33. Silver knives into the hearts

Ben’s POV

Once we were inside, I pulled Rob’s body to mine and kissed him with all the love that I had for him. I leaned my forehead on his after we broke apart and cupped his face, his arms were around my waist keeping me close.

“I am not afraid of the battle, I know we can beat them easily. I am just worried that I am the reason for the way that they are now. They followed me and I instilled my sick thoughts in them. I feel guilty” I admitted

“My love, don’t forget that I was also following you and I didn’t turn out to be like them, did I? I am just saying that we are all grown up now and we can choose who to be. It is not your fault, Ben” Rob said and kissed me again. We cuddled on our couch for a bit and then headed to the office.

“You guys have our full support, we will be cheering for you. I am sure most of the pack will too” Nate said and Danny patted our backs in support

“We appreciate it, guys. We appreciate the trust you put in us and we will not fail you.” Rob said

“Let’s go and get this over with” Ella said

We headed to the training grounds, all our pups were there. I growled. I didn’t want them to be there and see the battle.

“Hey little guys, what are you doing here?” I kneeled down, Rob followed. The pups gathered around us.

“Daddies, I am scared. You will get hurt” Iris frowned

“No, they won’t, our dads are strong” said Noah and put his hand on Iris’ shoulder. I hugged both of them and Rob joined us.

“We will be alright, Iris, but we want you to stay inside. We don’t want you to see this battle.” Rob said

“Okay”, said Iris and gave us a kiss on the cheeks. Noah looked shyly at us. I pulled him in a hug and kissed his cheek, Rob kissed his other one.

“There is no shame in wanting to show care and affection, Noah” Rob whispered and winked at him. Noah nodded and took Iris’ hand leading her to the packhouse. 

Zane, Jasmine and Lorelei came to us and each gave us a kiss on the cheek.

“Now you don’t need luck. You are good” Jasmine said, I looked at her confused, but Nate called for us and the pups left

I pecked Rob’s lips and we walked hand in hand to the training field. We stood against Barney and Shawn, they looked smug.

“Ok, you will fight until submission or knock out. The losers will have the choice to either stay in the pack as omegas and climb their way up in the hierarchy or leave to be rogues. Questions?” We shook our heads. “Begin” Nate boomed

We took our stance and waited patiently for their first move. It didn’t take long for Shawn and Rob’s first attack. It was messy and we dodged it easily, they stumbled and we pushed their backs, landing them face first on the ground

The goons got up fast and looked at each other confused, they mindlinked shortly and took protective stance. I glanced at Rob, he looked in my eyes and I knew he understood that I wanted to end this. 

We ran towards them and I lifted my fist towards Shawn's face. He dodged but I squatted and swept my foot under his and he landed on the ground on his back. Barney was on the ground, too. They stood up quickly again and started repeating something in latin. It sounded like a chant. Huh? I looked at Rob but he just shrugged his shoulders.

We launched at them successfully landing a punch in their noses which knocked them out. This must have been the quickest challenge. I wonder why these f***s even bothered with it. They knew we were way stronger than them. The crowd cheered and some came to congratulate us. Shawn and Barney were taken to the hospital.

We all met at the office and the children joined us. We sat in silence for a bit, Iris was in my lap and Noah in Rob’s. Jasmine was nervously clutching her stuffed wolf.

“Are you ok, Jassy?” I asked her. Lorelei held her hand and nodded at her

“Yes, we need to tell you something.” she said

“It’s ok, baby girl, you can tell us anything.” Danny cooed and hugged his daughter

Zane went closer to Jasmine and put his hand on her shoulder.

“Do you want me to tell them, Jassy?” he offered quietly and she nodded

“We didn’t come to the battle to wish you good luck” Zane sighed. “We saw the bad guys’ aura the other day and we knew it was too dark, they are very very bad, there is no light. This morning at the meeting with the pack, Jasmine saw that you were infected with something. She tried to heal you with a touch but it was too strong. We needed to be together. That’s why we came together and we all gave you a kiss, not to look suspicious.”

