Josiah
Using my magical abilities was like second nature to me and I couldn’t quite figure out what had gone wrong. Amani was clearly uncomfortable, and I wasn’t sure how to make things better.
“It freaked you out, didn’t it?” I asked carefully. Amani didn’t answer as she stared blankly at the TV. “Amani?”
“I guess,” she then muttered, and I frowned as I leaned forward and switched off the TV before I set down the remote.
“One thing you have to understand is that magic was the beginning of everything for me,” I explained. “When I was…locked away…I was bounded so I wasn’t able to do anything. No magic, no shifting, and no Joe,”
“No Joe?” she asked in surprised horror and I nodded sadly.
“I was truly alone…so when I was released, not only did I have what felt like a lifetime of catching up to do with Joe, but I was heavily reliant on my magical abilities,”
“What do you mean? Where had Joe gone?” she was confused, and I realized I needed to back up a bit.
“Ok, so while I was bounded, Joe was still there but our connection was blocked. So, yeah, it was like two halves reuniting,”
“And why did you have to rely on your magic?” Amani asked. Her attention was completely focused on me now and I shifted uncomfortably in my seat. This stuff wasn’t easy to talk about, but I knew I had to do it.
“I didn’t know how to do anything,” I admitted softly. “I didn’t know how to cook, how to clean properly, or even how to use the kitchen,” I glanced past her at the immaculate kitchen and sighed. “It simply just became easier to rely on my magic to get things done,” Amani didn’t say anything at first and while I was tempted to push her, I didn’t. I merely leaned back and watched her closely.
“What about the stuff you made the other day?” she then asked, and I knew what she was asking me.
“I had been serious when I said Sierna had helped me and when I say she helped me, I was more like her little assistant,” I chuckled at the memory. “She ordered me around and I watched,” I should have felt embarrassed to be admitting such a thing, but it was the truth and I had already promised myself I would never lie to my mate.
“Huh,” she looked stumped, and I frowned. “I mean, there is nothing wrong with getting help,” she hurriedly added, and I relaxed slightly. “But…I mean…you are still relying on your magic…why don’t you just learn?” she was curious now and this time I was embarrassed. How could I possibly tell my mate that I was lazy? “Is it hard to learn?” Amani questioned as she looked around the living area. The place was spotless, but that wasn’t because I had slaved away making sure it was clean. No, a simple snap of my fingers did all the work. I blushed as I slowly hung my head in shame. “Josiah,” she moaned out and I sighed.
“I know,” I whispered. “I know I should learn but…asking Sierna for help was easy because she just assumed I hadn’t made those types of things before…which is true. As for everything else…yeah,”
“You have to learn, and I get that you don’t want to ask anyone for help, but I can help you,” her suggested offer made me smile. It was time that I started to learn how to do things, but then a sudden idea came to me.
“I’ll learn if you let me teach you some magic,” I bargained. Amani frowned, clearly confused, and I chuckled. “No, you aren’t a witch, but every single supernatural being has the ability to use basic magic,”
“Really? Like what?” she asked curiously.
“Like little tricks,” I said casually, as I didn’t want to give too much away. I wanted this to be exciting for her. “How about when you come over tomorrow, you can teach me something, and then I can teach you something?”
“Ok,” she agreed, and I relaxed even more. I had been honest the other day with Gavin. I would do anything to make sure my mate was happy, and Amani’s happiness was my top priority.
“Do you still want to leave?” I then asked softly, and she smiled as she leaned in and kissed my cheek.
“I don’t want to leave, but I do have a meeting to prepare for,” she said as she stood up. I then remembered that she had told me about this upcoming meeting, and I felt her excitement.
“It will be great,” I said with confidence, and Amani looked rather hopeful. I didn’t think she could fail, but I also understood that her being an omega made her doubt herself. Just that thought alone upset me and Joe. I pushed it aside as I stood up and gathered her in my arms. I loved holding her. I loved being able to be affectionate with someone who was mine. I had watched Grayson and Sierna as a couple as well as Mato and Zack. I was over the moon that I had someone to call mine and I wanted to make sure Amani knew exactly how I felt. All. The. Time.
“I’ll stop by after my meeting,” she promised when she finally stepped out of my embrace. I pressed my lips against hers in a soft kiss before I followed her to the door. I leaned against the door frame as I watched her get into her car. She waved at me before she started the car and reversed out before she headed down the driveway. I watched the car get smaller and smaller until I couldn’t see her anymore before I headed back inside. I looked around my living space and sighed. I truly had become lazy, but that was about to change. With that thought in mind, I got ready for bed.
