Daisy's POV
"Stella, my wolf, you must have had a bad day. Can you tell me about it?" My wolf cried again, and she always whimpered in the night. As for a reason, I didn't understand. But at such a time, I always got sad somehow.
Stella ignored me and continued to cry.
I was a little angry, "You are always like this. What is on your mind that you can't share with me?"
Stella said: "You won't understand even if I tell you, because ..."
"Daisy! Get up! Don't be lazy. Rise and Shine!" a rush of footsteps came to my room. Without looking, I knew it was Amanda. Amanda was a senior maid in Grey Pack. Her job was probably to push the lower-level maids to work. Thanks to her, there were a bunch of things to report to God during nightly prayer.
She went to the window and opened the curtain. The sunlight illuminated my eyes, and I subconsciously covered my eyes with my hands.
So it was just a dream. I dreamed of Stella again, my wolf, a wolf only appeared in my dreams. Others' wolves appeared at the latest when they were 18, while my wolf had not yet appeared even in my 20th year. No, to be specific, she appeared 13 years ago, when I was 7, in my dream. From then on, I had that dream constantly.
"Get up now! If you're not up in two minutes, I'll throw you in a cell with those stupid chickens!" The shrill voice pierced into my ears, and I came utterly awake.
"Got it, Amanda, it's only 6:00. Don't we begin working at 6:30?" I glared at Amanda. Annoying! Stella was about to tell me why she was crying in the dream, but Amanda ruined it.
"I beg your pardon?" She came over and grabbed my hair, "The army from the battlefield came back today. King Rob prepared a sumptuous feast for them, so we're going to be busy from now until afternoon."
"What? The army came back? My grandma came back! Where are they now?" I caught the point in Amanda's words. My grandma came back!
"No one cares about your stupid grandma. Listen, this feast is significant, and if you dare screw it up, I will kick you out of Grey Pack and make you stay with those smelly rogues!"
Amanda cursed, leaving my room. I ran to the window and looked out. Amanda's words "The army from the battlefield came back today" couldn't leave my mind.
Thirteen years ago, Brown Pack was invading our pack. Warriors accompanied by the sad trumpet left our pack for an expedition on a snowy day to alleviate the war. As the senior maid in Grey pack, my grandma went with them to cook. I ran out in the procession to look for my grandma and say goodbye to her, but the guards stopped me.
I shouted at the crowd, "Grandma! I'll behave and wait for you! I'll sing the song you taught me for you when you return!" No one responded to me, but I knew that my grandma heard me, and she must be somewhere saying goodbye as well.
I quickly changed my clothes and ran downstairs, running to every crowd. Maybe my grandma was chatting with her old buddy at this time.
At the entrance to the ballroom, I bumped into Margaret.
"Hey, where are you going?" Margaret asked me as she took my hand.
"My grandma is back!" I said to her excitedly.
"Really?" I could feel her hands trembling, "Great, I'll go with you for her!"
Margret was the princess in Grey Pack, the third daughter of Alpha King, and most importantly, she was my friend, my only friend. We were never separated from our childhood. She took me by the hands and went around asking about my grandma.
Amanda's obnoxious voice came through the side door of the banquet hall. Oh, she's "lecturing" a few maids in her arrogant manner.
We walked past them, and Amanda picked up the wine in a maid’s tray and poured it on my dress.
"What are you doing?" I shouted at Amanda, who sneered.
"What? Do you think you can be lazy because you have the princess to back you up? Come and prepare today's luncheon!" she said, placing a plate with cookies in my hands.
"Amanda, please apologize to Daisy." Margaret grabbed my arm without leaving.
"You think you can demand me just because you're a princess? Dream on you. No one in Grey Pack respects a cursed princess," Amanda said contemptuously, not even looking at Margaret.
As you can see, Margaret was a princess, the daughter of the Alpha King, but she didn't have any status. The only difference between us was that Margaret slept on a silk mattress while I slept on a hard wooden bed in the attic.
Margaret's mother died after giving birth to her. Alpha King was very sad about Luna's departure and felt that this princess was cursed. Besides, like me, Margaret was 20 years old, and the wolf hadn't appeared yet, so everyone thought she was a princess who brought bad luck. The result was that everyone came to bully Margaret to please the king.
"You ..." Margaret's words were not finished when the music rang out in the hall.
Rob, the Alpha King of Grey Pack, with his long beard, sat solemnly in his chair as he slowly raised his left hand, signaling the start of the party.
As the warriors marched down the aisle, I looked anxiously at the stage to see if there was any sign of my grandma. I watched the welcome ceremony absent-mindedly—a knight received a medal, a lord was given a marriage, and a prince was awarded land... all of which I ignored. But I keenly caught a message—grandma may still be on the battlefield. Lord Lambert said that this time only part of the soldiers returned. Since the situation of the war was very unpromising, Lord Lambert brought back some soldiers to discuss a strategy with the king this time.
"Peacemaking? No way!" Rob was furious and slapped his hands very loudly on the armrests of his chair. I could even feel the air around him shaking. He was very dissatisfied with Lord Lambert's proposal.
"Your majesty," Lambert knelt with a sword in his right hand, "this is the only way. The war has lasted for 13 years, and I'm afraid Brown Pack will be swallowed by Grey Pack. "
Rob shook his head, sighed lowly, and kept tapping his index and middle fingers on the arm of his chair. "I won't marry my daughter to a man in that pack!"
Rob, of course, knew that no princess was willing to go to the marriage. This marriage meant getting far away from home. And they didn't even know what kind of person the future husband was.
No one dared to speak, and the air was quiet. Even the sound of a dropping pin could be heard.
"Let me go for the marriage and make peace." It was Margaret's voice, and she stepped forward.
Everyone looked at her in surprise ...
"Are you crazy?"
Margaret turned to me and said, "It's alright."
"I would go and marry Brown Pack's Alpha King for the safety of Grey Pack." Margaret looked firmly at Rob. There was something in Rob's eyes that was hard to put into words... Was it guilt? I didn't understand, and what I didn't understand even more was why Margaret would make such a decision.
"I want to be a queen, a real queen. In Grey Pack, I am not valued, and even those maids can bully me. I can’t put up with such a life any longer. Daisy, will you go with me?" After the luncheon, Margaret held my hand and said to me. In her eyes, I saw the light.
Maybe with a change of environment, we could start our life over.
I lowered my head and stared at both of our shoes. Grey Pack was a place where I grew up. Though I didn’t live a colorful life in here, I still had a castle named hope, where my grandma was waiting for me. But now, everything was broken. My grandma didn’t come back because of war. War, a word which I hated most.
"Yes. I would go to Brown Pack to you."
I knew that something new was happening at this moment.
