She Returned

1004 Words
When Georgia and Annabeth arrived at the busy airport in New York, Georgia couldn't help but note how people turned their heads to wave at Annabeth as they passed by. My daughter is not just smart, she's also got a natural charm, and her beauty is also a head turner. I noticed a few boys around her age looking at her wistfully inside the airport. Annabeth smiled and shook hands with the adults who held out a hand to her, and even let them pick her up and muss her long hair. Georgia knew that her daughter could be a professional model in the near future. A child model, as she had the natural talent for it. Georgia took out her phone, and hailed a taxi to take her to the affordable apartment she just rented in advance yesterday, located at Staten Island. It was the only affordable and available apartment that she found while searching online, so Georgia took the offer from the agent immediately. Georgia looked around at the bustling city of New York. The city of her youth, where she was born and raised, then abruptly left when the wedding was called off. And now she's back. Georgia still remembered the past, but all of that didn't matter now. Georgia resolved to live for herself, and provide as best as she could to ensure her daughter's future from now on. She knew that Ferdinand must have married Francine by now. Georgia paid the taxi driver, then she went to the apartment she paid for. Georgia settled into the apartment. Georgia bought comfortable second-hand furniture and other tools she needed for use in the apartment, then spent the next three days applying for work online, sending emails, hoping and praying that she would somehow get a job interview and get accepted. Georgia also knew that she needed to enroll her daughter in an affordable private school in New York. Not the expensive ones, where fancy rich kids go to school, but some school that would just be the right fit for her daughter. Meanwhile, Ferdinand Darcey sat down in front of the desk inside his office, his furrows creased, the expression on his face blank as he was sunk deep in thought. Georgia was back in New York, along with her daughter, Annabeth. Ferdinand knew Annabeth's real father. The real father was Levi McCormick, the CEO of Evolve Technologies, his business rival. Ferdinand still remembered the video-call war of words that happened between Ferdinand and Levi, four years ago, as if it was just an event that happened yesterday. It was still fresh in his memory, and Levi's sharp jokes, quick wit, and bold mockery still stung him after all those years, with each joke sharper than the last. Ferdinand still hadn't forgiven Georgia and Levi for the cheating that happened the night before he and Georgia were supposed to be wed. He plotted how to make Georgia's life, and Ferdinand's life, a living hell. Ferdinand knew Georgia needed to find a job to support herself and her child in the long run. Georgia even applied for Senior Graphic Designer in his company. The HR invited Georgia for an interview, but Ferdinand, as the CEO, overrode the HR and sent Georgia an email that said there's no available hiring right now in Matrix Systems. That's my own small way of getting back at you for what you did a few years ago, Georgia. Ferdinand thought after he hit send on the rejection email without even thinking twice. But unbeknownst to him, Georgia was invited for an interview by the HR of Evolve Technologies. Meanwhile, in the CEO's office at Evolve Technologies, Levi McCormick sat in front of his desk, his hands busily typing on the computer. He had a lot of official papers to finish. He didn't know that he got Georgia pregnant the night they made love at a party a few years ago. So, Georgia has returned to New York, and applied for a senior graphic designer position in my company, eh? Her resume is truly impressive. She was one of the best graphic designers in Digital Tech, before DigitalTech got sold to a new owner. Let's see if she will ace the interview with the HR tomorrow or not. Meanwhile, back in Georgia's apartment, she received an email invitation for a walk-in interview for the senior graphic designer job position in Evolve Technologies one night while she was checking her emails after she put Annabeth to bed, and they had finished eating dinner. Evolve Technologies? That's one of the best digital marketing companies in New York right now. I heard they offer good pay, and even better benefits to highly skilled top performers who get fired or terminated by other companies. I'll do my best in the interview the next day. Georgia prepared her laptop in advance, made sure her portable internet modem was filled with data, and prepared her 64 GB USB, where she stored a lot of her previous graphic design portfolio. She knew the interviewer would require her to show her portfolio, and Georgia didn't want to flunk the interview. She went to rest early, and prepared the clothes she would wear for the interview the next day. The next day, she went to the interview dressed in smart office casual clothes, with her laptop, USB drive, and portable modem ready in her shoulder bag. She passed the brief trial tasks that the HR asked her to do, before doing her interview. A few hours later, at around 3:00 pm, she got a text message stating that she passed the interview, and that she was asked to report for work immediately the next day on a regular day shift. I saw Levi McCormick come and go outside the company headquarters of Evolve Technologies frequently. So the news was true that he also built his company from the ground up. A lot has changed since I last saw him, and made love with him at the party.
