The Woman Who Saw Through Him Natal Blake The first thing Natalia Blake did every morning was count. Not money, she counted the things she still had, a half-full bottle of coffee, three clean shirts hanging in her small closet. Enough groceries to survive until the end of the week, a phone that barely worked but still received work emails. It was a habit she had developed over the years. When life give you very little, you learned to appreciate the smallest things. Her apartment was not beautiful. The paint on the walls was fading, and the old kitchen cabinet had one broken door she kept meaning to fix. The place was small, but it was hers. And that mattered. Natalia sat at the edge of her bed, staring at the stack of unpaid bills on the table. She picked them up one by one.Rent, electricity, internet She sighed quietly before placing them back down. “Next month,” she whispered to herself. It was something she always said. Next month would be better.Next month she would earn more. Next month she would finally stop struggling. But deep down, Natalia knew life did not become easier just because someone wished for it. She had learned that a long time ago. At twenty-six years old, Natalia had already experienced enough disappointment to last a lifetime. She had learned how to survive without depending on anyone. No one was coming to save her. So she saved herself. She stood up, getting ready for work. Her clothes were simple, nothing expensive or eye-catching. She carefully ironed her blouse, making sure it looked neat. Natalia believed appearance mattered. Not because she wanted to impress people. But because she refused to let the world know how close she was to breaking. She grabbed her bag and left her apartment. The city was already awake when she stepped outside. People rushed past her, chasing their own dreams. Natalia wondered how many of them were pretending like she was.At work, Natalia was the person everyone depended on.The person who fixed mistakes. who stayed late. who helped even when she was exhausted. “Natalia, can you look at this report?” her coworker, Emma, asked nervously.Natalia looked up from her computer. “What happened?” “I think I messed it up. The numbers don’t match.”Natalia took the file and scanned through it,within seconds, she noticed the problem. “The second page has an outdated figure,” she said. “You used last month’s data.”Emma’s eyes widened. “How did you see that so quickly?” Natalia smiled softly. “I pay attention.” That was the truth.Natalia noticed things.Small things.Things other people ignored,a person’s expression when they were pretending to be happy,a mistake hidden between hundreds of numbers. The sadness someone tried to cover with a smile. Maybe that was why she was always the one person people came to for help. She saw what others missed. But nobody ever seemed to see hers Later that afternoon, Natalia found Emma sitting alone during lunch, looking worried. “What’s wrong?” Natalia asked. Emma hesitated. “I’m short on money for my daughter’s medicine.”Natalia looked at her,she knew that feeling, the helplessness of needing something you could not afford.Without thinking, she opened her wallet and handed Emma the little cash she had left. Emma immediately shook her head. “No, Natalia. I can’t take this.” “Yes, you can.”“But you need it.”Natalia smiled.“I’ll figure it out, and she meant it. She always did. Emma looked at her with guilt. “You’re too kind.” Natalia looked away.Sometimes she wondered if being kind was a gift or a weakness. Because people always needed her,but when she needed someone…There was no one. That evening, just as Natalia was preparing to leave work, her manager called her into his office. She walked in, confused.“You wanted to see me?” Her manager smiled.“I did.” Natalia sat down.“I’m not in trouble, right?”He laughed.“No. Actually, I have good news.” She waited. “There is a business event tomorrow night. A very important one.”Natalia frowned. “Okay…” “Our company has been invited. I want you to represent us.”Her eyes widened. “Me?” “Yes, you.” Natalia almost laughed. There were executives with years of experience People who wore expensive suits and attended events like that regularly. Why her? “I don’t think I’m the right person.”Her manager leaned back.“That’s exactly why you are.” She looked at him. “You notice details. You understand people. That matters.” The words stayed with her.Understanding people,it was something she was good at.Even if no one understood her. When she got home that night, Natalia stood in front of her mirror. Tomorrow she would enter a world she had only seen from a distance. A world of wealth, power, people who never worried about bills. She looked at her reflection. “Do I belong there?” For a moment, she almost believed the answer was no.Then she remembered everything she had survived.Maybe she did not have money, though she did not have a powerful last name, but she had earned every step she had taken. And that had to mean something. Xavier Sinclair Everyone knew his name. That was the problem. Xavier Sinclair entered the event, and immediately the room changed.Conversations lowered, people turned, phones appeared. Everyone wanted a piece of his attention. The billionaire. The CEO. The man who built an empire