Love By the Moonlight

Dinner

Entering into the dining room, their was a long ornate wooden table. The legs were carved to look like howling wolves, and the eyes had moon phases carved into it. The chairs matched, having moon phases up the back and wolves for the legs.

Their was a chandelier hanging above the table that was antlers sod some kind with lighting that looked like candles. It gave a daft warm light to the area. Flower vases with silk bouquets of flowers were in the corners on wooden pedestals.

The floor was a dark hardwood with a deep blood red rug with gold trim. The walls were white and with a dark wood siding that reflected the light. Everything was immaculate and screamed old money.

My father sat to the right of the entrance with the Alpha and Luna at the head of the table. I went to sit next to my father and left two open seats to my left.

Facing me were two couples. To the right were what i assumed to be the beta male and female. Both had brown hair and light eyes. The male had strong features and a long beard that matched his hair and bright blue eyes. The female had waist length wavy hair, full and very shiny. She had a round petite face with a button nose and doe eyes that were an emerald green.

it seemed this whole pack had bright-eyed people because just like the betas, the games had bright green and blue eyes. Looking at them a little more, they looked really similar but with swapped features.

Where as the betas had brown hair, the gammas had blonde hair, and the male had emerald eyes and the female blue. We’re they sets of twins? But wait, wasn’t Shane the Gamma? Then who were these people?

The brown haired Beta smiled at me as i looked at them. “I see you have the look that most people have when they look at us. We’re sets of twins. And all four of us are betas.” He said, still smiling.

A pack with four betas? How interesting “How did that come to be?” I asked.

“Well” Answered Alpha Nathan “both twin boys were from a neighboring pack and the beta that we had, had all girls and their beta had all boys, so when we found out that our sets of twins were mates and the other siblings we’re mates to their pack members, we just swapped. And making them all betas here was really just something that worked well for us. We’re an old and large pack. So the more to distribute the load, the better. I assume that we will have two of every position next generation. I myself already have a set of twin boys, and each beta has twins.”

“Just waiting on the next gamma to arrive so that we can have what? Four gammas, you think?” The blonde Beta male said while laughing.

The whole table laughed together when Shane and Brandon walked in. Shane sat a seat away from me, and Brandon sat at the end of the table. They both had a strange look on their face. It kept switching from anger and confusion.

“Well now that you two have joined us, let's start with your magical training. Training with Brandon and the rest of the pack is four am sharp and lasts to six am. Mariam? You said her duties were kitchen and linen from ten am to one pm, yes dear?” Alpha Nathan asked.

“Yes my love. So that leaves the rest of the day for anything that you’d like to do, Marren, as well as your magic training. All of the things that Alpha stated are Monday through Saturday. Sunday is everyone’s days off. And your pay is twenty dollars per hour. You will get your card and bank account information tomorrow, and work will start the following day along with training.” stated Mariam.

Food was served later, and my father went over the days wed be training and the basic layout of my progresssion. I'd train Sunday through Wednesday with my dad an hour after work.

Shane and Brandon kept looking over at me throughout the dinner. Every time they did, I noticed a scowl on their faces. I must not have been the only one who noticed because Alpha Nathan had them stay when we all left.

About an hour after i had left the pack house, i heard a commotion heading to my house. I opened the door and saw the Luna and the two Beta females standing before me poised to knock.

“Hello ladies.” I said as i looked them over. That was when i noticed the alcohol in their hands and smiled. “Please do come in” i said as i stepped aside, holding the door open for them.

“Oh what manners” Joked Mariam as she walked in.

Next was the blonde Beta, and she introduced herself as Beth, and the brunet beta was Kandice. Mariam helped herself to the wine glasses, and they all made their way to the bar where i joined them.

Mariam poured me a glass and then turned to me and said “SO, we have some interesting news to tell YOU” she stated as she thrust the glass into my hands.

“Well do tell.” I said impatiently as i took a seat with them. The girls began to giggle as Mariam looked at them and then to me.

Apparently, after i left, Alpha Nathan wasn’t too pleased about the boys giving me so many harsh looks through the dinner. They said that they couldn’t help it. They had just lost their mates, and for whatever reason, they felt the need to be protective over me, but i wasn’t their mates, and it was pissing them off.

After the boys were excused the alpha unit began to discuss it and that’s when Mariam had told them that i was their mate and that their wolves must still be hurt from the rejection and can’t sense me.

The beats were nodding along to the whole story, Kandice piped up “It looks like you have a hard road here. You never know how long it takes for a wolf to heal after a rejection. It could be weeks or months.”

“Or even years!” Finished Beth “and they were just rejected. What? About a week ago, if that right?” She asked the group. They all nodded in agreement.

“So what are you planning to do?” Mariam asked me. I looked at all of them and just sighed.

“I honestly don’t know” i said as i slumped against the bar, laying across it with the top half of my body. “UGGGGGH” i groaned.

“I mean, they hate me, right? All because they can’t feel the bond. Like that’s my fault. I don’t know. Right now, im just going to get used to this pack, get into my routine, and then figure it out.”

They all nodded at me and agreed. We talked about my magic and my past life at my old pack all night. They chided me on my old actions and laughed at some of the small pranks that i had pulled when i was a teen. And when we were all good and toasted, called their mates to walk them home.

I went up to my room and took a shower, and got into bed. This was going to be rough, to say the least
