Chapter 2: The framed Luna

The metallic taste of blood and silver still lingered on my tongue when my eyes fluttered open. The ceiling above me wasn’t the familiar stone of my bedroom; it was bare, sterile, and dimly lit. I was lying on a narrow cot in the pack’s private, hidden medical wing—a place reserved for matters the Alpha wanted kept entirely off the records. A hollow, agonizing emptiness pulsed deep within my lower abdomen. I reached down, my trembling hand pressing against my stomach. Tears hot as liquid fire slipped down my temples. The phantom warmth that had settled there just days ago was gone. The silver potion had done its monstrous work. My baby—the innocent soul I had secretly prayed would be my salvation—was dead. "Don't flatter yourself with tears, Elysia. It was for the best." Raiden’s cold, smooth voice cut through the dark room. He stepped out from the shadows, adjusting the cuffs of his tailored designer suit. He looked every bit the powerful, high-society billionaire Alpha, completely untouched by the murder he had committed just hours before. Beside him stood the pack’s private physician, keeping his eyes locked firmly on the floor. "Sign this," Raiden commanded, tossing a leather-bound folder onto my lap. I stared at the documents through a blur of tears. It was a strict, legal nondisclosure agreement. "You will tell no one about the pregnancy, nor the termination," Raiden rasped, leaning over me until his suffocating, dominant Alpha aura pinned me to the mattress. He smirked, a cruel glint in his eyes. "If a single word of this reaches the ears of the Alpha King’s inspectors, I won't just keep you chained. I will strip you of your legal identity, declare you an un-mated rogue, and throw you into the underground silver mines as a state slave. You will spend the rest of your short, miserable life breathing in toxic dust until your wolf suffocates from the inside out. Do you understand me?" I squeezed my eyes shut, my heart fracturing into a million pieces. He had taken my child, and now he was threatening to erase my very existence and bury me alive in the darkest pits of the continent. "You are a monster," I whispered, my voice completely broken. "I am an Alpha protecting his legacy from a p********e's taint," he replied coldly. He snatched the folder back after forcing my thumb onto the ink pad for a biometric seal. Without another word, he turned on his heel and walked out, the heavy metal door clicking shut behind him. I curled into a ball on the tight cot, clutching a piece of the stained bedding against my chest. “I will make you pay!” I vowed to the empty room, the sorrow in my chest hardening into something sharp and dangerous. I swear to the Moon Goddess, Raiden, I will make you bleed for the life you took. The heavy click of the door unlocking snapped me out of my grief. I braced myself, expecting Raiden to return, but instead, a familiar, sickening scent filled the air. Zaria, my vile stepsister stepped into the room, a designer handbag slung over her arm and a triumphant, malicious smirk plastered across her face. "Oh, look at you," Zaria purred, walking over to the bed and looking down at me as if I were a stray dog on the street. "The tragic, weeping widow. Raiden told me what happened. Honestly, Elysia, did you really think he’d let a dirty, weak omega bastard inherit a single cent of his empire? I am the one who will give him his true heirs." Hearing her snide comments instantly brought back the bitter memories of our childhood. Because my mother was a common p********e, my father had always viewed me as a shameful stain on his reputation. When he finally brought me into his home as an illegitimate child, his legal wife and her daughter, Zaria, made sure I paid for it every single day. I was treated worse than a stray servant, constantly reminded that my blood was filthy. My father completely ignored their cruelty, and my only hope of escape had been the mate bond the Moon Goddess gave me with Raiden. But instead of a fairy tale, my bond became a prison. And Zaria had followed right into my new life, determined to completely ruin the low-born sister she had always despised and take my place by Raiden's side. I glared at her, my nails digging into the palms of my hands. "Get out." "Oh, I’m leaving soon. But first, I brought you a little parting gift," Zaria giggled. She reached into her luxury handbag and pulled out a heavy, intricately carved obsidian box that radiated a faint, dark purple glow. My breath hitched. Even as a low-level omega, I recognized it instantly. It was the Luna’s Tears, a priceless, sacred royal artifact belonging to the Supreme Alpha King’s lineage, loaned to our pack centuries ago for safekeeping. Touching it without royal blood was a capital offense. "What are you doing with that?" I gasped, trying to push myself up, but my body was too weak, my muscles screaming in protest. "Securing my future," Zaria whispered. With a twisted smile, she knelt down by the corner of the room, pried loose a loose wooden floorboard beneath the medical cabinets, and shoved the glowing box deep into the shadows. She slotted the board back into place, completely concealing it. She stood up, dusting off her hands, her eyes glinting with pure evil. "Enjoy your rest, sister. Tomorrow is going to be a very big day for you." True to her word, dawn had barely broken when the peace of the medical wing was shattered. The heavy metal door was violently thrown open, slamming against the stone wall. A squad of elite Lycan Enforcers, clad in tactical gear and radiating hostile warrior auras, stormed into the room. Behind them walked Raiden, his expression a perfect, theatrical mask of utter shock and deep, agonizing betrayal. "Search everything!" Raiden roared to the guards, his voice booming through the corridor. "The vault was breached last night! Leave no stone unturned!" I scrambled backward on the cot, my heart leaping into my throat as the enforcers began tearing the room apart, ripping the cabinets from the walls and throwing my medical sheets to the floor. Within seconds, one of the enforcers stopped by the corner of the room. He knelt down, jammed his tactical knife into the floorboard, and pulled it up. He reached inside and pulled out the glowing obsidian box. "Alpha! We found it," the enforcer shouted, holding the artifact aloft. "The Luna’s Tears." The room went dead silent. The guards all turned to look at me, their eyes filled with absolute disgust. Raiden stepped forward, looking down at me with a flawless display of heartbroken rage. "Elysia... how could you?" he bellowed, his voice carrying out into the hallway where the pack elders had already gathered to watch the commotion. "I took you into my home! I honored you as my mate despite your filthy background! And you repay me by spying for the rogues and stealing from the Royal Lineage?!" "I didn't do it!" I screamed, pointing a trembling finger at Zaria, who was standing in the doorway, pretending to gasp in horror. "She put it there! She framed me! Raiden, you know I didn't do this!" "Silence, traitor!" Raiden snarled, stepping back to let the enforcers approach. "I played the fool for your beauty long enough. Your low-born blood has finally shown its true colors." The pack elders in the hallway began whispering furiously, nodding in agreement. To them, the p********e's daughter had finally shown her rotten nature. Two massive enforcers grabbed my arms, hauling me off the cot. The heavy, cold iron chains were violently slapped back onto my raw, unhealed wrists. I staggered, my weak legs barely able to support my weight as they dragged me out of the room. Raiden watched me go, a dark, victorious glint in eyes that no one else could see. He leaned in close as I passed him, his voice dropping to a deadly, venomous whisper meant for my ears alone. "I told you I’d make you face the wrath of the Alpha King, Elysia. Since you wouldn't break and reject me, his executioner will handle you for me." He pulled away, raising his voice for the entire pack to hear. "Throw her into the silver-caged transport vehicle! We are taking this traitor straight to the Capital. Let the Supreme Alpha King Alaric pass the death sentence himself!"
