Chapter 3

Genevieve “WHERE.HAVE.YOU.BEEN?!!” Ferdie was raising his voice and I was blinking my eyes with each word he says. “Uhm- Ferdie, I was---“ “Do you have any idea how worried I was? I thought you girls were kidnapped or killed or….or… or….raped.” I felt a lump in my throat hearing the word r**e. I wasn’t exactly r***d because from what I remember, I—I – I asked for it? Shivers. God, I feel such a---- “Are you listening to me GENEVIEVE?!!” I blink my eyes and take a step back when Ferdie raises his voice again. Damn. He’s really angry. I’ve never seen him this angry before. “Ferdie calm down.” Ferdie rolls his eyes at me then he starts the engine taking us home. Ferdie said my sisters are sleeping inside the yacht earlier. I enter the room and saw them sleeping soundly but something’s not right. Their hairs are all messy and they’re not wearing their clothes properly. They can’t be---we can’t be---- I shouldn’t be thinking about these things. Maybe they were just too drunk and they danced all night which made them look like that. I shook my head and when I catch a glimpse of my clothes I blink my eyes. Looking down I realize I’m wearing a different shirt and slippers? What? I turn my body around to see if I got a change of clothes inside the yacht but Veronica’s voice stops me. “Evie? What are you doing?” I hear her ask with her voice hoarse and obviously still sleepy. “Are we home yet?” I bite my lip and squeeze my eyes shut when I hear Steff’s voice. “Evie? Were you wearing a man’s clothes last night?” oh no. Seriously Xia? Do you really have to voice it out? “O.M.G.” my eyes were wide when I turn around. I rush to Veronica’s side to cover her mouth and prevent her from screaming. “Shh. Ferdie might hear you. He was too mad at me that he didn’t notice my clothes when I came.” I made my voice as soft as possible that’s enough for the three of them to hear. I remove my hand from Veronica’s mouth when I see her eyes glistening with happiness and pride? What is she so proud about? “You better tell us the details later sis.” Veronica says. Can’t she see that I am not that ecstatic to talk about it? We heard the engine stops which only means that we have arrived home. I turn my back to walk out of the room but Veronica stops me. “Wait, Evie.” I turn my head to look at her then she ties the loose shirt behind me turning it into a crop top. “We don’t want Ferdie to ask questions now, are we? We are the only ones who will do the questioning.” I feel myself shivering as I look at Veronica’s evil smirk. She is scary and she’s only second youngest. We walk out of the yacht together with Ferdie ignoring us. Did we really mess up last night? Well, he and Tom sneak out on us and left us aren’t they a little bit at fault? I look back to see what Ferdie is doing and he seems to be cleaning the yacht, it’s not like we messed up the place. I turn my head back and my eyes grow wide when I see guards waiting for us. “Did you enjoy your yacht party princesses?” wait, what? I glance at my sister Veronica and winks at me. One of the butlers opens the car door for us and taking us back to the White Mansion. On our way back, I still can’t understand what that butler said about a yacht party? Since when did we have a yacht party? “V, what do they mean about a yacht party?” I whisper in Veronica’s ear. “I asked Tom and Ferdie to hire men to act as bodyguards and women to impersonate us. I had the yacht visible to the guards so they’ll see us having yacht party with bodyguards watching us.” Uh-huh. That was a clever idea but way too obvious. “And they believed it? Because if they did they’d be so stupid.” I bet the guards knew they were fake and that we sneaked out. “They got no choice but to believe it. Even if they learned that we were trying to fool them, they can’t do anything about it because they don’t know where we were so the least they could is to believe so they won’t lose their job.” I still don’t get it but as long as we didn’t get into trouble then it’s fine. I open the car window and I see the farmers in their fields. “STOP the car.” When the car stops I walk out and went to the driver. “Go on ahead. I still need to check on the fields.” “But they have prepared breakfast----“ “Just go. I’ll be there for breakfast right after visiting the farmers.” The car started moving again and one of the bodyguards stays behind to watch over me. Why am I not surprised? I see one of the farmers cleaning his field of vegetable but I think there’s something wrong. “Princess Genevieve. What brought you here this early in the morning?” the farmer asks taking his hat off and bow his head. “What happened to your lettuces Mr. Finley?” when I was riding the car I knew the lettuces look different from afar and when I get to look at it, it’s filled with holes