A Quiet Morning, A Hidden Truth

861 Words
Chapter 2 A soft and peaceful morning light entered Mirha’s room as she slowly opened her eyes, feeling the calmness of a new day around her. For a few moments, she just lay there quietly, staring at the ceiling without any rush or pressure in her mind. The house outside was already awake, but everything inside her room felt still and gentle. She slowly sat up, brushed her fingers through her hair, and took a deep breath as she adjusted herself to the morning. There was nothing heavy in her thoughts at that moment, just a normal sense of starting another regular day of life. She stood up, walked toward the window, and looked outside for a while before getting ready in a calm and routine way. After getting ready, she stepped out of her room and joined her family for breakfast. The dining table was already set, and her mother was serving food while her father read something quietly. Small morning conversations were happening around her, and Mirha naturally became part of them, eating her breakfast normally and responding to casual talk. She discussed simple things about her day and office routine, showing no unusual behavior. Everything about her morning was calm, balanced, and completely normal, as if nothing different had happened recently in her life. After breakfast, she got ready to leave for the office. Before stepping out, she checked her phone briefly and remembered her friend’s message from the previous night, but she didn’t think too deeply about it. She assumed she would meet her friend in the office and find out everything there. With that simple thought, she left the house and headed toward work, sitting quietly during the drive while looking outside at the moving streets, completely normal and steady in her mood. The office morning started in its usual rhythm, with people arriving, computers turning on, files opening, and conversations slowly filling the space. Mirha also settled into her routine quickly, opening her laptop, checking emails, reviewing her ongoing design project, and starting her tasks with full focus. She was actively working, adjusting her designs, responding to messages, and discussing small updates with colleagues like any normal working day. Nothing about her behavior showed anything unusual, and she maintained her calm, professional routine as always. By mid-morning, while she was working, her friend came over to her desk with a slightly serious expression but also a hint of curiosity. She sat down beside Mirha and lowered her voice a little before speaking. “There is something you should know,” her friend said softly. Mirha looked at her. “What happened?” Her friend paused for a moment, then said, “It came in our w******p office gossip group… Ayaan and that new girl… their engagement picture was shared.” For a brief second, Mirha’s hand stopped moving on the mouse, but her expression remained controlled. Her friend continued, “Someone posted their engagement photo in the group. It’s official now. Everyone has been talking about it since morning.” Mirha slowly looked at her screen again as if nothing had happened. She didn’t ask too many questions, nor did she react strongly. After a short silence, she simply said in a calm tone, “Oh… okay.” Her friend observed her carefully, expecting some reaction, but Mirha didn’t give one. Instead, she returned to her work, opening her file again and continuing her design adjustments. She focused on her tasks, replied to emails, and stayed involved in her work like usual. From outside, everything looked completely normal, but inside her mind, the information stayed quietly in a corner—not painful, not dramatic, just a small awareness that something she had only loosely heard about earlier was now officially real. The rest of the office hours passed in the same routine way. Mirha attended small discussions, completed her design work, helped a colleague fix a minor issue in a file, and stayed engaged with her responsibilities. She didn’t isolate herself, she didn’t change her behavior, and she didn’t show anything unusual to others. She remained professional and steady throughout the day, though her thoughts occasionally drifted for a few seconds before she brought herself back to focus. By evening, she packed her things and left the office. The journey home was quiet and normal, with her looking outside the window at the passing streets. Her mind was calm but slightly occupied, not with strong emotions, but with a soft background awareness that stayed with her throughout the ride. When she reached home, she greeted her mother normally and went to her room to freshen up. After changing her clothes, she lay down on her bed for a while, resting in silence. Her mother came into the room after some time and noticed her quiet state, but didn’t say much. Later, her mother called from outside, asking her to come downstairs for dinner and also mentioning that her father needed to talk to her about something important. Mirha slowly got up, adjusted herself, and prepared to go downstairs, unaware that this simple evening conversation would quietly begin shifting the direction of her life once again.
