it's been two weeks, and so far, I haven't seen the alphas. even though I can't get them out of my mind.
Lindie has been helping me find cheap or free stuff for my apartment. it is now liveable even if completely mismatched.
my living room now has a dirty white couch that smells like a bunch of dogs. it's a lot less than it was, but i have washed it a few times. but it is better than the first free one we found that smelled like cigarettes and things I don't want to think about. a bunch of dogs I can live with.
A little coffee table in black and a few broken bar chairs for the lip of the kitchen so I could eat.
we are still looking for a bedframe, but at least I have a mattress now.
I haven't bothered with hangers, but my clothes are folded neatly in stacks in the closet.
it looks like someone lives here, at least. I go to the gym every day, and when a trainer calls in sick, i get to teach that class. on my way in, I grab a little chocolate from that chocolate shop, I will probably make an effort to say goodbye to when I leave.
I like this life here. I hope time doesn't fly by. Or maybe I could ask for an extension of a few months.
I walked into the gym, and Lindie was staring at her phone.
"What's up, Lindie?"
"Breaking up with Zack. he's taking it pretty hard. I mean, he's fun, but he's not a werewolf." she took a deep breath and let it our slowly. Was she crying?
"You guys have been together a while, right?"
"Nine months .."
it looks like she really didn't want to talk about it. "Just too many secrets, you know? I thought it would be best before we hit that one year marker... and I know there are more secrets than just mine. you'd think he was in a colt or something stupid." she half laughed, "it's better this way."
from the way she was looking at her phone, I think she was trying to convince herself that more than me.
I patted her on the back and went to the employee locker room.
the locker room has the same purple and black design that the rest of the gym does. with one row of lockers for employees, a black metal bench infrom of the lockers. a table and chairs for us to eat at, and an office for Coach. That currently had the door shut, and I could hear the mermer of male voices. He must have some kind of soundproofing.
I went to my locker to put my bag away as I hung up the bag on the hooks. The office door opened, and a familiar scent hit my noise, and I stiffened.
I turned around, and we locked eyes. I saw him take a deep breath as if drawing in my smell. the Alpha with the goatee that thought I was amusing. he was wearing a dark grey t-shirt that hugged his arms and his upper chest. his blue jeans also hugged his legs like they were skinny jeans, but as he started walking towards me, i knew he had full movement if he needed it. now that i see him in the light, his hands were stained dark. like he works on cars, or maybe he was just changing his oil today. i laughed a little at that, an alpha doing something other than barking orders, and f*cking bimbos.
He gave me a side smile that reached his eyes.
he mouthed, "found you."
I glared at him and stuck my tongue out at him like a child.
That made him laugh fully. He walked closer to me than what was needed to, to get to the door.
"Don't make promises you don't intend to keep." he whispered as he walked by. My heart jumped, and I felt my checks go red.
Coach walked out as the Alpha passed by me and gave me an odd look when my checks turned red.
With a slight teasing smile in his face, "Did you stick your tongue out to the Alpha like a child?"
My eyes widened, "Lindie, is an emotional wreck out there."
Yep, subtle is my middle name.
he gave me a sideways look and walked out the door.
I followed him out and stayed in the background while he talked to her. She nodded and walked out the door.
he walked back to me, "Well, do you want to make some extra cash tonight?"
I smiled a knowing smile, "You got a fight tonight?"
"Lindie was supposed to fight, but as you can see, that's not happening. it's not too late to change the lineup. what do you say, new kid?"
with a big smile, "Sign me up, coach!"
we spent the day training for tonight's fight. Since I'm new here, he walked me through the lineup and had me watch videos of who was all fighting. So I would know what to expect just in case there was another switch up.
then he took me to the mats so I could warm up my muscles and work on some blocking and switch ups.
when I walked into my apartment main hall. I caught the scent of the Alpha from earlier. It was older, at least a few hours old.
sh*t he figured out where I live, I calmly walked through the main hall pretending my heart wasn't raising a million miles an hour.
when the office manager walked out. she was a woman probably in her mid forties, with her black hair in a tight bun on her head. her three piece tan and blue business suit fit her perfectly. she gave me a big smile, "Maggie, right? 450?"
"Yes?" I stopped dead in my tracks, my heart in my chest.
she got a big smile on her face, "I got something for you."
I nervously followed her to the office, where she picked up a small bouquet of pink and orange lilies and a box of chocolates from the imagination chocolate store that I love so much.
my eyes about fell out of my head, and my heart did a double flip.
"A handsome gentleman left these for you." she said with a slight smile and a twinkle in her eyes.
"Thank you," I said while smelling the lilies.
I turned and went upstairs. I could smell him around my door. I unlocked it, and there was a card on the floor under the door.
I picked it up and locked the door.
I don't have a vase for flowers. but I have a big cup from some pizza place that I got for free that should be able to put the lilies in.
I set the lilies on my bar ledge in the kitchen and the living room, so I would them when I got home tonight.
I opened the letter,
Sorry I missed you, I think you and I should have a date and a proper introduction. I will pick you up tomorrow at 8 pm.
P.S. Enjoy the chocolates. The lovely ladies helped pick them out based on the chocolate oranges you seem to always get there.
- Alpha Josiah
his name is Josiah. I smiled rolling that around in my mind. maybe if I have a little fun with him I'll be able to get him off my mind.
I smiled at the possibility that date could bring.
with that thought in my head I packed my bag for tonight's fight, and smelled the flowers as I walked out the door.
