Chapter 4

1712 Words
Diana's Pov “Alpha Christopher…” I mumbled under my breath, my eyes locked onto his red eyes. His lips formed a thin straight line when he looked at my bandaged middle section. “Who did that to you?” Alpha Christopher suddenly asked, his deep voice had a disdainful tone to it. I flinched, and looked away. I wasn't really ready to talk about what happened, especially to a stranger that apparently, I became attracted to immediately I laid my eyes on him. Something about him just made me want to spill all of my secrets and deepest desires to him. “It's fine if you're not ready to talk to me yet. Do you know where you are?” Christopher shooed the doctor away, and he came to sit beside me on the bed, there was some space in between us. “No. But I know who you are.” “Sure you do.” He nodded his head, still staring at me with those devilish red eyes of his. My eyes moved from his eyes to his lips, and involuntarily, I licked my lips. He must have noticed my gaze, a smirk tugged at the corner of his lips, “You seem to be recovering well, considering the state you were in when l found you.” I swallowed hard, forcing away my gaze from his lips, “Thank you for helping me, I didn't think I'd survive after falling down the cliff.” Christopher’s expression softened lightly, “You're safe now. No one will hurt you as long as you're under my protection. But knowing who did this to you is a priority, can't you tell me who did this to you?” He pressed, leaning closer to me. My breath hitched, I was unable to move, the more he stared at me, the more I was sucked in. It felt like he had power over me, like he could bend me to his will and I would not even complain about it. I had never felt like this, but for some reason, I didn't hate it. But I wanted to know the reason I felt this way. So I looked at him, determined in my gaze and asked, “Why?” “Why what?” His eyebrows were raised. “Why am I feeling attracted to you when I just met you? Why do you want to know who did this to me? It's none of your concern so…” “None of my business?” He cut me off, the middle of his forehead creased lightly, a frown appearing on his face, “You feel attracted to me?” His lips twitched a little. I blushed, “You didn't have to say that again.” Christopher's smirk grew wider, the intensity in his eyes deepened, “Well, it seems the feelings might be mutual,” he said, his voice dropping to a husky whisper, “But to answer your question about why I want to know, It's only because of one thing, Diana.” He came closer, placing his large warm palms on my neck, closing around it slightly, “Can't you feel it? The mate bond, it's been beating in your heart ever since I arrived.” “The… mate… bond?” I whispered, my voice barely audible as I tried to process the words he just uttered. My heart pounded in my chest. “Yes, mate bond. You're my mate.” Christopher confirmed, “A mate bond is an unbreakable connection between two souls that are meant to be together. You and I, Diana, are mates. Fated mates. When you were in danger, I felt your pain and your anger, that was how I was able to find you.” “Hahaha… That can't be right. If I actually had a fated mate, then what was Aldrich to me?” I began to tremble. I had loved Aldrich from the moment I saw him, he had no mate and he didn't say anything about a mate bond. I thought we both didn't have any fated mates because no one whom I had ever come in contact with felt any bond with me, so I thought that perhaps, I could marry Aldrich. But it turned out that I already had a fated mate. “Then all this time… What was I… What was I doing?” I clenched my fists tightly, feeling the sting of confusion wash over me. Had he known? Wait… From the moment Aldrich came into the pack, his eyes were always on Zara, he always asked after her, they were always together. People always complimented that they looked together, that they were more of a couple. Realization washed over me. Could it be, “They already had a mate bond and I never knew about it? Both of them were fated for each other?!” I exclaimed, my hands were shaking. Christopher's hands tightened slightly around my neck, his eyes searching mine in concern, “ Diana, what are you talking about? Who is Aldrich? Is he the one who did this to you?” “Aldrich,” I began, my voice shaking, “He was the one I was supposed to be mated to.” I didn't want to say it to him before but I wanted to get it off my chest, “I thought he loved me, but he betrayed and hurt me. But maybe, he never betrayed me in the first place because he never loved me. I guess he was only with me so I could hand over my position as Alpha of the Clan to him. Since he got what he wanted, he had no use for me anymore.” Christopher's eyes darkened, his expression hardening, “That bastard.” He cursed, he sounded very angry. I chuckled, even someone I just met was angry on my behalf. “But why now? Why did I never feel the bond? Everything is messed up now.” “It's possible it wasn't time for you to know about it yet, but due to the danger you found yourself in, it automatically triggered it and called for my help. A mate bond sometimes remains dormant until a time of severe emotional need or distress.” Christopher explained. “So what do we do? I might be your mate but as the Alpha, you'll need children to continue your legacy, I can't give you that.” I looked up at Christopher and he looked visibly distressed, so I lowered my head. Of course he wouldn't want a woman who couldn't have children. I should be prepared to have my heart probably broken again. “We can talk about that later, when you heal from the anger and all other emotions you feel towards that man. In the meantime, you can stay here. I don't think you have any other place to go and even if you do, since you're mine, I can't let you go.” At his words, I felt my face flush again, this man had a way with words even if he didn't mean it. “However, I have a proposal for you. After all, you don't want those people who did this to you to go free without paying the consequences right?” Christopher smiled evilly, his eyes squinted. “What… Do you have in mind?” He had all my attention now. I did want to get revenge but for now, I was utterly powerless, there was nothing I could do in my situation. “I can help you get revenge,” He started. I was about to tell him that I could do it myself when he raised his hands, making me swallow the words that wanted to come out. “Just listen to me. I know you want to get revenge on your own but you need power, Diana. You need me, I'll help you. Push you from behind the shadows. I am also angry. They had dared to hurt my mate, I won't let them go. But I want something in return.” I narrowed my eyes, my curiosity piqued, “What do you want?” “For you to become my Luna.” “Wait, what?! But I'm already your Luna.” I grimaced, “Am I going to be doing some illegal stuff for you? I don't kill people, Christopher.” I crossed my arms, a grimace showing on my features. “No, no.” Christopher burst out laughing, his voice was melodious, I could close my eyes and listen to it all day, “I don't mean it in that form. I'm someone who hasn't gotten a mate for a very long time, all the council members are vying for their daughters to become my women. As you know, werewolves can only have one mate in their lives and since I didn't have one…” “But you do now.” “Yes I do, but that won't be enough. The council elders are shrewd, they are willing to do anything to get their daughters on my bed so they would be related to me. So, what do you think they would do to you if they find out that you are my mate?” “They might try to get rid of me.” I finally understood what he was talking about. “Yes, that is why I need you to become a person who would not have any qualms in standing by the one who is ‘head over heels for you’, one who isn't afraid to get rid of the women who will stand in your way. Do that, and I'll help you to get revenge. This is only for a duration of three months, I'll let you go after that. Will you?” Christopher stretched out his hands, offering a handshake and waiting for me to take it. My eyes narrowed as I scoffed, “Three months? That’s oddly specific. I don't have any choice in this do I?” I asked but he only gave me a closed eye smile, “Alright then.” I put my hands in his, “It's a deal.” “Welcome to my pack, Diana. My Luna.”
