Cinderella Episode 4 – The Search Begins

892 Words
The city hummed with life, but for Cinderella, the streets felt emptier than ever. Her heart still thumped from the night of the party, from the dance that had changed something inside her. She had no idea that Ethan Hale—the man who had held her hand and made the world disappear for a moment—was already searching for her. The morning after the gala announcement, she sat at her small kitchen table, sipping coffee, trying to focus on her chores, her dreams, her life. But every thought kept wandering back to him. Who is he really? she wondered. Why do I feel like he’s different from everyone I’ve ever met? Meanwhile, across town, Ethan was already in motion. He had scoured security footage from the gala, the party, even the streets around the venue. He asked his assistants to cross-check guest lists, emails, anything that could lead him to the girl in the silver dress. “She’s not on any list,” one of them said, frustration creeping into his tone. Ethan didn’t flinch. “Then she shouldn’t be that hard to find. People like her leave traces.” Back in her apartment, Cinderella tried to bury herself in her routine. Her stepsisters were blissfully unaware that she had been at the party, and her mother continued to treat her as invisible. But the memory of Ethan’s touch, his gaze, his whispered words, haunted her. She knew the world they lived in was different. He was wealthy, public, and untouchable; she was… herself. Ordinary, unseen. Days passed. Each morning, she read about Hale Enterprises, saw his picture in the news, felt the weight of a connection she couldn’t name. And then, the invitation arrived. Cinderella held the envelope in her hands, her pulse quickening. It was embossed with gold lettering. Hale Enterprises Charity Gala – Open Invitation. She stared at it, trembling. Is this fate? Or a trap? Her best friend, Maya, squealed when she saw the invitation. “This is it! You have to go! He’s looking for you!” “I… I can’t,” Cinderella whispered, fear and excitement battling in her chest. “What if he doesn’t even recognize me?” Maya rolled her eyes. “He will. He saw you. And trust me, Baby Girl, he won’t forget.” After much hesitation, Cinderella decided she couldn’t ignore this chance. She would go—but on her terms. She couldn’t let him see the girl who did laundry, who was invisible every day. She had to be someone else, someone confident, radiant, and mysterious—just like he remembered. ⸻ That night, she arrived at the gala in a deep navy gown, her hair styled elegantly, a mask covering the upper half of her face. She looked around nervously, hoping he wouldn’t notice immediately. But Ethan’s gaze found her the instant she stepped into the hall. Time seemed to freeze again, the world shrinking until it was just the two of them. He moved through the crowd, a silent force, until he stopped in front of her. “I knew it was you,” he said, his voice low, tinged with awe. Cinderella’s heart leapt. She tilted her mask. “You do?” Ethan smiled, the kind that made her knees weak. “I’ve been looking for you. I didn’t know it would be this easy… or this difficult.” Her pulse quickened. “Difficult?” “Because now I want to know everything about you. But I feel like there’s more than just tonight.” The music swelled, and he extended his hand. “Dance with me again?” She hesitated, the world outside the gala forgotten. Finally, she placed her hand in his. And once more, as they moved across the polished floor, the universe seemed to bend, shrinking the room until only their hearts were in motion. As they danced, Ethan whispered, “Tell me your name.” She shook her head, playful and teasing. “Not yet. Maybe someday.” He laughed softly. “Then I’ll have to find out. And I don’t give up easily.” ⸻ The gala continued, but they existed in their own bubble. Whispered words, shared smiles, stolen glances. Every moment drew them closer, yet the mask of mystery remained. After the dance, he leaned closer. “You’re incredible,” he murmured. “But why hide from me?” Cinderella looked away, torn between desire and fear. “Because… some truths aren’t ready yet.” Ethan’s eyes softened. “Then I’ll wait. But not forever.” She laughed softly, a sound that made him want to hear it again and again. Outside, the night was cool, full of stars and possibility. And somewhere in the city, Ethan knew this was only the beginning. He would uncover every secret, every hidden layer of this mysterious girl who had stolen his heart in one unforgettable night. Cinderella returned to her apartment, heart racing, torn between fear and anticipation. She had experienced magic—but she had also tasted the danger of desire. The earring she had lost at the first party still sat on her dresser, a reminder of him, a promise that their worlds would collide again. And as she drifted to sleep, she whispered to herself, “I hope he finds me… but not too soon.”
