Chapter 2 : Deathman lives

2956 Words
Daniela's POV : The big day came and we made our way to the mystery sky resort. I didn't pay too much attention to the road, because I didn't have to drive. Even though I liked driving, dad was okay with taking the trip into his own competent hands.  I offered to take the drive back as a compensation.  But now my hands were free. No necessary concentration required. Hurray for me.  After I made myself comfortable on the backseat I removed my headphones from my bag and opened favourite playlist on Spotify. The tunes drew me to a peaceful slumber. Why not? It's holiday. Time to relax and forget all the work to be done after the return home. No, bad girl! No thinking about that!  Eva sat beside me and posted tons of pics to her followers. Not really mine style.  We are exactly model of two opposite people who fit together perfectly. Eva is full of life, joy and enjoys so called publicity. She is making her own blog about clothes, makeup and fashion. Hanging out with just as many people as possible on any social event is everything for her.  I on the other hand, am better walking unnoticed. The silent observer. That's me. I like everything under control. No need to fell head first. Everything needs to be properly thought out. Just my time for waking up doesn't fit in my schedule. Whatever.  Back to our friendship. We are like fire and water but together we are perfect. Our bond is unbreakable. Nothing can separate us. No that we are homo or anything. We are just the best from best friends. Period.  After dad cut of the engine I cracked one eye open to look where the navigation took us. I have to say. Not bad! Everywhere around piles of beautiful white snow. The trees looked like cut out of winter fairytale.  I must say, the place made a high impression on me. After we entered the lobby the staff instantly took our luggage and took us to our rooms. I shared a room with Eva. We didn't came on a man hunting mission, even though I must admit that I am not sure if Eva knows it. I personally came for ski and snowboarding, so a few minutes after we arrived I made my way down to the piste. It was already late afternoon, but the shops for borrowing a ski was open. These time luck was on my side. Good for me. I made myself ready but after just first ride I found it lonely. I was alone up here.  Mum and dad said they need a little break for catching breath and Eva let me down for a video to her followers. This way I made a few rides and made my way back to the hotel room. In winter, nights came quickly and are long. So we made ourselves comfortable in the hotels restaurant and called for an early night.  The next day I beeped with enthusiasm. Today I should call it a really special day because I woke up early. A good inspiration can make wonders. Eva didn't get time to even put her stupid phone down from the charger and I already pulled her out of our room.  Everything gone smoothly just to the moment till it began to snow. First part of the day was okay but in the afternoon came the adventure.  Dad warned me but I wanted to show him my capability. "It's beginning to snow and if the night falls you can lightly got lost."  I promised him to be on our best behavior. Not to say we are adults and brilliant brains. I know, my ego won the fight between my head. But I wanted adventure and I got more than I bargained for.  After a few rides down the hill Eva suggested to play chasing each other.  I clearly had to chase. But she played dirty and made her way out of the piste. She avoided trees and bushes like a master but I was breathing on her neck. The race lasted till the sundown. We really forgot where we are. The reality hit us just when we found out we are lost. The sun was already settling and the snowflakes were thicker and thicker.  Okay. We messed out. Property. Now I know how wrong I have been. I promised to act like an adult and here we are. Lost like little kids. "s**t! This is not good. Time to turn around and made our way back to the resort."  I'm not a coward but this suck. Eva on the other side did find this a cool adventure. "Did you pee in your pants already? It's definitely not so bad. We can go a little bit further and find a road or a village. I can't see any problem."  For me it wasn't the best solution but I obeyed. We turned left though a notch. The road went straight for twenty meters then spun and gone more flatland. We ended on the other side of the notch and sharply turned right on a narrow road. I shivered. The trees perk above us and I felt uneasy. Then the way began to go up and the trees became thinner. A surprising view made me gasp. Something around hundred meters before us was an old spooky castle. From three directions his only neighbour was the forest. But one side stood out on a rocky pit. "Wooooaaaa, spooky. Time to get going."  Eva spun on her heel and tried to run away but I was quicker. I grabbed her by her jacket. "Hey,what do u think you are doing? No f*****g way am I going not even one step nearer. That thing gives me creeps!"  "You are the one who wanted adventure. So shut up. It's already dark and through the snow we won't be able to see much either. If you want to go, be my guest. But I'm going to stay the night here. It's not a hotel but it will work."  