.”
Seli lowered her eyes.
Fu noticed her hands trembling.
Something inside him tightened.
He didn't understand why her fear bothered him so much.
He turned toward his mother.
“Give her some space.”
His mother stared at him.
Then she smiled faintly.
“Interesting.”
Fu frowned.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
She turned away.
“Come see me tomorrow morning.”
Then she walked toward the opposite hallway.
Seli watched her disappear.
Only when she was gone did she breathe again.
Fu turned toward Seli.
“Are you okay?”
Seli nodded.
“Yes.”
“Look at me.”
She slowly raised her eyes.
“You're shaking.”
“I'm just tired.”
Fu stared at her.
“You should rest.”
Seli nodded.
She began walking upstairs.
After a few steps, she stopped.
“President Fu.”
He looked at her.
“Thank you.”
“For what?”
“For letting me stay here.”
Fu didn't answer.
Seli continued upstairs.
He watched her until she disappeared.
Then his expression changed.
He turned toward Han, who had been standing silently nearby.
“Find out everything about her pregnancy.”
Han's eyes widened.
“Everything?”
“Hospital records. Doctor's report. Timeline. All of it.”
“Yes, President Fu.”
Fu walked toward his study.
Then stopped.
“And Han?”
“Yes?”
“Quietly.”
Han understood.
“Yes, sir.”
Seli closed the bedroom door.
She leaned against it.
Her heart was still racing.
She walked to the bed and sat down.
Then she pulled the hospital document from her bag.
She stared at it.
The report contained information she desperately wanted to keep hidden.
Especially one particular detail.
The estimated date of conception.
Seli folded the document and put it away.
She couldn't tell President Fu.
Not now.
Maybe never.
She remembered the night.
The night she had tried so hard to forget.
It had happened months ago.
A night filled with confusion and circumstances she still couldn't completely understand.
She hadn't known the man's identity.
She had only discovered pieces of information afterward.
And when she eventually learned that the mysterious man from that night was President Fu, she had refused to believe it.
The most powerful man in the city?
The father of her baby?
It seemed impossible.
Seli placed a hand over her stomach.
“What am I supposed to do?”
A tiny movement made her pause.
Her expression softened.
She smiled through the tears in her eyes.
“I'm sorry.”
She whispered.
“I'll figure everything out.”
The next morning, President Fu was already awake.
He sat at the dining table reading documents when his mother entered.
She took the seat opposite him.
Fu didn't look up.
“You're early.”
“I couldn't sleep.”
That made him look up.
“Why?”
His mother studied him.
“Who is Seli?”
Fu's expression immediately became guarded.
“I told you yesterday.”
“No. You told me she's pregnant.”
She leaned closer.
“I asked who she is.”
Fu closed the file in front of him.
“She needs help.”
“That's not an answer.”
“It is enough of one.”
His mother stared at him.
“Fu, I've known you your entire life. You don't bring strangers into this house.”
“She isn't staying permanently.”
“That's not what concerns me.”
“Then what does?”
His mother paused.
Then she asked quietly:
“Is the baby yours?”
Fu froze.
The question struck him harder than he expected.
“No.”
The answer came immediately.
But something about it didn't feel right.
His mother watched his face.
“Are you sure?”
Fu's expression darkened.
“Of course.”
“Then why are you investigating her pregnancy?”
He went silent.
His mother smiled.
“Exactly.”
Fu stood.
“Enough.”
He picked up his phone.
His mother called after him.
“Fu.”
He stopped.
“Be careful.”
He turned slightly.
“She's not the only person in this world who has secrets.”
Fu looked at her.
“What does that mean?”
But his mother had already turned away.
At that exact moment, Seli received a phone call.
She looked at the number.
Her face immediately changed.
It was her stepmother.
She almost ignored it.
Then she remembered the threats from the previous night.
Seli answered.
“Hello?”
A cold voice came through.
“Where are you?”
Seli said nothing.
“I asked where you are.”
“Why do you care?”
Her stepmother laughed.
“You really think you can disappear after embarrassing this family?”
