28. You want a kiss too?
Ben's POV
Rob and I started our first day as gammas with Gabreilla's meditation class. Actually we started the day with something else, you know, I just can't get enough of Rob's body. Anyway, after the meditation we had breakfast and met the warriors for our first training session. The Alpha, Bettas and Luna joined us but they stood amongst the crowd as trainees.
We did the warm up and Rob announced: "The training will be different from now on. We will test your abilities and then we will make teams of trackers, fighters, spies, etc."
"Each special force will have specific training to develop their strengths. In a week we will arrange a challenge in which you will have to work as a team. But you will find out the rules later. Now back to training." I added.
"Is there anyone who already knows which team they belong to or would like to join?" Rob asked
We proceeded taking notes and at the end of the training we were satisfied with the results. There were a few who wanted to be moved to another team even though it wasn't their stronger side but we allowed it. Everyone had a choice.
Zane, Jasmine and Lorelei actually helped us too. Discreetly, of course. We didn't want others to know about their abilities. For some pack members the test results weren't solid so we let them decide where to go and of course they could change in the future.
After the training we took the pups to the park and the leaders went to the office to take care of pack business. The newborns were with us too.
“What would you like to do?” I asked the pups
“I Love the woods, Benny, can we go in the woods?” Lorelei said. Every time the pups called us Robby and Benny my heart melted
“I love the sea” Jasmine said a little sadly
“I like the woods too” Zane said
“I know the perfect place” Rob said
He led us through the woods. Lory was touching every tree and plant we passed by, she kissed a few. I noticed Zane was walking after her and he smelled every flower Lorelei kissed. We reached a clearing with a beautiful lake.
“I know this is not the sea but I hope you like it. It is also close the woods so Lorelei and Zane can enjoy the woods” Rob said
“Thank you Robby,” Jasmine said and kissed Rob’s cheek
“Hey, where is my kiss?” I pouted as I sat on the blanket I just laid on the grass.
Lorelei jumped on me and kissed my cheeks, I laughed. Rob sat next to me and put Jayden and Freyah between us. Zane also sat on the blanket but his mood was sour.
“Hey, buddy, what’s up? You want a kiss too?” I joke. He was about to reply but Lory pecked his cheek and ran to the woods. Zane blushed and I chuckled but his mood was definitely fixed.
“Zane, why don’t you follow Lorelei?” Rob offered
“To protect her” I nudged him. He puffed his chest proudly and went after Lorelei. I gave Rob a knowing look.
“Jassy, do you like swimming?” I asked her
“Yes!” she started jumping up and down excitedly.
“Ok, lets go”
We had a lot of fun with the pups and it made me wonder if I will ever be a father. Me and Rob were orphans and I never thought of having a family before but now I think I really want to. Maybe I should talk to Rob later.
We were walking through the woods on our way home for lunch. Zane tugged my arm
“Benny, your friends are looking at us”
“What friends?” I looked around and saw Shawn and Barney, the goons that used to follow me. They approached us.
“So is this what being a gamma means? Babysitting while the others do the job” Shawn said
“What do you want, Shawn?” I asked
“Just came to see our old friends. You forgot about us now that you are from the highlife”
“Look, guys, I know we used to hang and do some stuff together but those days are over for us. I was wrong for doing the s**t I used to do. If you wanna hang out it’s fine but none of that s**t anymore” I said
“You think we would want to hang out with you two faggots?” Barney spat
“Then leave us” Rob said and headed towards the packhouse and I followed him with the pups
“This ain’t over” Barney yelled after us
“Your friends’ glow has changed. They are bad, very bad.” Zane said
“They make me itchy” Lorelei added
“Yes, they can't be saved. They like who they are.” Jasmine said
“I believe you.” I said sadly. I used to call these guys friends but the truth is I never trusted them
“I think we should explore your gifts more and start training them. What do you say we go out again after lunch?” Rob suggested
We met with Nate, Cary, Ella and Danny and had a pleasant lunch together. The females took the newborns to the nursery to feed them and put them to sleep, the alpha and betta went to the office for some more pack work and me and my mate went out with Lory, Jassy and Zane.
We went to the park where there were more werewolves and sat on the benches.
“Ok, now observe the people and tell us what you see or feel.” Rob told them.
