Chapter 3: The Proposal

The council room was ice cold.
12 Alphas. 12 pairs of eyes judging.
Leo’s legs shook in her worn-out diner uniform. She didn’t belong here. Not with her cheap shoes and pregnant belly.
Damien held her hand anyway. Tight.
“I called this meeting,” Damien’s voice echoed. Alpha authority. “To make an announcement.”
“Alpha Blackwood,” Elder Marcus stood. “We heard rumors. About the Omega waitress.”
Damien pulled Aria forward. “Her name is Leo. And she’s carrying my heir.”
Gasps.
“An Omega!” someone spat. “You can’t—”
“I can.” Damien cut him off. “And I will. I claim Aria as my Luna. My wife. Effective immediately.”
The room exploded.
“You’ll be removed as Alpha!”
“The council won’t allow it!”
“Think of the pack’s reputation!”
Damien’s wolf surged. Golden eyes. Fangs. “I am the Alpha. I don’t need permission to choose my mate.”
He turned to Leo. Dropped to one knee. Right there. In front of the entire council.
From his pocket, he pulled out a ring. Black diamond. Pack crest.
“Leo,” he said softly. Just for her. “I was a coward. I rejected you. I hurt you. But I’m done running. Be my Luna. Be the mother of my child. Be mine.”
Tears fell down Leo’s face. “Damien, they’ll destroy you—”
“Let them try.”
She nodded. “Yes.”
He slid the ring on her finger. It fit perfectly.
Cheers? No. Silence. Furious silence.
Then the doors slammed open.
A woman walked in. Red dress. Perfect hair. Perfect smirk.
“Aww,” she purred. “Am I interrupting the proposal?”
Damien’s face went pale.
“Selena?” Leo whispered.
Damien’s ex. His arranged fiancée. Daughter of the most powerful Alpha in the territory.
Selena looked at Leo’s stomach. Then at the ring. Then she laughed.
“You really think the council will let a pregnant diner Omega be Luna?” She walked to Damien. Touched his chest. “Daddy won’t allow it. And neither will I.”
She leaned in and whispered loud enough for everyone to hear:
“I’m pregnant too. With your baby.”
The world stopped.
Leo’s hand flew to her own stomach.
Damien grabbed Selena’s wrist. “You’re lying.”
“Am I?” Selena smiled. “DNA test says otherwise, my love.”
