I couldn’t believe it. Everything was happening so fast, so violently, that my mind couldn’t catch up. The car sped through the streets, and I was glued to the leather seat, staring out the window, my heart pounding. It wasn’t just fear now—it was confusion. Why was I being taken? Why was Dom’s plan for my safety turning into a nightmare?
The men in the car with me barely spoke, and I could hear their faint whispers as they glanced at me in the rearview mirror. They weren’t even looking at the road anymore, so caught up in whatever they were talking about. I didn’t care to hear their plans—I just wanted to escape.
I could feel my blood rushing in my ears. My mind raced faster than the car. I needed a way out. But how? I had no idea where we were going, or what they wanted with me. I knew Luca was behind this. He had to be. But I didn’t know what game he was playing. It wasn’t just money, or power… He was after something bigger. And I was the key to it.
I had heard rumors, whispers in the halls of the Volpi family estate, about Luca’s ambitions. But I had never imagined he would go this far. He was working with the Ferrara cartel, a dangerous rival to our family. The Ferraras didn’t play fair. They didn’t care about rules. They cared only about power, control, and violence. And Luca was about to hand me over to them—whether I liked it or not.
---
"Where are we going?" I finally broke the silence, my voice sharp and defiant.
One of the men turned to look at me, his eyes cold and unfeeling. "Does it matter?" he asked, his voice low and almost mocking.
I didn’t back down. "Yes, it matters. Tell me, or I swear, I’ll make you regret it."
He chuckled darkly. "You don’t have a say in this. You’re the prize, Alessia. Luca’s prize. And the Ferraras? They’ll pay top dollar for you."
I felt the blood drain from my face. "What?" I whispered, barely able to breathe. "He’s selling me?"
He shrugged. "More like renting you out. But don’t worry. It’s just business."
"Business?" I spat, disgust filling my mouth. "What’s that supposed to mean? You’re talking about me like I’m nothing more than a possession."
He didn’t answer. Instead, he just smirked at me in the mirror.
I couldn’t let him see my fear. I couldn’t let him know how much this hurt. I needed to think of a way out. But no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t wrap my mind around what was happening. Luca was my uncle. He was supposed to protect me, not sell me to the highest bidder.
---
We drove for what felt like hours, but the car never slowed down. My eyes darted around the inside of the car, looking for anything that could be useful. I spotted a loose wire hanging from the ceiling, the kind that might have been used for a light or a camera. Maybe it could be used to my advantage. But as I reached for it, the car swerved, and I lost my balance, almost falling into the man sitting next to me.
"Careful," he grunted, pushing me away with a look of annoyance. "Don’t make this harder than it needs to be."
I could feel my anger rising. But I stayed silent. I needed to stay calm, to keep my wits about me. Luca might have been behind this, but I wasn’t going to make it easy for him. I’d survive, no matter what.
---
We reached a small, secluded building, tucked away at the edge of the city. It looked old, abandoned even. But as soon as the car pulled up, a man in a black suit stepped out from the shadows, walking toward us with slow, measured steps. His eyes locked onto me as he approached the car. He was tall, his face obscured by shadows, but something about the way he walked made me feel like he wasn’t someone to mess with. This wasn’t just Luca’s man. This was someone powerful. Someone dangerous.
The man in the car with me glanced at the others before getting out, leaving me alone in the back seat. I could hear them talking in low voices, but I couldn’t make out the words. I strained my ears, but it was no use. Whatever deal was being made, it was happening without me.
I didn’t like it.
I couldn’t stay here. Whatever they were planning wasn’t going to end well for me. The air felt thick with tension, and every part of me screamed for escape.
I had to get out.
---
My chance came when the man in the black suit opened the door to the car. "Come with me," he said, his voice low but firm.
I didn’t move. "No."
His lips curled into a small, knowing smile. "You don’t have a choice."
Without warning, he grabbed my arm and yanked me out of the car, pulling me toward the building. I stumbled, trying to regain my balance. "Let go of me!" I shouted, kicking at his legs.
He didn’t flinch. "You’re going inside," he growled, pulling me roughly.
I had no choice. I had to go. If I didn’t, I knew what would happen. But the moment we stepped inside, I froze. There was a large room, filled with men in dark suits and the smell of expensive cigars. At the far end of the room, a tall, intimidating figure stood by a large desk, his back to us. He turned slowly, and my breath caught in my throat.
It was Luca.
But he didn’t look like the uncle I remembered. There was no trace of the warm, protective family man I had once known. This man was colder, harder. He was a stranger to me now.
---
"Alessia," Luca’s voice was ice-cold as he stepped forward. "I see you’ve made yourself comfortable."
I couldn’t believe it. This was all part of his plan? Selling me to the Ferraras, the rival cartel? My own uncle had sold me like a piece of property.
"You’re making a mistake, Luca," I said, trying to keep my voice steady. "The Ferraras won’t stop at just me. They’ll come after you too."
Luca’s lips twisted into a smile, but it didn’t reach his eyes. "No, Alessia. They won’t come after me. They’ll come after you. And when they do, you’ll learn exactly how valuable you really are."
Suddenly, the door to the room slammed open, and a figure stepped inside. I didn’t need to see his face to know who it was.
Dom...?
But why was he here? What was going on?
"Let her go," Dom’s voice was hard, cold, and full of authority. He didn’t sound like the man I knew. This was someone different.
Luca turned to face him, his smile widening. "I don’t think you understand, Dom. She’s already gone."
---
Before I could react, Dom stepped forward, and in that instant, everything changed. A gunshot rang out, echoing through the room.
