35. I reject you as my mate

Third person POV

“I detected dark magic in the woods. Deep dark magic. I never felt dark magic so… dark” Odette said

“Do you know who that might be?” Gabriella asked

Odette shook her head. Her eyes turned white and her body froze. The group of friends didn't know what to think. Daniel shook her body, the others called her name but her trance-like state didn't change. A few minutes later Odette's eyes turned back to her normal color. 

"I was summoned to the Ethereal realm. My sisters will come and we will create a protection around your pack lands. This will give you time to train and strengthen the pack. A big war is coming and your children will play a big part in it. You may want to make friends with other species as well." Odette's explanation only gave the group of friends more questions. 

"Do you know who we will fight? Who is the dark witch? Is she working with Leviathan? Which species can we trust?... " Gabriella started shooting question after question but Odette lifted her hand in a stop sign interrupting her. 

"I do not have the answers to your questions. They weren't given to me. Selene and Fates are very cautious about the way everything plays out this time. The more information you have of the future the better chance of you changing it and we can't afford that. As for your last question, every species has their good and bad people just like werewolves and humans. Even some dark witches have good hearts." Odette replied

"Tonight is a full moon. We will cast the protection when the moon is at its highest point. Malakai, you should mark Aurora before that. She will be able to shift after the protection is casted. I suggest you are all present for her shift, but no other wolves. I am not sure why. I just feel it." the witch added. 

Aurora's POV

I am so excited and nervous at the same time. I will finally be able to mate with Malakai. Even though I am still just human, the bond is getting stronger every passing minute. It was getting really hard to keep our hands to ourselves.

We did find ways to pleasure each other but we always had to stop before we lost control. When I was still recovering it was easier for Malakai to control his wolf, Khonsu, but now that I felt better he was getting very impatient. He understood that we had to wait for the full moon but his primal instincts to mate with me took over sometimes. 

I had a good connection with Khonsu and was able to calm him usually. Malakai let him take control a few times and we talked about a lot of things, despite being an animal, he was a wise wolf, he had seen a lot. Malakai was also very experienced and wise due to his age. Khonsu took me out on dates in the woods, he had a romantic part just like Malakai, that is why they were so in sync with each other. We also had some intimate moments with Khonsu which helped keep him at bay.

I am now walking hand in hand with Malakai to our homey cottage. It was a simple home, we didn’t care much about luxury and technology. The only tech we owned were the kitchen devices and our TV and Netflix account. 

I am a bit nervous about our mating. Excitedly nervous. I am not a virgin, I had been intimate with my high school boyfriend. We were best friends for a long time until our friendship took a romantic turn. We were 17 and in love. We fit perfectly or so we thought. 

After Jasper turned 18 he started to act differently. I was an orphan and was given a dorm room due to my high grades and Jas practically lived with me but after his birthday he started making up reasons not to come over as often and we even stopped being intimate. 

After a week of this heartbreak I decided to confront him. We met at the park for a picnic, I bluntly asked him if he was dating another girl. I couldn’t think of any other reason for his behavior.

—* flashback*----

Jasper’s head hung. He couldn’t lie to me, we knew each other for so long and so well.

“I swear I haven’t cheated on you and I still have feelings for you, Rory. But I can’t control the pull I have for her” he said and my heart panged. He was hurting too, I knew he wasn’t lying to me but it didn’t help my heartache.

Just then his eyes met mine but they were all black, animalistic. I wasn’t scared although I should have been. His voice was different when he spoke.

“Don’t be afraid, human. I don’t have much time before Jasper takes back control, so please listen to me.” his eyes were pleading. I was confused as hell but nodded. My guts told me I should hear what he had to say.

“Jasper is a werewolf and I am breaking a sacred law by revealing this to you, but I feel I can trust you. I am his wolf, Runner. We found our fated mate on our 18th birthday but he is fighting the bond because he has feelings for you. He wants to reject our mate.” He opened his mouth to say more but his eyes turned back to his brown color.

“Rory please, let me explain” He said in his normal voice

“Is this true?” I whispered and he nodded

“What is a mate?” I asked, looking down. Jasper sighed deeply

“Every werewolf is given a fated mate by the Moon Goddess Selene. It is our soulmate, we are made for each other to fit perfectly. Every wolf dreams of their fated mate. I was sure you were mine because I love you so much, Rory. But I feel the pull towards her, too. The bond isn’t unbreakable, though. I will reject her and then we can be together.”