Seli's hand tightened around the phone.
“You're the one who tried to force me into something I didn't want.”
“Lower your voice.”
“No.”
For the first time, Seli felt anger replacing fear.
“You wanted to get rid of my baby so you could solve your problems. I won't let you.”
There was a long silence.
Then her stepmother spoke.
“You have no idea what you've gotten yourself into.”
Seli frowned.
“What are you talking about?”
“Ask yourself why President Fu was at the hospital that night.”
Seli's blood ran cold.
“What?”
The call ended.
Seli stared at her phone.
Why had her stepmother mentioned President Fu?
Was it a coincidence?
Or did she know something?
Seli suddenly remembered the night everything happened.
The strange man.
The darkness.
The brief glimpse of his face.
She had never been able to clearly remember everything.
But there had always been one detail she could never forget.
A distinctive silver watch.
Seli's eyes widened.
She slowly looked toward the bedroom door.
Could it really be him?
Downstairs, Han entered President Fu's study.
“President Fu.”
Fu looked up.
“You found something?”
Han hesitated.
“Yes.”
Fu immediately became serious.
“What?”
Han placed a document on the desk.
“The hospital confirmed Seli's pregnancy.”
Fu glanced at the report.
“I already know she's pregnant.”
“There is more.”
Fu looked up.
Han continued.
“According to the medical timeline, the pregnancy began around the same period as…”
He stopped.
Fu's expression changed.
“As what?”
Han swallowed.
“The night you were at the private hotel.”
Fu went completely still.
His fingers tightened around the document.
That night.
The night he remembered only in fragments.
The night his security team had been unable to locate him for several hours.
The night he had woken up the following morning with a terrible headache and almost no memory of what had happened.
Fu slowly looked at Han.
“Are you saying…”
“We haven't confirmed anything yet.”
Fu's voice became dangerously quiet.
“Find out.”
“Yes.”
“And Han?”
“Yes, President Fu?”
“Do not tell anyone.”
Han nodded.
Then he hesitated.
“President Fu, there's one more thing.”
Fu looked up.
“What?”
Han placed another document on the desk.
“This was found in Seli's medical records.”
Fu opened it.
His eyes stopped on one line.
Then another.
His entire expression changed.
Han watched him carefully.
Fu read the information again.
And again.
He slowly raised his eyes.
“Who else knows about this?”
“According to the hospital records, only Seli and the doctor who treated her.”
Fu's gaze became cold.
“Find that doctor.”
“Yes, sir.”
Han turned to leave.
“Wait.”
Han stopped.
Fu looked down at the report.
“Get me a DNA test.”
Han's eyes widened.
“President Fu…”
Fu's voice was barely above a whisper.
“I want to know the truth.”
Upstairs, Seli stood before the mirror.
She had no idea what was happening downstairs.
She didn't know President Fu had started investigating her pregnancy.
She didn't know that the timeline was already pointing toward him.
And she certainly didn't know that Fu had just ordered a DNA test.
Her phone suddenly vibrated.
Seli looked at the screen.
It wasn't her stepmother.
It was an unknown number.
She answered cautiously.
“Hello?”
A man's voice replied.
“Seli?”
Her heart stopped.
“Who is this?”
The man laughed softly.
“You really don't remember me?”
Seli's face went pale.
“Who are you?”
“I think it's time we talked about the night you became pregnant.”
Seli couldn't breathe.
“How do you know about that?”
The man didn't answer.
Instead, he said something that made her blood run cold.
“President Fu isn't the only person who knows your secret.”
The call ended.
Seli stared at the phone.
Her hands began to tremble.
Then she heard footsteps approaching her bedroom.
Someone was coming.
Seli quickly turned toward the door.
The handle began to move.
The door opened.
President Fu stood there.
His eyes immediately landed on her frightened expression.
“Seli.”
She couldn't speak.
Fu stepped inside.
“What happened?”
Seli stared at him.
For the first time, she wondered if she could trust the man standing in front of her.
Because somewhere in the city, someone knew the truth about her pregnancy.
And now President Fu was beginning to uncover it too.
