Chapter 1

Diana's Pov

“Oh my gosh, you look so beautiful. I'm sure Aldrich would feast on you with his eyes.” Zara, my best friend and packmate walked into the dressing room with a smile on her face.

She was wearing a lilac purple dress, the same design to match my own white dress.

“Really? I feel like I look odd in this,” I said, pulling down the dress a bit, it hiked over my hips slightly, revealing my knees.

“Oh don't be a spoilsport, you look so beautiful. I'm sure Aldrich and the guests think the same. Oh look, it's almost time, the moon is already rising and the bells are ringing, your soon to be mate and alpha is waiting for you, our new Luna!” Zara teased me.

I laughed out loud trying to ignore my beating heart. It was finally time, time for me to take my place as Luna beside my mate, Aldrich.

Two women walked into the room, holding a little bouquet of lilies, my favourite flowers. They smiled and complimented my dress. A few minutes later, the four of us walked out of the room and into the Ceremonial hall.

I gasped lightly upon seeing Aldrich, the love of my life. We had met a long time ago, he was a rogue and I was to become the Alpha of the Pack following my father's death. However, because of my love for him, and as I didn't want him to feel so insecure, I gave him the title and settled for Luna.

As I walked to him, a beaming smile on my lips, Aldrich's eyes met mine. A clash of blue and black. His gaze was so intense that I felt a flutter in my stomach. However, he had a frown on his lips and an emotion I couldn't place.

“Diana,” he started, his voice was cold and detached and my smile straightened up slightly, why was he sounding like this? Did something happen?

I turned my head to glance at Zara who gave me a thumbs up, mouthing “Good luck” to me. I nodded and took a deep breath, it must be jitters. Or maybe cold feet.

“Today is the mating ceremony between our lady, Diana and her love, Aldrich. First, we must take the mating vows under the blessings of the moon.” The mating priest began, “Do you, Diana, consent to transfer your title as Alpha to Aldrich, the rogue?”

“I do.” I said without hesitation, love overflowing in my eyes.

“You promise to love him without fail, in sickness and in health? You accept him to be your mate? ” The priest asked again.

“I do.”

“Do you, Aldrich, accept the title of Alpha from Lady Diana?”

“I do.” Aldrich's deep voice sounded. It made my heart flutter once more.

“Do you accept Lady Diana as your mate? To love her in sickness and in health?”

I stared as Aldrich expectantly, my heart fluttering with excitement and nervousness. If one's heart beating so fast could cause death, I would probably be dead by now. As I waited for Aldrich's response, I saw a shadow run past the doors, he wore all black and a mask on his face. I was confused, what was that person doing here?

However, I was even more confused when Aldrich didn't say anything, keeping me waiting, “Aldrich, what are you doing?”

He looked like he had come to his senses as he finally spoke, “I, Aldrich…” he paused, looking at me, “take Zara as my mate and the future Luna of this pack, and I reject you, Diana.”

His words crashed into me like a ton of bricks, and the sudden impact almost made me fall, “W… What are you talking about? You're… You're rejecting me?” I stammered, my eyes wide.

“Of course he is. Don't tell me that you really thought he loved you?” Zara, who was behind me, said heartlessly, her words cutting into me like a knife slicing through butter.

“Z… Zara?” I gasped, my voice barely audible as I struggled to understand the situation. Aldrich had rejected me and chose Zara instead to be the Luna of the pack?

“What's going on here?!” I screamed, the confusion finally getting to me, “What are the both of you doing? Zara, explain things to me right now! Why are you rejecting me for her?!” I screeched, my eyes wide with anger.

“Oh you poor thing, how naive of you to fall in love with someone who was just using you to get the title of Alpha. Diana, Aldrich never loved you, from the beginning, the person he loved was me. I am the reason he wants to be Alpha, I am the one who asked him to court you and make you fall in love with him.” Zara stepped into Aldrich's embrace, his hands went towards her waist, holding it tightly while he smirked at me.

“Al… Aldrich, this is all a joke right? Is this a prank or something? You… You promised… You said that you would make me your Luna if I gave you my title as the Alpha! You promised! You went with me to fit in this dress, you helped me with the decorations, you professed your love for me! How can you say it was all for Zara?!” I yelled, throwing the bouquet I was holding on the ground.

“Hahahaha!” Zara laughed maniacally, I could finally see her true face.

“You look so pitiful that I am almost ashamed of myself, Diana.” Aldrich spoke up, his voice made me freeze, “Look at everyone here, do they look like friends to you?”

At his prompt, even though I didn't want to look back, I did and that's when I saw it. Everyone that was at the mating ceremony were smirking. I could see pity, hatred, hostility in their eyes.

“You…”

“They never wanted you to be Alpha, you weren't strong enough to rule the clan. So when I came into the picture, I was perfect but I also couldn't take you as my Luna, after all, you are an infertile bitch.” Aldrich spat out.

“W… what? I… infertile? What are you talking about?” I trembled.
