Tell Me There's Coffee

998 Words
*Monroe's POV* Once we make it to my place, I help them both take off their makeup and change into pajamas and get them into bed, leaving water and painkillers on each of their night stands. When I crawl into bed, my head is still buzzing a little from the alcohol and I can’t stop thinking about the way my body felt when Cade kissed me. Never before has a kiss had that kind of effect on me. I think about how good his body felt against mine and I fall asleep dreaming about him. When I wake up the next morning I see that it’s almost 8:30 and I thank myself for turning off my alarm last night. Stretching and yawning, I extract myself from the covers and hear the dogs groan as they spread out. I make my way into the kitchen to start up the coffee maker. If I’m in need of caffeine, Maddy and Charlie definitely will be when they wake up. I open up the i********: app on my phone to find several new followers, all from school. I assume they found me through Maddy’s post. I follow back the ones I recognize from classes and then scroll through my feed to find that most of the posts are from the party last night. Typical. When the coffee is finally ready, I bring a mug with me to the couch, snuggle up in the corner seat of the sectional and throw on some more Grey’s.  A couple episodes later, I hear a door open and Charlie comes out of the room rubbing her eyes. She groans and I giggle and say, coffee is on the counter. She grabs herself a mug and then comes to sit beside me and says, “Ugh, I am never drinking again.” “Lies!” I say and she laughs and says, “Yeah, you’re right. I probably will.” Just as she takes a sip of her coffee, Maddy emerges, hair sticking up in all kinds of directions.  “Dear lord, I think I’m dying. Please tell me there’s coffee.” I laugh and point to the counter. She grabs a mug and then comes to sit on my other side.  “What happened last night? I remember playing truth or dare and then doing a bunch of vodka shots with Charlie and then everything after that is a blur. Why did we think that was a good idea?” She asks Charlie. Charlie shrugs and says, “I have no clue.” She turns to me and asks, “Wait how come you seem so alive right now? Do you remember what happened?” “I’m so alive because you bitches drank all the voda without me,” I joke. “After truth or dare, I went to refill my drink and have a smoke and when I came back 10 minutes later you two were obliterated. I talked you into having water by telling you there was vodka in it, gave you some chips and then called us an uber, helped you get your makeup off and put you both to bed.” “Oh my god, you’re incredible. What would we do without you?”  “You would probably be passed out on Mackenzie’s lawn with chips stuck in your hair,” I tease. They both laugh and then sip their coffee. I see Maddy thinking hard about something before she hits me and says, “Wait a minute! Why are we not discussing your little make out session with Xander?!”  “Oh yeah!” Charlie exclaims. I groan. “I was hoping you would forget about that bit.” “So?! How was it?! It seemed like you both enjoyed yourselves.” “I mean it was fine. He’s a good kisser, but,” I hesitate and Maddy looks at me expectantly. “But what?” f**k it, I might as well tell them. Maybe they’ll have some insight into what to do about this whole Cade situation. “But making out with Cade was significantly better,” I say quickly. Their jaws drop open and Maddy says, “Shut up! When did that happen? Tell us EVERYTHING.” As I explain the porch make out session and then every subsequent interaction with Cade and Xander, they continue to look at me in shock.  “So, wait, do you like him like him?” Maddy asks. “I have literally no clue. I barely know anything about the guy. All I know is that I’m not imagining the way my body reacts to him. Maybe I should just f**k him and get it out of my system?” They look to each other and then Maddy says, “It might be worth a shot, but that’s kind of a dangerous game. Especially with a guy like that. Also, what about Xander? I’m not convinced he doesn’t have feelings for you and with him being Cade’s best friend and all, it could get messy.” She makes a good point. “Hm, yeah, you’re right. So I have to sort out the Xander thing first and then figure out the Cade situation. Any ideas on how to go about that?” Charlie says, “I mean, you could just have a conversation with him.” I sigh and say, “I was afraid you would say that.” The three of us spend the rest of the day curled up on the couch watching chick flicks and eating junk food. Maddy’s mom called her and told her to be home for dinner, so they leave around 4pm and I spend the rest of the evening stressing myself out about Cade and Xander.