which only means that there are pests. If we don’t fix this, then then it will spread all over Genovia. “Worms, princess.” “Don’t worry Mr. Finley. The Farmers Association, have pesticides that you can use and after that make sure you take good care of your lettuces. Try to check your other vegetables if they haven’t been contaminated by any other pests. And………” I look around his field and my eyes land on his goat not so far from his vegetable field. “I suggest you move your goat farther away from your vegetables. You might wake up one morning and find them all gone. Scarecrows can be useful to drive birds away if they ever try to tamper your fields.” “Thank you so much for your assistance princess.” Mr. Finley bows his head again and it makes me smile that I was able to help him. “You are what makes Genovia what it is and it is my job to assist you. I shall get going Mr. Finley, I still need to visit the other fields, see if their crops are okay.” Mr. Finley waves his hand goodbye and I wave my hands at him as I left. My bodyguard walks behind me as I made my way to the next field. I inhale the air and it’s very calming. “Princess, you are going to visit all the farmlands in Genovia?” I hear my bodyguard ask. “Yes, why?” “Then I shall ask one of the butlers to bring us a car so we could drive you to your destination.” Shaking my head in disapproval I reply, “I want to walk because it makes me see the beauty of Genovia. If you don’t want to walk with me, I can go alone.” “I can’t let you go alone, princess.” There you have it. I know how you want your job. I want to tell him that but I should keep my thoughts to myself. The strawberry field is in sight and I can’t help but run towards the field. I see Grandpa Ben and the rest of the farmers plowing the soil that expands the strawberry fields of Genovia. “Princess Evie?” “Lady Evie.” “M’lady, you are here.” I bite when the farmers notice my presence. When I turn to look at Grandpa Ben I see him still busy with his work. So I place a finger on my mouth to tell them to be quiet. There are farming tools behind Grandpa Ben so I sneakily take a rake and help him plow the soil. “Princess Evie, what are you doing? You shouldn’t be doing that.” Grandpa Ben tries to snatch the rake away from me but I lift the rake away from his reach. “Grandpa, I didn’t get to help you with your harvest yesterday so at least I could help you with the plowing. I’ve done this before grandpa. This is what I studied about and I told you to call me Evie.” I can still see the hesitation in Grandpa’s eyes but he knows how stubborn I am. I continue to plow the land and Grandpa has no choice but to join in with me. “How’s the factory going Grandpa?” “I haven’t heard from the factory yet but they were so happy when we delivered the strawberries yesterday. Apparently, there’s a high demand for strawberry jams. We were able to meet all the orders but there are only a few strawberries left to be sold in the Genovia public market.” Sigh. That has been our problem for so long. There’s a high demand for strawberries but we can barely supply the demands. “That is why we are thankful that you proposed expansion of the strawberry fields. This is already our second expansion. Thank you, Evie.” I know how much this means to them. Farming is their life and they are the life of Genovia or at least that’s how I see it. Genovia will continue to grow will all their efforts. ~~~~~ With everyone’s help, we were able to plow the land that has been part of the expansion of the field. It’s almost lunchtime and I am resting with the rest of the farmers when my bodyguard calls for me. “Princess.” I turn my head to look at him and raise my eyebrows.” “Your sisters are waiting for you in your room.” What? Why? What could be the problem---Oh shoot. I jump up and face the farmers, “I wish I could help you more but my sisters need me.” “It’s alright, princess.” “Yes, you’ve already helped us a lot.” “Thank you for your time, princess.” I look at Grandpa Ben and he nods his head to me. “Careful on your way home, child.” “Thank you Grandpa.” My bodyguard and I run as we left the field. When we reach the road, car’s already waiting for me. When we reach the car, the butler opens the door for me. Fifteen minutes later I can already see the top of the White Mansion. The car enters the gates and a few minutes more before finally reaching our destination. The butler opens the door for me and few of our attendants were there to greet me. “Princess Genevieve, your sisters are waiting for you inside your room. They have requested to bring food inside your room.” one of the attendants informs me. “They? Or Veronica did?” the attendant didn’t say a word of response but the small smile on her face answers it. “Can you bring bottles of champagne in my room? Maybe later this evening after dinner? My fridge has ran out. On second thought, maybe tomorrow?” Don’t judge me. Drinking champagne underneath the stars is my secret pleasure. It has always been. “As you wish, princess.” The attendants scatter around to do their chores while I walk straight to my room. I am standing in front of my door and I can hear giggling inside. I wonder what they’re up to.  