chapter 12

887 Words
I spent the night in the lobby of the police station. there wasn't much they could do since I refused to place an official report. they all looked at me with pity. They've seen this a million times, and I think some of them are expecting me to show up in the morge soon. like most domestic abuse vitums. I might show up in a morge soon. but I hope it's not here. Some of the female officers brought me food and coffee, trying to get the story out of me what happened and what started the fight. do i have family they should call. and also telling me where the closest women's shelter is. after a few hours, they quite trying and left me alone. When the sun was starting to rise, I made my way out of the police station and saw Coach sitting on the tail gate of his Ford F150 truck. relaxing like it was the most comfortable spot he had ever sat. He saw me and slid off and closed the tail gate, "I was wondering how long you were going to be in there." curously, i walked up to him, "Why are you here?" he shrugged, "They asked me to pick you up. Figured it would be better than them showing up since you left with the police over your fight last night." "Oh. I can take the bus." "It's just a ride to your apartment. No strings. They won't even be there. They respect your wishes to leave." He said while walking to the passenger side door and opening it for me. I walked over to the open door and sat down in the seat, buckling my belt and resting my head on the window. he got in the truck and started it. when he pulled out of the parking lot, he started talking again. "They told me all about your fight last night." When I didn't say anything, he continued, "About how desperately you want to leave town. and it seems like you're scared of someone, but you wouldn't say who." I sat further down, he's fishing for what I didn't tell them. "Now, I told them that you were one of the best fighters I've seen in a while. there is no way you are scared of someone like that. they must be thinking too much about what you said. or you might be just saying stuff so they will leave you alone. having two mates can be scary. that maybe they should let you go and see if you come back once you stop fighting your bond." he took a turn, I don't think this is the way back to my apartment. but I don't fully remember the way from the police station, maybe it is. "But werewolves are so possessive about their Mates, especially Alphas. Man, I could tell you some stories. So I convinced them to give you some space. which was really hard to do. they felt your panic and don't want to let you out of their sight. I mean, if you really didn't want them, you wouldn't have dropped your shield, and let us know how powerful you really are." This is definitely not the way to my apartment, I sat up and started looking around. Why are we getting on the highway. "Coach? where.." something stung me in the arm, and the world started getting a little blurry. wolfsbane, it has to be wolfsbane. I looked at Coach. "Then I got to thinking," he smiled at me. "I remembered this story about a girl, I guess she would be about your age now. she was from this territory of werewolves. no humans around, and the alpha is a real piece of work. He likes to take girls on their eightteenth birthday and have his way with them. now unbeknown to the town. though I'm sure it's known, but no one talks about it. but when the alpha notices, he's got a child, that child disappears. now if they are boys. he just kills them off, we know that because we've been covering up those bodys from humans for centuries. He can't have anyone trying to take his spot, you know, as alpha. but girls... girls.. he sells them off for whatever he fancies at the time. Generally, it's to other alphas who have a darker side to them. So he can keep his little territory to himself. but this one girl got away on the night before her eightteenth birthday. you know he's been looking for ten years. she must be really smart to be able to avoid being captured. probably moves around a lot, maybe she only stays places for Oh, let's say, six months at a time. so she never has to join a new pack." The world is almost gone, I've got to stay awake, and I have to fight it. My wolf starts howling in my head, then escapes out my thoat. She's fighting to push out the poison. I start to sweat, I must stay awake, I must fight this. I drop my cloak of power to put more energy into fighting to stay awake. "Oh, no. you. don't." he yells over my howl. I feel a hard punch in the face, and everything goes black.
