Working at the dealership sucked. Luke cleaned other people's cars for four hours and spent the rest of the day fetching things for guys in bad suits. He stopped into his uncle's office to thank him anyway before leaving. It did not escape Luke's reality that Joe helped him out more than he had to.
“Hey, I'm headed outta here unless you need me to do anything else.”
“Nah, I think you're good to go. But close the door for just a minute.” Luke forced a relaxed look onto his face and closed the door, steeling himself for the inevitable talk about his mother. “So, did you find out what was going on with the job? I left her three voicemails and five texts. Shockingly, Mel is ignoring me.”
