Gabriella’s POV

The cabin was near the woods so we ran towards it. We reached the woods and we saw Rob in wolf form fighting four huge rogues and Lorelei cornered by another rogue. Ben jumped on him shifting midair and tackled the rogue saving Lory and she hid behind the tree.

“Caly can we shift?” I asked my wolf.

“Not fully. You need to fight in human form, you can use our claws and canines though” she replied and I didn’t waste any time. I was heavily pregnant but I was still fast enough to fight.

“Rogues in the woods near the meditation place, Lory is with me, Ben and Rob too” I mindlinked Danny

I ran towards Rob, he had managed to kill one of the rogues but was badly injured, blood oozing out of a few wounds over his body. One of the rogues joined the one that was fighting Ben. 

I clawed one rogue and he turned to me, I kicked him in the chest and he flew hitting a tree. He lost conscience and shifted in human form. Another rogue dug his canines in Rob’s hind leg. I ran towards them and kicked the wolf sideways, he released Rob’s leg and I clawed his throat. Rob was weak, tired from the fight and looked like he was ready to give in to the darkness but then we looked towards Ben and I saw everything in slow motion.

A rogue in human form approached Ben from the back holding a knife. Just as he was ready to stab him in the back, Rob tackled him and they rolled over but the rogue landed on top of Rob and dug the knife in Rob’s chest. I was only a second late killing the rogue with my claws. Ben saw all this and he let a ferocious growl. He finished the other rogues.

Ben was in a rage state, he didn’t know what to feel or do.

“Take him to the hospital now! Or you will lose him forever” I yelled at Ben and that seemed to snap him out of his state. He took Rob in his arms and ran to the hospital. He took a look at me, hesitating about something

“GO! I will mindlink the hospital, they will be ready for you. I will meet you there.” I told him

“Are you hurt?”

“No, I am fine. Now go!” I rushed him and he ran as fast as he could.

“Babe, I am going to the hospital. I am ok but Rob was badly injured and Ben took him there. You need to come here and examine the bodies. Something was wrong with them, THey were huge.”

“I am on my way, I need to see you. Be there in a minute”

True to his words, Danny came after a minute with Nate and Cary. He hugged me and Lory. He kissed my lips and examined me for wounds. He saw the blood on me and Roden roared. 

“It’s not mine. I am not injured and pup is alright”

“Mommy, we need to go to the hospital. It is urgent” Lorelei tugged my arm

“I will explain later but we need to go. You guys need to examine the situation here” I said and kissed Danny’s lips and left.

Lory and I reached the hospital and found Ben pacing in the waiting room impatiently.

“Any news?” I asked

“Nothing. What a f*****g i***t. Why would he do that?” Ben asked no one in particular.

“Because he loves you” Lorelei answered him

“What do you know, you are just a kid. Love is too complicated for a 8 year old.” he replied

“Rob said he loves you but it’s a secret. I already knew it though. We were talking in the woods when the bad wolves came and he told me to run but the other bad wolf came and then you came” Lory tried to explain

“Rob talked about me with you” Ben asked

“He didn’t say it was you but I already knew. He said he would die for his mate even though his mate doesn’t want him.” 

“I am not his mate..” Ben started to argue but the doctor came out of Rob’s room

“What is his condition?” I asked him

“Betta” he bowed “The warrior was badly injured and he lost a lot of blood. He was stabbed with silver and the wound was very close to the heart. We managed to remove the silver from his system but he is not out of danger yet. It is all up to him and his wolf now. We did the best we could.”

“Can we go in his room” I asked

“Yes, just be careful with the IV and the monitors” he nodded and left. Ben rushed before us but as soon as he saw Rob on the bed he froze.

“He will be alright, Ben. He is a warrior, he is strong.” I tried to reassure him and put a hand on his shoulder. I saw his eyes filling with tears. I pulled him to me in a hug

“I am a warrior. I don’t need consoling from you” he tried to push me away

“Well too bad because I am your pregnant Betta and I need to be consoled or the stress would harm my pup” I said. I knew he needed to feel in control right now so I gave him that. He relaxed in the hug and not long after that he let his tears fall silently on my shoulder.

“What will I do if I lose him? I don’t know what to do and I don’t know how or what I feel. I am so confused. I just know that my heart feels like someone is squeezing it and I feel like I can’t breathe.” he sobbed defeated

“It sounds like you know pretty well how you feel.” I chuckled.

“I can’t… How will I be a warrior if I accept this?” Ben asked and I led him to the chairs near the bed to sit. Lorelei tried to sit in my lap but my belly was too big and she sat in Ben’s. He didn’t object.

“Ben, why are you so worried? How would your acceptance of Rob as your mate be connected to being a warrior?” I asked him

“I mean… I don’t know. A gay warrior?” he chuckled dryly

“Being gay doesn’t make you weaker or less manlier or whatever you are worried about. Also I remember a girl kicked your ass a couple of months ago” I giggled

“Doras isn’t strong enough because his mate doesn’t want him and he is in a state of rejection. He will only survive if his mate accepts him.” Larelei said, her eyes twinkled while she spoke and then laid her head on Ben’s chest.

“Who is Doras, Lory?” I asked her but she fell asleep

“Rob’s wolf. Why does she keep talking like this? You pup is even weirder than you” He said but I knew he didn’t mean offense toward Lory

“She has a gift,” I sighed. “She isn't supposed to show it to people because it is dangerous but it is hard for her to control it. And she also cares too much about people and wants to help them.”

“What gift?” he asked as he stood up carefully with Lory in his arms and put her on the couch in the  room.

“When she looks at a person she knows their name and what they need the most. That is how she explains it. I think she can also communicate with others’ wolves. You need to keep this a secret, Ben.” I answered

“I feel protective of her for some reason, I wouldn’t do anything to to put her in danger” he said quietly

“So you can be calm and civilized if you want” I tried to joke

“I didn’t know I could. This is a first”

“What changed?”

“Realizing I don’t want to lose him and I’d rather give up my dream than live a life without Rob by my side?” he said sounding like a question

“As your friend?” I asked smirking

“You are gonna make me say it, aren’t you? What a bitchy betta. Fine, I want Rob as my mate. But I am still confused, Gabriella.”his eyes never left Rob’s body on the hospital bed while he was talking

“Why?”

“Why what?”

“Why are you confused?”

“I have been in denial for so long… It’s hard to… um… fully accept it”

“You have already accepted it, Ben. Maybe you aren’t ready to show it to the world yet but I promise you we'll support you whenever you are ready.” I told him and he just nodded

The doctor came into the room and checked the machines. His eyebrows connected and his face was in a scowl.

“What is it, doctor?” I asked

“His vitals aren’t good and I don’t know what to do. It’s like he is giving up, his wolf is giving up” the doctor said, shaking his head and left the room.

“This is all my fault,” Ben said sobbing. “15 years. I lost 15 years denying that I could have had, I denied him the love that he needed and now he will die because he protected me . I don’t deserve to have a mate. I don’t deserve him.”

“Benny, if you don’t mark Robby now, he will die and Bones will die too.” Lorelei said, holding Ben’s hand and tugging him toward Rob’s bed. We didn’t realize she was awake. Ben looked down at her and then me.

“What if he doesn’t want me anymore? What if I am not good enough for him? What if…”

“You’re stalling” I cut him off. “That man stayed next to you, feeling a one-sided bond for 15 years. He will be the happiest man alive when he wakes up marked. You owe this to him, Ben and you awe this to your wolf. Bones is it?” Ben nodded in answer to my last question or maybe in agreement of what I said.