before most people his age even figured out their lives. That was what they saw. Power. Money. Success. Nobody saw the exhaustion, people didn’t noticed how tired he was, or how he had spent the entire evening surrounded by people and still felt completely alone. “Mr. Sinclair, congratulations on the new acquisition.” “Your company is changing the industry.” “Would you consider investing in—” The voices blended together.Everyone wanted something. A deal. A connection. A favor. Xavier gave them what they expected.a polite smile, professional response, with a cold expression which was easier that way for he know how people respected distance and how they feared weakness. And Xavier Sinclair had spent years making sure nobody saw his weakness. Until he saw her. Natalia Blake. She was standing near the edge of the room, watching everything quietly. Unlike everyone else, she was not trying to get closer to him. She was simply observing, and for some reason, that caught his attention. She looked like she did not belong there, but somehow, she looked more comfortable being herself than anyone else in the room. Natalia expected Xavier Sinclair to be exactly what people described. Cold, arrogant and untouchable. A man who believed the world existed for him.But when she finally saw him closely…She realized she was wrong. The first thing she noticed was his eyes, they did not match his reputation. There was something tired behind them. Something lonely. He looked like a man carrying a weight nobody else could see, everyone around him admired his success.Nobody asked if he was okay somehow, that bothered Natalia, before she realized it, they were standing near each other. “You look like you’re trying to escape your own event.” The words left her mouth before she could stop them. Xavier turned toward her. Most people would have apologized immediately.Natalia didn’t, a small surprise crossed his face. “Excuse me?” She smiled slightly. “I just said you look like you would rather be anywhere else.”For a moment, Xavier simply stared at her, no one has ever talked to him like that, not without fear, or without an agenda. “And you always tell strangers what you think?” “Only when I’m right.” A quiet laugh almost escaped him. Almost. “You know who I am?” “Yes.” “And you’re still speaking to me like this? ”Natalia looked at him.“Should I speak differently?” That question caught him. Nobody has ever asked, everyone changed around him, they all adjusted themselves because of his name. But she didn’t. “You’re not what I expected,” she admitted. and what did you expect? “A billionaire.” His eyebrow lifted.“And I’m not?” She smiled.“You are.”She looked at him carefully.“But you’re also a person.”For some reason, those words affected him. Natalia looked around the room. “Everyone here knows your name, Mr. Sinclair.”Then she looked back at him.“But I don’t think anyone actually knows you.” Silence. For the first time all night, Xavier had nothing to say, because she was right. They continued talking. At first, Xavier expected the conversation to end quickly. But it didn’t. Natalia did not ask about his wealth. She did not ask for opportunities. She did not try to impress him, all she simply did was listened, and somehow that was the most unusual thing about her. “You make it sound easy,” Xavier said. “What?” “Being yourself.”Natalia looked at him. “It isn’t.” That surprised him. She looked away. “People think if you struggle, you should become bitter.” and you didn’t? ”She smiled sadly.“I almost did.” There was something in her voice that made him want to know more. “But?” “But I realized being hurt doesn’t mean I have to hurt everyone else.” Xavier studied her. She was stronger than she looked, and that was dangerous, because he was starting to want something from her. Not money, attention, just her presence. The event slowly came to an end.Natalia picked up her bag, she knew this was where their worlds separated. Tomorrow, Xavier Sinclair would return to being a billionaire, and she would return to her normal life.Their conversation would become a memory, at least that was what she believed. She walked toward the exit. Xavier watched her leave, he did not understand the feeling in his chest. People left him all the time, he was used to it, but this time… He didn’t want her to go, before he could think better of it, he moved. “Natalia.” She stopped.Slowly, she turned around. Xavier Sinclair, the man who controlled every room he entered, suddenly looked uncertain. Like he did not know what he wanted to say, then he finally spoke,“Stay with me.” Natalia froze. The words were simple. But they carried something heavier. She looked at him, trying to understand, was he asking because he wanted company? Because he was lonely? Or because something about tonight had changed? Xavier didn’t know either. He only knew one thing. For the first time in years… Someone had looked at him and seen a person. Not an empire, a fortune or a name just him. And he wasn’t ready to let that feeling disappear.Natalia stood there, caught between two worlds. The safe life she knew… And the dangerous world of Xavier Sinclair. The billionaire everyone admired wasn’t asking for attention. He was asking because, behind all the power and success… He was lonely.