First she looked like she was ready to make her leave, but then she sighed.  " If the thing falls down on my head and you survive. Memorise my words: I'm going to haunt you for the rest of your life. " I tried hard not to laugh at her threat but then my focus jumped to the beauty before me. I know, I know. What could be beautiful on an old pile of rocks and bricks? Point taken, but it somehow took my heart and tried to pull me in. It felt terribly wrong and right at the same time. Like in a trance my feet moved automatically. Like if they knew their way. I stepped through the border into the center of the courtyard. My eyes scanned the surroundings. Somehow I just didn't see the old walls with holes made by weather, dark ghostly windows or round towers' rooftops with broken tiles. I've seen it in its magnificent beauty at the time when it was full of people and the master took care of it.  My oh my…. I think it's time to stop reading historic romances. The next time my imagination is going to dress me in a gown. Time to go back to reality. I walked the last few steps to the big old wooden door. There was no handle so I just pushed it open. I stepped inside and a heavy air of rot and mold made my eyes water. My head automatically turned around to get a breath of fresh air and I found out that Eva didn't follow me but stayed at the entrance to the borders. I waved my hands to call her in. Reluctantly she came. "Now can we go?" she asked.  My mouth made a crooked smile. Even though that I knew she wanted to go away, I nod my head and began my way up the big stairs. At the top I took the middle hallway. I don't know how but I just somehow knew that left and right were the guests wings and this way leads to the master bedroom. Another double wing door and I got in. Here it looked pretty different then the rest of the castle. If you didn't count the amount of dust. Victorian romance begins! Am I loosing my mind? Perfectly furnished room. Before my face stands a massive oak desk with big upholstered chair. At the left side is a bookshelf with a settee before a fireplace. Another side occupies big four poster bed.  "Now what do you think about it?"  I had to laugh. Eva's eyes went out of sockets and her mouth hang open nearly to the floor. This made my day.  She quickly got over herself and run to the setee. First she dusted it off and then she lightly sat down. No breaking sound so she bounced a little bit. My focus got something else. I walked over to the big mahogany writing table. On it stood a little metallic statue. It looked like a man with arms holding high to the sky, maybe praying. My hand glided over the surface. The structure was smooth but with delicate details. Then my hand found a rough spot. I wanted to look at it closely but Eva's voice made me interrupt my plan.  "Think we could make a fire in here?" and she padded the fireplace.  "Bad idea. The chimney could be stuffy. We could suffocate here."  "Oh, that's a shame."  Back to my statue. My fingers trail over the spot and I bow to look better. A click pierced the silence and the statue changed posture. But that wasn't all. Behind the bookshelf a secret door came open. Eva didn't wait and run in.  "Come! There can be a hidden treasure." she waved at me.  To tell the true. I was curious, but something encouraged me to look back. When I looked at the statue a shiver run down by back. Now the statue looked totally evil. Like if now it was praying down to the hell. " Dani! You must see this!"  That was Eva. Or better to say her head. She just peeped out from the secret passage and again was gone. One foot after the another I made my way after her. The corridor was slim enough just for one person. The smooth floor changed into narrow staircase down towards the ground. First there was no light and I had to use my phone as a flashlight but then I saw a flickering light from a torch. As the stairs continued deeper into the ground, more and more torches came into the view. A while later I came to Eva and the end of the tunnel. I stepped to her and found myself in round room. Walls, floor, and the ceiling was made of gray stone and the only piece of "furniture" contained a sarcophagus occupying the centre of the room. Big surprise, it too was made of gray stone. She didn't lost her enthusiasm and already tried to read the signs on it. Another surprise, no luck.  "Why are you just standing there?! Come and help me to open it!"  My brows jumped up my forehead. I loved her but right now she really searched for trouble. "Are you serious?! I'm not interested in an old mummy! But to tell the truth. I've been drawn to it. Right and wrong at the same time. I felt torn. "  "That is correct. It doesn't. Who would want to be buried in his own house? And more suspicious. The entrance secretly begins in the master bedroom. THAT, really isn't right. What if it is just a camouflage?"  She had a point in there. But my gut told me something different. Whatever. Curiosity won and I went to help her to push the cover open. We pushed and pushed but it had to be stuck. Than it opened just a tiny bit and after another push the cover fell to the ground. I was the first who peeped in. My breath got stuck and I felt like ready to throw up. Through my foggy brain I heard Eva scream. After a few steady breaths I began to focus back.  