“What about your wolf? Does he feel the same way?”

“He will come around once the bond breaks.” he said confidently

“Are you sure you have no feelings for her?” I asked

“No. The bond is a weird thing. It makes you feel connected to the person instantly. I am not sure if these feelings are true or they are only the bond.” he said honestly

“Do you know her? Is she a good person?” 

“Yes. We live in the same pack. She is kind to everyone and shy. She wants to be a teacher at the orphanage.”

“Then why do you want to reject her?”

“Because I love you and I want to be with you” he said but I know he felt conflicted. He pulled me in a hug.

“Did you talk to her?”

“No, I've been avoiding her. I am ashamed to admit it and I know it's wrong. It is just hard. But I know she will understand and will accept my rejection.”

A gasp was heard and we looked at the direction of it. There stood a beautiful girl with long blond hair and soft blue eyes full of tears. 

“Jasper” she whispered, her tears falling down her face freely now

“I am sorry Simone. I truly am. But I love Aurora and I don’t want to hurt her.” 

Simone sobbed and my heart ached seeing her pain. 

“I, Jasper Bane, reject you, Simone Winters as my mate” as soon as the words left his mouth both Simone and Jasper fell on the ground clutching their hearts obviously in pain. Simone breathed heavily but looked at Jasper and then gave me a sad smile.

“I, Simone Winters, rej..”

“NO!” I yelled, interrupting her. She looked at me questioningly.

“Let her finish, Aurora or we won’t be able to be together” Jasper said, still in pain

“Jas, you can’t do this. I can’t do this. This bond is very strong. Even I can see it. You don’t want to do this and you are rejecting her for the wrong reason. You feel guilty that you will hurt me but I will never be able to give you what she can. She is your soulmate. Please be happy. I will be ok, I promise” I pleaded

“Aurora, he doesn’t want me. It happens with mates sometimes. I am not good enough for him. I will be ok.” Simone lied. I could feel that she lied, she wanted Jasper to be happy because she already loved him. And Jasper’s eyes held so much pain after hearing her words.

“No, Simone, you are wrong. He is doing it because he feels responsible for me. Because I am an orphan, he was my only family. But I know him so well. He is not rejecting you for the right reason. He is doing it out of guilt.” Then I turned to Jasper. “Please don’t do this to me. I cannot live with the guilt of separating two soulmates. You know how I feel about fate and souls. Please take your rejection back and be happy together.” his eyes were full of tears but he knew I was right, he started sobbing.

“She is right, Simone. Ever since I found out you were my mate I couldn’t stop thinking of you. But I felt responsible for Rory and didn’t want to hurt her. The reason was never that you aren’t good enough for me. In fact I don’t deserve you, but if you let me I will do everything in my power to try and make it up to you. Will you accept me?” Jasper pleaded. Simone stood up.

“I, SImone Winters…” she paused, I smirked. She was torturing Jasper, he deserved it. “accept you, Jasper Bane, as my mate” Jasper let out a sigh of relief.

“I, Jasper Bane, accept you, Simone Winters as my mate” he stood up and walked slowly towards her and pulled her into his arms. My heart ached but I knew I did the right thing. I would be ok, just needed time to heal.

“Thank you, Aurora. I will never forget what you did for us. I will pray to the Moon Goddess to grant you a mate. You deserve happiness as much as we do.” Simone said through her tears of happiness

“Do you think it’s possible? I am human”

“Yes, it is not uncommon for humans to be mated to supernatural beings. We will both pray for you” Jasper’s wolf said, I recognized his voice this time. I gave them a small smile and turned to leave. It was time to tend to my own broken heart. Not only did I lose a boyfriend but also my best friend, my only friend and family. I was happy for him but I needed time to heal. A hand held mine to stop me. I turned around, barely holding back my tears. 

"I know that you are hurt. Please tell me what I can do for you. Anything you need that is of my power, I will do it." Simone said. She really was a good person. She was sincere and couldn't let herself feel happy while it caused someone else's pain. 

"Make Jasper happy and do pray to your Goddess to give me what she gave you" I said with a sad smile on my face. "I will be fine. I just need some time to heal on my own." I said and hurried to leave.
