16 Halo didn’t at all react to Kire for the next two days. Every time he wrote, his letters simply faded into the old pages before disappearing altogether. It wasn’t until Wednesday evening before it started working again. Kire left his mom sitting at the dinner table while she lectured her husband on the advantages of eating without breaking a dish. This time, it had been the sugar pot that cracked under his grip. He sat at his desk and switched his lamp on. The cold white light illuminated the table and scattered light throughout the rest of the room. Though Halo said its battery was low and had to recharge, Kire found that line hard to believe.
