Cinderella Episode 3 – Midnight Sparks

1116 Words
The ballroom shimmered like a dream wrapped in gold. Crystal lights dripped from the ceiling, reflecting on marble floors where every guest looked like they belonged in a fairytale—except the girl in the silver dress who had borrowed time. Cinderella paused at the top of the grand staircase, her heart racing faster than the music. She had never seen so many diamonds, cameras, and famous faces in one place. Everything about the scene screamed luxury—the scent of roses, the flash of champagne glasses, the hum of conversations that paused as soon as she walked in. She didn’t realize it, but for that single second, she became the center of the room. The prince—known to the world as Ethan Hale, the heir to Hale Enterprises—turned at the exact moment she stepped into the light. He wasn’t wearing a crown, but the way people looked at him made it clear he didn’t need one. A tall figure in a tailored black suit, dark eyes that saw too much, and a quiet confidence that felt dangerous. Their eyes met across the room, and it was like the world tilted for both of them. Cinderella tried to look away, pretending to admire a painting, but Ethan was already walking toward her. Every step he took made her pulse quicker. She wasn’t supposed to be here—this was her one night of freedom, her escape from endless chores, broken shoes, and cruel words. But the way his gaze lingered on her made her forget all that. When he finally reached her, his voice was low and smooth. “I don’t think I’ve seen you here before.” Cinderella swallowed hard. “Maybe that’s because I don’t belong here.” Ethan smiled faintly. “You do tonight.” Her breath caught. The band changed to a slower melody, and he held out his hand. “Dance with me.” She hesitated—then placed her hand in his. His touch was warm, steady, and it felt like stepping into something she’d dreamed of but never thought real. As they moved across the floor, the crowd faded. The lights dimmed, and it felt like only the two of them existed. His hand rested at her waist, firm but gentle. Her silver heels glided like she’d been born to do this. “You’re not like anyone I’ve met here,” Ethan said softly, eyes studying her face. “That’s because I’m not like anyone here,” she whispered, trying to hide her smile. He chuckled. “You’re mysterious.” “And you’re too confident,” she replied, tilting her head. “Guilty,” he said. “But for the first time, I’m curious about someone who doesn’t seem impressed.” Cinderella met his eyes, her voice almost a whisper. “Maybe I’m just impressed by different things.” Something shifted between them then—a quiet intensity. The air grew heavier, charged. He twirled her slowly under the light, his gaze never leaving her. “Who are you, really?” he asked, his tone softer now. She wanted to tell him everything—her name, her struggles, the cruel laughter she left behind tonight—but she couldn’t. Midnight was ticking closer, and she knew this moment couldn’t last. “Maybe I’ll tell you someday,” she said instead. Ethan smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes. “Then I’ll have to find you again.” The music ended, but he didn’t let go. For a long second, they just stood there, hearts syncing with the rhythm of something that didn’t need words. Then someone called his name from across the room—one of his associates, reminding him of his world, the one she didn’t belong to. Cinderella took a small step back. “You should go,” she said softly. “I don’t want to,” he admitted. “But you will,” she murmured. Before he could respond, she turned and slipped through the crowd. He followed, but she was already halfway to the door. Outside, the night air was cool against her skin, the city lights stretching endlessly like stars. She ran, her heart thundering. Behind her, Ethan stepped into the empty courtyard just in time to see the shimmer of her silver dress disappear into a waiting car. Something sparkled on the ground—a delicate crystal earring. He picked it up, the faintest trace of her perfume still clinging to it. “Cinderella,” he whispered, as if saying her name could bring her back. ⸻ Hours later, Cinderella leaned against her tiny apartment’s window, the city still glowing below. The music from the party still echoed in her mind, and her heart refused to slow down. She pulled off her other earring and stared at it, realizing one was gone. Of course, she thought with a tired laugh. It felt almost poetic. For once, though, she didn’t feel invisible. Someone had looked at her and seen more than a maid, more than a girl lost in everyone else’s shadow. Down in his penthouse, Ethan held the earring, scrolling through every security feed, every guest list. He didn’t even know her name—but he couldn’t forget her face. “She’s not on the list,” his assistant said. “She wasn’t supposed to be,” Ethan replied, a small smile curving his lips. “But I’ll find her.” ⸻ Days passed. Cinderella returned to her ordinary world—washing dishes, folding laundry, listening to her stepsisters brag about the party she’d secretly attended. But inside, something had changed. She found herself daydreaming while sweeping, smiling at memories that felt like a dream. Then one morning, the neighborhood buzzed with news: Hale Enterprises was holding a charity gala to support young entrepreneurs—and anyone could apply to attend. Her friend Maya, the only one who knew her secret, grinned as they read the announcement. “He’s doing this for you. I swear he is.” Cinderella laughed, but her heart raced. Could it really be possible? She didn’t have the courage to believe it, but her hands trembled as she filled out the application. That night, as she lay in bed, the moonlight touched her face through the cracked window. She whispered to herself, “If it’s meant to be, he’ll find me.” And somewhere across the city, Ethan looked out over the skyline, the single earring still in his hand. He didn’t know her name. He didn’t know her story. But he knew one thing—he wasn’t going to stop until he found the girl who had stolen his heart in a single dance.
