Ava consulted her monitor. “Does two o’clock still work?” “Yes, and make those standing appointments.” “Will do.” “Thanks, Ava.” Then leaning over the desk, Kat rested her hand lightly on Ava’s. “I look forward to our lunch,” looking into the receptionist’s eyes and smiling. “Me, too, Kat,” said the receptionist, still more than a little confused. After she left the office, Kat went to Bergdorf Goodman to buy some more light-weight dresses. She bought three: two fit-and-flare dresses, one in shimmer lace in nude and gold and a clover print in crepe, and one a short brown crepe shift.