“There is Santra, she is 21. Her mate rejected her because she didn’t want to go to his pack. She was looking after her old grandmother who raised her. Her parents were killed by rogues and she wanted to look after her grandmother now. Her ex-mate didn’t care and said he can’t take ill wolves to his pack and rejected her.” Lorelei said
“Do you see people’s past?” I asked her
“No, I can feel her thoughts and she was thinking about that. She feels very lonely and is thinking of taking her own life when her grandma leaves her” Lorelei added
“Her glow is really sad. It makes me want to cry. She is a nice person and is very smart too. She wanted to be a teacher” Zane added
“She can’t have pups, the rogues who killed her parents attacked her too and she barely survived but the injuries made her empty inside” Jassy said
“It seems like you have the same abilities” I said
“No, we don’t but when we are together our gifts get stronger and they mix, like… puzzle pieces” Zane tried to explain
“Ok, so it seems like Zane can read people’s aura, Lorelei knows everyone’s names and needs and can feel their thoughts and Jasmine can see their health. Can you heal them too?” Rob tried to summarize.
“Only sometimes but I am not sure how it works yet” Jasmine said
“Who are those pups? There is no school now, why are they with teachers?” Lorelei asked.
“Those are the pups from the orphanage. The teachers take care of them all year. We grew up there with your mother.” I explained
I recognized Mrs Simmons and we all went to say hi.
“Good afternoon, Mrs Simmons” I greeted her respectfully
“Gamma Ben, Gamma Rob. What a nice surprise” she said softly
“Mrs Simmons, how are you doing? How is everything in the orphanage?” Rob asked
“If you really want to know, why don’t you come visit us sometime?” she suggested with a smile.
“I’d love to” I said
“If you weren’t gammas already I’d suggest you join our school as teachers but I know you are too busy now for it.” she said
“We failed almost every exam, Mrs Simmons. I don’t thinks we are suitable for teachers” Rob said
“Oh you never fooled me. I knew how hard you both studied and only pretended to be dummies. I never understood why” My eyes widened when she said that.
The truth is I loved studying and Rob did too. It was our secret, we would study secretly but failed every exam thinking we would be lame if we showed we were smart.
“Busted” Zane giggled
“Hey if you need more teachers, I think we would be able to help. Let’s meet tomorrow at Mr Simmons’ office?” I said
“Sure thing, gamma! We will be waiting for you at 10 am?”
“Perfect” Rob replied and we said our goodbyes.
“Now, let’s test your gifts,” I told the pups and we all headed to the packhouse and went to the alpha office. I knocked
“Come in” the alpha said
“Alpha, Betta” me and Rob said together and bowed
“Let’s drop the titles when it’s just us, guys, please. You can call me Nate or Nathaniel” the alpha said
“And me - Danny or Daniel” said the betta
“Ok, Nate…” I tested his name, it didn’t feel too awkward, so I continued. “We would like to see the file of a pack member. Her name is Santra, she is 21. Lost her parents in a rogue attack.”
“Sure, I will mail it to you. Mind sharing what you need it for?” Nate said
“We are testing a theory for your pups’ gifts. Let us see how this goes and we will give you all the details later.” Rob said
“Alright. How much time do you need? I am curious” Danny said
“We will know tomorrow and will meet you all.” I said
We went to our gamma office and opened the file. I pulled out my phone and dialed her number on speaker.
“Hello?” a soft voice answered.
“Hello, this is Gamma Ben speaking, Are you Santra?” I said using my title for the first time
“Yes, gamma. What can I do for you?”
“I spoke to Mrs Simmons from the orphanage today and she mentioned that they needed teachers. As you may know me and my mate grew up there so we decided to help. We looked through pack members files and yours came up. Are you looking for a job?” I said
“Um.. yes, gamma, but my grandmother is sick and I need to look after her. What are the working hours?” she asked
“As you know the orphans need constant care and being a teacher to them also means being a mother to the pups. It is not the same as working at school. I have an idea, though. Let me call you back in a couple of minutes?”
“Ok”
I hung up the phone and dialed Mr Simmons.
“Hello, Mr Simmons. This is Ben.”
“Hello, gamma” he said
“I spoke to Mrs Simmons earlier and she said you could use more teachers. I think I have the perfect candidate but she is looking after her ill grandmother.” I explained
“I see. Well as you know we have our hospital wing here in the orphanage. I believe we can make arrangements to accommodate the grandmother in a hospital room and we have an apartment available for the teacher. Nurses will look after the elderly shewolf while the granddaughter is working.” Mr Simmons offered
“Awesome. We will bring her tomorrow for an interview” I said and hung up the phone
I dialed Santra again and told her what the principal offered.
“I don’t know what to say, gamma. I have always wanted to be a teacher, thank you so much for this opportunity. I will not disappoint you.”
“Don’t thank me yet, you will still have to impress Mr Simmons at the interview tomorrow” I tried to joke
“See you tomorrow at 8.30 for breakfast at the packhouse then we will go together to the interview.”
“Ok, see you tomorrow”
