“Sherri!” Aurora yelled, “Sherri quick! Annie fainted!”
Without realizing it, Aurora was on the floor by Annie’s side. Annie’s mom came running from the kitchen with the chef close behind her.
“It's OK…she’s OK. The transition is beginning. "Marcus, can you please lift her?" she said, looking at the chef. He swooped down and scooped Annie up in his arms. He was very tall and had thick short blonde hair. Aurora had never seen the evening chef outside the kitchen before, nor had she ever heard Annie’s mom address him by his name.
“Let’s get her outside. I don’t need her breaking anything,” Annie’s mom said before her and Marcus carried Annie down the long hall towards the double doors that lead outside. Aurora grabbed Annie’s dress and shoes and quickly hurried after them.
Marcus had laid Annie on top of a granite table in the lit yard. Annie’s backyard was huge. The patio floor was stone and at the far end of the patio were steps that led down towards a secluded pool and spa.
The spa was Aurora’s favorite place to hide, since you had to swim in the pool to get to it. The spa had a cave-like entrance that was about two feet under the water, and in the cave were dim fairy lights, and a lounge spot that was big enough to lounge across and was right above the water. Annie's mom was not a huge fan of the pool. The girls hardly ever saw Annie’s mom in the backyard, period.
Annie started to toss and turn. She let out whimpers of pain. “Aurora, Annie will be OK.” Sherri reassured her, she had noticed Aurora was starting to freak out. Aurora was clutching onto Annie’s dress and shoes so tight her hands had turned the same shade of white.
Tears began to build in her eyes while Annie started screaming, her body shaking and convulsing. Aurora could hear her bones breaking and cracking. Annie had tossed around so much that she was now out of her fluffy robe naked and on the ground. Her screams started turning into high-pitched growls and howls. Rolling over onto all fours, Annie’s back started to arch, bringing her head up by force, her eyes facing Aurora. Light brown, almost blonde fur started to grow and thicken out of Annie’s once pale skin. Her flesh ripping, freeing the wolf deep within her. Anne's most recognizable facial features were now no longer visible. Annie was a wolf. She let out a deep howl and opened her eyes. Her deep blue eyes were now bright blue and translucent.
Frighted and excited, Aurora quickly turned around and found herself in Charles' arms. Her head resting on his muscular chest, tears streaming. Annie was beautiful, but her wolf was even more so. Annie let out another howl and walked towards Aurora, sniffing and then growling at her. And then something else had caught her attention. Quickly sniffing at the air. Her wolf started to paw at the smell that lingered in the air and then took off towards the woods next to her home and she was gone.
Aurora was still in Charles' arms. ‘When did he even get there’, she thought to herself. “I’m so sorry Charles, I didn’t know you were behind me,” Aurora said through her tears, giggling.
“You are fine Rore, anytime.” Charles had a small smile on his face. Stepping back from Aurora, he looked over at Sherri and Marcus. “Well, I think it has been quite a night. Why don’t we head in for a bite then head to bed and get some rest for tomorrow? I am sure Annie will be home when her wolf has gotten in a good stretch.” Charles looked back at Aurora and then went inside the house. Aurora had not noticed at first how deeply Sherri and Marcus were both staring at each other until she went to lay out Annie’s dress and shoes. Had she missed something while watching Annie's transition?
“Um, good night, Sherri, thanks for letting me be here tonight. It was truly a beautiful experience. And goodnight, Marcus,” Aurora said before heading into the house, leaving them outside. Aurora caught the beginning of what seemed like the start of an intense argument before reaching the steps in the foyer that led up to Annie’s room.
“Aurora?” Charles was at the top of the stairs waiting.
“Yeah? Is everything OK?” Aurora replied, seeing Charles standing there gave her an uneasy feeling in her stomach. Just looking at him made her nervous and her throat dry. “Yes, I just wanted to see if you were, OK? I know witnessing a transition is very eye-opening and can be very frightening for someone who has yet to have the experience themselves.” Charles looked at Aurora like he had never looked at her before. He wanted so badly to touch her olive skin, to feel the warmth of her lips on his.
“I am ok. It really was a beautiful experience. And I can only hope that Annie feels the same way when she is at my transition. I will never forget tonight,” Aurora said. She could feel her craving for Charles growing stronger. Charles, feeling the tension himself, took a few steps back to put more space between them. “Well, I am glad you saw it that way. I uh I hope you have a good night. I left a plate of the dinner the chef prepared on the bedside table in Annie's room for you. I don't have much of an appetite tonight, so I'm just going to go handle some last-minute things before heading to bed. See you in the morning. Get some good sleep, all right”, Charles said before heading to his room.
'He called me Rore’, Aurora thought to herself. Once she got into Annie’s room, she took off her fluffy robe and put on a black silk nightgown that matched Annie’s pink one and hopped into the extra bed. Annie’s wolf was beautiful, and her transition was extraordinary. Aurora was so happy for her best friend.