“I heard them chanting something in Latin during our battle. They looked really confused when we managed to hit them, but I thought they were just overconfident" Rob said, I nodded. 

"It looks like they tried to cheat using magic." Nate said

"And they succeeded. If it wasn't for Jassy we may have been dead" I said

"But how come I didn't feel strange. My wolf didn't feel a thing." Rob thought out loud 

"I didn't feel anything either. My wolf, confirms it, too" I confirmed 

"Maybe the witches could help us understand?" Danny said

“I will send them a message but I don’t know if they can come.” Ella said.

“What do we do with the goons?” Cary asked

“Nothing for now. Let them think we don’t know what they did and follow them. We might find who helped them” Nate said. “Let’s go see them in the hospital”

Third person POV

The group of friends headed to the hospital to see if the challengers were already awake. The nurses said they heal slower than normal werewolves and the doctor suspected their wolves are dormant or just refuse to heal them. It happens sometimes if the wolf part doesn’t agree with the human’s actions and find them disrespectful, they refuse to heal or shift.

This only confirmed the suspicions of the group of leaders and also what their pups said. They chatted for a bit about their schedule for the next day and decided to leave and come back later. The alpha instructed the nurse to mindlink him when they wake up.

As soon as the group left the room, Barney’s eyes fluttered open and he took his phone out to send a text message. Shawn stirred and woke up too.

“Who are you texting?” Shawn asked

“The witch, I heard they are changing their schedule tomorrow”

“Are you stupid? Why do you keep giving them information? We lost and now we don’t owe them anything” Shawn growled. 

The goons argued for a bit more but were so tired that they fell back to sleep

The next few days went by smoothly. The goons woke up and decided to stay as omegas for now. The meditation classes and other training were going well and the pack worked like a well-oiled machine. Aurora and Malakai started showing up for breakfast, lunch and dinner and even joined meditation and some of the other training sessions.

They shared that they have decided Malakai to mark Aurora on the next full moon which was after a week. Everyone could see how much they were in love with each other. Malakai started showing up at the council daily but came back in the evenings to live as a pack member in Blue Moon with Aurora. 

One morning while Gabriella was leading her meditation class, Caroline got a distressed mindlink from the border patrol that they found traces of rogues. Nathaniel was visiting a neighboring  pack to help with some business issues, so she mindlinked Daniel to join her.

The two of them went together at the border and inspected the given area. During the new gamma’s training Daniel was able to develop his tracking abilities and he immediately detected the foul smell of the rogues. 

“I smell rogues near our border. I will follow the scent, send some warriors for back up. I have Cary with me.” He opened mindlink with Ben, Rob and Gabriella

“Be safe, my love. Please be careful” Ella replied in private link

“Always, babe. I love you” Daniel replied to her.

Daniel sniffed the air and followed the scent. It was following the pack borders and it almost seemed like they wanted to be found. Caroline followed Daniel and soon they reached a clearing near a hill with a cave. They went closer to the cave’s dark entrance and soon red eyes started to pop in the darkness. 

“You are at the border of our pack land. Come out and state your business” Daniel said.

Three rogues came out of the cave in wolf form baring their teeth. Daniel shifted and growled at the rogues.

“If you don’t shift we will have no other choice but to find your behavior as a challenge and danger for our pack.” Caroline said but the three rogues jumped towards them and attacked.

Caroline and Daniel were well trained and they fought the three wolves effortlessly but as soon as they killed them, five more came towards them from the cave. Caroline was still in human form and Daniel in wolf. The 5 rogues were bigger in size and stronger but Cary and Danny were still standing their ground. 

Two more wolves were killed and five more joined the other three that were still alive. The betta and luna were heavily outnumbered and the rogues were able to land some hits and bites on both of them. For one killed rogue 3 more came out until Daniel and Caroline were surrounded by 15 wolves, stronger than ordinary rogues.

A few rogues in human form joined and as soon as they got close to the betta and luna they plunged silver knives into their hearts. Silver was dangerous for werewolves and deadly if it reached their heart.
