The wolf leaned in, and I was petrified.
Actually, truly, petrified.
Its hot breath ghosted over my face, its muzzle so close I could see every glint of saliva along its sharp fangs. Its body towered over mine, pinning me to the cold, damp earth. The forest had gone silent around us. No birds. No rustling. Only my frantic breathing, the pounding of my heart, and the steady, terrifying stare of the beast above me.
I couldn’t move. Couldn’t scream. My limbs were frozen in place. I thought this was the end.
