Kayla’s POV The morning light streamed through the tall windows of the East wing, but the golden glow brought no comfort. Sarah and I sat side by side on the soft velvet sofa in her guest room. Her small hands were cold as ice, holding mine tightly. We had spent the whole night talking in low voices, making plans, grieving over our broken lives, and feeling the heavy fear of the two tiny lives growing inside us. “Do you really think he’ll drop the charges?” Sarah asked softly, her tired eyes searching my face for an answer. “I don’t know, Sarah,” I admitted honestly, gently squeezing her fingers. “Lucien doesn’t give anything away without asking for twice as much in return.” CLICK. The double doors of the suite opened. Two tall security guards stepped aside, making way for Lucien.
