Days had passed since Rodrigo’s party, and the energy around campus had shifted. Exams week was fast approaching, and for the hospitality students, it wasn’t just about grades—it was about their futures. These exams would determine which hotels they’d be assigned to for their training period, a pivotal step in their careers. The weight of it all hung in the air, but Emily and Hannah tried to keep their nerves in check.
During management lecture, Emily’s mind wandered back to the party and the mysterious guy she’d seen Hannah talking to. Curiosity got the better of her.
Leaning closer to Hannah, she whispered, “Hey, you never told me who that guy was—the one you were with at the party the other day.”
Hannah glanced at her, momentarily distracted from the teacher’s droning voice. “Oh, that was Edward,” she said with a faint smile. “He’s an old friend of mine. Honestly, I never expected to see him again. I was completely shocked when I saw him there.” She paused for a moment. “What a weird twist of fate.”
Emily’s interest piqued further. “So, you’ve known him for a long time? How come you two didn’t stay in touch?”
Hannah sighed softly. “He disappeared,” she said, her voice tinged with a mix of frustration and lingering fondness. “I don’t know why. We were close, and then one day, he was just... gone.” She shook her head, a faint smile creeping back. “But he promised to explain everything. I’m still waiting for that conversation.”
Emily opened her mouth to press further, but before she could speak, their teacher’s voice cut sharply through the room.
“To anyone who’s talking, be quiet!”
Both girls immediately straightened in their seats, exchanging guilty glances before returning their focus to the front of the class. The teacher resumed the lecture, droning on about management strategies and operational workflows, but Emily couldn’t help sneaking a glance at Hannah. She seemed lost in thought, her mind clearly far from the classroom.
Though Emily was curious about the story behind Edward, she decided to let it go—for now. There were bigger things to worry about, like exams and the looming pressure of training placements. But in the back of her mind, she couldn’t shake the feeling that Edward was more than just a passing figure in Hannah’s life. Whatever story lay between them, it felt far from over.