Inside was lying a man. His age should be around thirty-five to forty. Long dark hair bound into a ponytail. High cheekbones. Aristocratic nose. Full lips. Slim figure dressed in old style black but elegant clothing. From the first sight he looked like he was just sleeping. Just the whiteness of his skin told something different. "Now it's really time to go."  Eva grabbed my hand, turned around and dragged my out. We just made a few steps and fire in the torches flickered. Just as it got back to normal my eyes fell back to the sarcophagus. I must be dreaming. This definitely must be a dream. A very bad bream. Better to say a nightmare. The tomb was empty. Nothing. None. Zero. Free to use….  My internal babbling stopped after Eva begant to yank my sleeve. I turned to her but found her white like a ghost and trembling from fear. Can't blame her. As I turned I saw the gorgeous man staring at me with a predatory smirk. Yeah, now I believe he looked better when he was death. Glowing red eyes and white long incisors. Real dating type. "Oh, what a lovely company. I must thank you ladies, for freeing me from my prison. But please understand, after four and a half century I'm not really chatty. I have to admit. I'm a bit thirsty."  He licked his sharp teeth and slowly began to move towards us.  Did he believe that I am so stupid to stand there and wait for him? Hell no! I grabbed Eva by the hand and tried to get out of there. But I need to add. He isn't stupid either. s**t!  " No, no, no my dear. There isn't a way out. Just be a good girl and submit to me. It will hurt just a little bit, I think."  "Sure think mister but just in your stupid dreams."  Note to myself. I should learn when to shut my mouth because this really pissed him off. He bared his teeth at me and jumped into the air towards us. I pushed Eva behind me and automatically crossed my arms before my face in defence and waited for pain. But it didn't came. Instead I heard a thud. I let my hands fell back down and looked what was going on. The vampire… Now I was sure it was one… The vampire lied on the floor opposite of us. "You!" And he pointed his finger directly on me. "You will have the privilege to be the first! I swear it!"  Then he stood up and run at me again. This time I saw it all. I didn't even blink to be sure to catch everything. When he got nearly half a meter to me he ram into some kind of invisible barrier and it threw him again back on the same spot. He growled like an animal and stood up again. Now he approached slowly. When just a metre of distance separated us he outstretched hand. It happened again. Now he didn't fly through the room, but it looked like he burned his hand because he pull it back and blew air at it. " Are you a witch or what?"  A plan was already created in my mind. So I pushed the insult away and gave him a cocky grin.  "No buster, but I'm a hell of a nightmare." This time I was the one who run to him. I must say. It worked perfectly. The barrier threw him again into the air but this time I made sure that his fall ended in the right place. Just at the moment he slam into the sarcophagus I came to the cover and pushed with all of my strength.  "What are you waiting for? ! Help me!!"  I yelled at Eva. She jumped to my side and we made it again. This time in the right way. But we didn't waste not even a second more in this place. We run out as if all the hell was chasing us. Good comparison because it nearly was. Out of the crypt. Then out of the master bedroom and the castle. We didn't thought where we were going. The only thing that mattered was the distance. The bigger the better. After a little while we really made it into a village. It wasn't a big one. There were just a dozen of little cottages in the middle of nothingness. I didn't talk to Eva. I just automatically took the matters into my hands and knocked on the door of the nearest cottage.  An old woman opened the door.  "Who are you and what do you want?"  Not a friendly welcome but it must do. I took a breath and began: "Good evening. We are sorry to disturb you but we got lost in the woods. We are tourists from the hotel up the hill. Please can you help us?"  She measured us from head to toe and to my surprise she didn't invite us in but came out and made her way through the village.  " Come!" She took us into a log cabin for woodcutters. We got an oil lamp and a box of matches from her to make ourselves comfortable. Then she leaved to inform the mayor of the village. She told us that he can alert the hotel through walkie-talkie that we are safe.  We fought hard with the fireplace. I must say I never tried to made fire so it was a challenge. First the fire was winning but to the end the duel changed to our victory. Exhausted we ate a piece of bread and cheese which brought the old woman with the news of mornings drive back to hotel.  My brain couldn't take any further informations and just shut me out. I fell asleep before my head hit the temporary made pillow.
