The night air along the Seine felt colder than usual as Isabelle and Daniel left the café. The quiet sound of the river flowing beside them filled the silence between their footsteps.
Neither of them spoke for a few minutes.
Their conversation inside the café still echoed in Isabelle’s mind.
Dreams.
Both of them had been dreaming about each other before they even met.
It sounded impossible, yet somehow it felt real.
Daniel finally broke the silence.
“Are you okay?” he asked gently.
Isabelle looked up at him. “I think so… I’m just trying to understand everything.”
Daniel nodded. “Me too.”
They continued walking along the river, the lights of Paris reflecting on the water like small stars. The city looked peaceful, but Isabelle’s mind was full of questions.
“Do you think it means something?” she asked.
Daniel looked thoughtful. “Maybe. Or maybe it’s just a strange coincidence.”
Isabelle gave a small smile. “A very strange coincidence.”
They both laughed softly, easing the tension between them.
Just then, Isabelle noticed someone standing a few meters ahead of them near the railing of the bridge.
A tall woman dressed in a dark coat.
She seemed to be watching them.
At first Isabelle thought it was nothing, but when the woman stepped closer, Daniel suddenly stopped walking.
His expression changed immediately.
“Daniel?” Isabelle asked.
He stared at the woman with clear surprise.
“What are you doing here?” he asked.
The woman smiled calmly.
“I could ask you the same thing,” she replied.
Isabelle looked between them, confused.
“You two know each other?”
Daniel sighed slightly.
“Yes,” he said. “Isabelle, this is Camille.”
Camille stepped forward and extended her hand politely.
“Nice to meet you,” she said.
Isabelle shook her hand, though something about the woman made her feel uneasy.
“Nice to meet you too,” Isabelle replied.
Camille looked at Daniel with a curious expression.
“So,” she said lightly, “this is the girl.”
Daniel frowned. “Camille…”
But she continued speaking.
“I was beginning to wonder when I would meet her.”
Isabelle’s confusion grew.
“What do you mean?” she asked.
Camille glanced at her briefly before answering.
“Daniel talks about you more than you probably realize.”
Daniel looked uncomfortable.
“That’s not important,” he said quickly.
Camille raised an eyebrow.
“Oh? I think it is.”
Isabelle could sense a strange tension between them.
“Are you friends?” she asked carefully.
Camille laughed softly.
“Something like that.”
Daniel shook his head.
“We worked together,” he explained. “A long time ago.”
Camille crossed her arms.
“That’s one way to describe it.”
Isabelle looked at Daniel, sensing there was more to the story.
But before she could ask another question, Camille looked directly at her.
“You seem nice,” she said. “But I should warn you.”
Isabelle blinked.
“Warn me about what?”
Camille’s smile returned, but this time it felt colder.
“Daniel has a habit of getting involved in things that become… complicated.”
Daniel’s voice became firm.
“That’s enough, Camille.”
Camille shrugged slightly.
“I’m just being honest.”
Isabelle looked between them again.
“What is she talking about?” she asked Daniel quietly.
Daniel ran a hand through his hair.
“It’s nothing you need to worry about.”
Camille gave a small amused smile.
“That’s what you always say.”
The silence that followed felt heavy.
Finally Camille stepped back.
“Well,” she said, “I won’t interrupt your evening any longer.”
She looked at Isabelle one last time.
“Just be careful,” she added softly.
Then she turned and walked away into the night.
Isabelle watched her disappear down the street.
When she turned back to Daniel, he looked troubled.
“Daniel,” she said gently, “who exactly is she?”
Daniel sighed deeply.
“She used to be my partner on a project,” he explained.
“What kind of project?”
Daniel hesitated.
“It was… complicated.”
Isabelle folded her arms slightly.
“That seems to be a theme tonight.”
Daniel gave a small, tired smile.
“I promise I’ll explain everything.”
She studied his face.
“Soon?”
Daniel nodded.
“Soon.”
They began walking again, but Isabelle couldn’t shake the strange feeling Camille had left behind.
Her words echoed in Isabelle’s mind.
Be careful.
Isabelle didn’t know why, but suddenly their mysterious connection felt even more complicated than before.
And somewhere deep inside her heart, a quiet voice whispered a question she wasn’t ready to answer yet.
What if Daniel was hiding more than he had told her?