I gently open the door and all their eyes are on me when I enter the room. “Sooooo, who is he and what’s his name?” that was the first words that came from Veronica’s mouth the second I close the door. “Before that, can I at least take a quick shower?” Veronica made a face of disappointment and I just stuck my tongue out at her. “It better be quick.” I hear Xia said before I completely close the door to my bathroom. What will I tell them? That I had s*x for the first time with a stranger that I didn’t even see the face? They will probably laugh at me and how can I say these things in front of Xia? She’s like our baby girl. “You’re beautiful, baby girl.” What? NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. I turn on the shower and let the cold water rinse those memories out of me. “Trust me.” Arrrggghhh. Why do I keep hearing his voice in my head? Oh my god. Did he put some spell on me? Is he really an alien. Oh no, I can’t remember us using any protection. What if I get pregnant? What will Mom and Dad say? What will happen to the people of Genovia? Well, at least my sisters are still there. For someone like me who doesn’t want the throne, I care for the people of Genovia so much. “Uhm, Evie just so you know, the country’s water supply is also used for the farmlands?” I hear Veronica say on the other side of the door. “Did I say it right? I mean, they need water for the plants right? How the f*** should I know I didn’t major in farming.” A small smile appears on my lips as I listen to my sisters’ bickering on the other side of the door. I turn off the shower and wrap a towel around my body. I saw his T-shirt on the floor and I bite my lip as I grab it. I can’t let anyone from our attendants see this. I will launder this shirt later. I open the bathroom door and I was a little surprise to see my sisters on the floor. “Tell us the deets while you’re changing.” Veronica is very persistent when will I ever get used to it? “Deets?” did she made up a word or I just didn’t know what it is. “Deets. Details. Tell us detail about this creature who took your virginity.” Veronica answered. Seriously? I was in the middle of putting somebody lotion on my body and her statement just made me stop. “How did you know it’s my first time?” I was trying to sound confident but it seems like I can’t like to my sisters as much as I can’t lie to myself. “Do you really want me to answer that?” I roll my eyes at her when she lifts her eyebrows up and down. “So what happened, Evie?” this time it was Steff who asks. “This is your fault Veronica.” I slip into a white cotton shirt and shorts after applying all my body necessities and I think I saw Veronica dramatically shock reaction with her hand on her chest. “Me? How is it my fault?” “I wanted to go home right after the race but you said we’d celebrate and you ALL agreed.” Xia and Steff glance at each other innocently. “In the middle of it, all of you disappeared leaving me and Veronica….” I continued. “We were-----“ “I know where were you, what you were doing, and who’s with you.” I see a glimpse of shock and fear in Xia and Steff’s eyes and they can’t look me in the eye.  But of course, I’m kidding; I just have to make them believe I knew. Veronica is laughing at the look on Xia and Steff’s face so I continue, “Veronica dragged me to the dancefloor, and when she started dancing with her EX---- I was left alone.” This time it was Xia and Steff who laugh at Veronica’s reaction when I mention her ex. “You remember him?” “Even when drunk, I can still recognize faces and I can remember face I’ve seen before----“ then I stop in mid-sentence. “I sense a ‘but’ coming.” I hear Steff say. “Yeah, I remember faces I’ve seen before but I don’t think I can remember the face of that man. How can I remember a face I didn’t clearly see?” I start narrating about everything that happened; from the parking lot, to the condo, and to how I escaped. I have already expected a reaction but not this much. Veronica and Steff are laughing their ass out. They are literally rolling in my bed, as for Xia, I can’t tell if she wanted to laugh or cry. I don’t even know the reason for her tears. “I’m so proud of you sissy. At least you made a memory you can never forget before getting married to man who may or may not make you happy.” I scoffed. I think that’s an understatement. I don’t think I can ever marry someone until I find out who he is.
