24. The prophecy

Carline’s POV

I was riding Nate on the couch of the office, I just couldn’t wait to go to our bedroom. I was about to c*m when Malakai entered without knocking or he might've knocked but we didn’t hear him.

“Leave” Nate roared as soon as he saw Malakai’s head popping in.

“Alright, I will be back in a bit though” he said and left laughing

I slowed down my pace, ready to stand up but Nate held me down firmly

“Don’t stop.” he growled and the vibrations in his chest sent me to another world of pleasure. I resumed my activity until we both came. 

Nate mindlinked Danny and Ella, knowing they might need a minute or two to get ready as well. A minute later they came in the office, I was still trying to fix my hair. Ella gave me a knowing look and the boys smirked at each other.

Malakai came back.

“Are you decent?” he shouted from the other side of the door

I went to the door and opened it. “Now you knock?”

He chuckled and came in. He sat down and we told him about Ben and Rob. He wanted to meet with them so we mindlinked them but for obvious reasons their block was up. 

“Selene’s glow is decreasing, I think she is waking up. The prophecy is almost complete too.” Malakai said

“Are you nervous” Ella asked him

“Actually, yeah I am. If she gets all her memories back, maybe she will need to go back to her realm and that would mean I will lose my second chance mate again.” His head hung

“Why would a goddess want to stay here in the mundane world with me?” I am starting to feel rejected already” Malakai confessed.

“Maybe Lorelei would know something?” Daniel suggested. We all knew what losing a mate meant and we wanted to help him. He looked at us with hope in his eyes. Ella mindlinked the babysitter to bring the pups.

“Uncle Makky” they all yelled and jumped on him. He spent time with them on his visits and they liked staying with him and Selene, so they got close. Even Zane loved him.

“Hey guys. How have you been?” he asked them

“We were playing in the arts room. Jassy drew a sea monster but she said he only looks bad. He has a good heart.” Lory replied

“Then why does he look so scary, Jassy?” Malakai asked her

“Someone is poisoning him and if no one saves him he will be too far gone.” Jasmine replied

“His sins aren’t his but he took the blame. Now he knows he was wrong to do that and he has only one chance to save the world from doom” Zane continued.

“What are you talking about, pups?” Malakai felt confused

“We know things but we can’t explain them and we see a lot of things when we are together. It is not the time yet.” Jasmine said

“You need to call the gammas now. You need to go to Selene. You will have your answers soon, uncle Makky” Zane said

“Ben, Rob, are you available?” I tried the mindlink again

“Yes, Luna. Do you need us?” Ben replied

“Come to the office”

“On our way, Luna”

A few minutes later the guys came and we introduced them to Malakai. They talked for a bit but Khonsu rushed Malakai to go to Selene. 

We all went to her room and we saw her body levitating. Her glow spread throughout the room and then disappeared. Selene’s body started to fall but Malakai caught her and laid her gently on the bed. Her eyes fluttered open and she looked at us all one by one. She stood up and we all kneeled before her.

“Goddess” we all said

“My children,” she whispered. “Please stand up.”

She walked towards Ben and Rob first. Her eyes filled with tears. "I am so happy I was finally able to give you human mates who accepted each other." She caressed both of their cheeks with motherly love.  Their eyes darkened, she must’ve called their wolves.

“It took this one 15 years to accept my mate” Bones growled annoyed. But Rob and Doras put a hand on his back and ran it up and down to comfort him. It worked.

“You must forgive him, Bones. What matters is that we are now together.” Doras told him and Bones nodded

Selene came toward us. 

“My children. You suffered the most and it is my fault. I made a grave mistake centuries ago and you are paying for my mistakes now.” Her tears fell freely from her eyes.

I looked at Ella and we both rubbed our pregnant bellies and smiled.

“Moon goddess,” Ella started

“Call me Selene, we are past formalities already” Selene interrupted

“Ok,” Ella sighed. “Selene, it is true that we had rough times. We all suffered for a long time but something good came out of it, too. We have families now and we are happy with our second chance mates and our pups. Let’s focus on the future and how to save it.”

Danny moved behind Ella and his arms snaked behind her. Nate did the same with me and kissed my neck. Selene gave a small smile.

“If you had asked me 15 years ago I would have been mad at you and demanded from you to fix it. But now I am happy with what I have and I wouldn’t change it.” Nate said.

Ella and Nate suffered the most, their heartbreak was the worst. Sometimes I feel like Ella’s loss was my gain and I know Danny felt the same. 

“I know what you two are thinking about. Don’t go there. We are here now and we are happy. We truly are. I wouldn’t change what I have with Danny and I have no doubt about it.” Ella said

“I have a lot to tell you all, but first,” she turned towards Malakai. “Malakai, I know your fears but do not worry. First, let me make this clear, I am not your mate. Your mate is the soul of this mortal body. SHe is aware of everything that is going on and she already loves you. She is human but the rest is her story to tell. She was a worshiper of mine and when I needed to descend to the mortal realm I asked her permission to occupy her body. She knew about everything and she agreed. I will free her body soon and you will have your mate. I ask you to have a little more patience.”

“Ok” was all Malakai could say with a shaky voice.

“Come sit next to me and hold our hand. She can’t bare to see you in pain.” Malakai was a sight to be seen. This 215 years old wolf looked like a teenager who was afraid to approach a girl he liked. He walked slowly to the bed, his breath uneven. He sat next to Selene, unsure how close it was appropriate to be. She wiggled closer giggling softly and held Malakai’s hand. He visibly relaxed.

“The prophecy is complete. You need to save it on paper because it will disappear when I leave this body.” She extended her hand for us to read it.

“A soul was lost and monster created

the curse was a mistake and doom awaited

In order to prevent it one must accept it

stand tall and face the wrath that might end it

Hard choices would be made 

to create the perfect mate

The one with the ability to tame the beast

will be the one that you expect the least

unless its soul is too far gone 

to recognize the precious being

that’s meant to be his salvation

and give him back his feelings

If the cycle breaks on the mark of the sixty

redemption will be granted for the guilty

The beast will go to sleep for long

until it’s time to right the wrong.

For the light to be saved and the balance protected,

the memories that were once lost should be tended.

Care and friendship is all that is needed for it bloom

but forceful knowledge will bring you to your doom.

What’s lost will come on it’s own

and then the Moon will be back to her throne

Secrets revealed and honesty are the keys

to save the world from its demise”

“We know that Leviathan is the cursed beast.” Ella said

“Yes, but what you don’t know is that his curse was a mistake. My mistake. A series of mistakes actually. It’ll be better if you sit. It’s a long story.”
